Yes, but not a highly overrated or underrated one. Did someone keep track of those back then? I'm young for that one. Not nearly like we do today, but there were guys like Merlin WIlson and Jonathan Smith in JT's first recruiting class who were thought of more highly. So again, he wasn't hyped, just an average, expected to be decent, recruit.

Wow, a Bobby Winston reference. Solid player. Could hit the side of a barn with a beach ball, but a glue type cat.

Brotha... is there a book somewhere called the "1000 'Greatest' Questions of all Time" Or are you trying out material to write one?!?!?! I will say this for you, you are stirring up the pot and getting some volume posting happening on the board in mid-July!

I think there is an option in very recent Hoya history for the overrated category.
Hey, I love him and wanted him to do well. I still do, I suppose. And there is definitely talent there. But the span of his career certainly didn't match up to the hype with which it began. (at least in this forum)
Underrated? How about Michael Jackson.

In my mind MJ is in the top 4 point guards in Hoya History.... ahead of Jwall. good call. outside of AI and Floyd, g'town PG's don't get a lot of love.

what about Anthony Perry for overrated? I know he was injured and everything else, but when I started at Georgetown, he was supposed to be THE GUY. He was never even close to that.

George Butler ... Single handedly carried team against Illinois in '94 NCAA's to a victory after 2 year absence from tournament. just to clarify: we missed the tournament in 93 (nit finals loss by 1 to minnesota on a last second miss by Kevin "shorty" Millen) so only a one year absence. Butler was awesome and remains underated i agree, incredibly hard worker on his game and on the court, too bad he couldnt devote any of that energy to the classrom. duane "the goat" spencer was a mcd AA and aside from getting ejected from the aforementioned NIT finals game for throwing a punch he did nothing before transfering for family issues (to be closer to his newborn child as i remember) he was hugely overated and would have gotten less and less time if he had stayed, it was a blessing he left, who knows if we would have had a scholarship left for jerome williams if we still had spencer, someone would have been missing from the 95 & 96 squads as a result.

My 2 cents - which is an overinflated value for any of my basketball opinions:
Over: Anthony Perry Under: Charles Smith

I think O could be both under and overrated. He was the #1 recruit in the country, and played like it his first two years, but Iverson changed everything. Still, he was a pretty good player all four years - not the stiff some people think of him as (Slothella?).

I think DFW said it best. Really O was what he was.

Othella's issue was that he was a tremendous basketball player but only average athletically, playing at a school that had become legendary for athletic big men.
