Can I get a boo Bush thing going? I would love it if the Nats fans boo him tomorrow night when he goes to throw out the first pitch. I think Cropp, Schwartz, and many other council members will probably hear the boo birds as well.

Booing Cropp is one thing, b/c she almost f'ed up the Nats move, but booing Bush is mixing politics into baseball and that can only lead to bad things. He hasn't done anything wrong to the Nats. In fact, he's following in the grand tradition of having the Pres. throw out the first pitch for Washington's team. So don't mix politics and baseball. Oh, and boo the hell out of Cropp for me. If she'd screwed this move up....

I'll boo Crop. I wish the other opponents were coming as well, but apparently they have "scheduling conflicts."
There's no reason to boo Bush. This is about baseball, not politics.

He hasn't done anything wrong to the Nats. Hmmm....wasn't he part-owner of the Texas Rangers in the mid-80s? Sure, he didn't move the team, but where did the Texas Rangers come from originally? Oh, and yes, I haven't forgotten that your beloved Twins are the original stolen product...making you even worse than the Rangers.

This is about baseball, not politics. George Will crossed the line long ago, it's all fair game. Hell, Kerry got booed in Fenway.

Right, but wasn't that b/c Kerry's favorite player on the Sox was Manny Ortiz?? You are correct sir. How embarassing. Of course, to be fair to Mr. Kerry, his snafu spurred the most enjoyable name game in Boston...what to call the dominican duo?

I agree that Bush has done nothing to the nats, but he is so much fun to harass. I had so much fun at the inauguration booing him and harassing those with W hats & cowboy boots that I actually have no choice but to mix politics & baseball.
Cropp will be booed by me as well. I only wish the mayor for life would be there so I could boo the kind of all crack heads.

I just don't think it's the proper place at a baseball game, unless the booing is specifically baseball related, as it is with Cropp.

Okay, how about this: boo him if he throws a ball. If it goes in the dirt I will. I'll be there: section 543. Going to be awesome!

The game was awesome. I was up in section 543, and even there, I thought the view was good. For $7, I don't think you can beat it.
The pregame ceremonies were great, and the atmosphere was electric. The crowd seemed pretty knowledgeable and was ready to root for the Nats (it wasn't just a polite atmosphere, like you might expect at a new baseball city). Lots of booing the opposition. Crowd also booed Cropp and Selig. Cheered Williams, and a mostly positive (yet mixed) reaction for the President. Castilla almost hit for the cycle, except for being HBP when all he needed was a single.
All in all, a great start. I'm looking forward to many more Nats games.

And, as of today, they're in first place! (I know, I know-- enjoy it while it lasts) ;D
In fact... This marks the first time that a team from Washington ended a day in sole possession of first place since October 1, 1933, when the Senators finished off the regular season en route to the American League pennant. (Source: Elias Sports Bureau)

I went last night- I am a Red Sox fan by birth, but excited about the Nats and picked up a 20 game plan with a friend.
The game itself was terriffic and I think my season ticket investment was one of the best ways possible to spend $300, but there was a lot of not-ready-for-primetime stuff last night. My friend and I got off the Metro at 6:30 and did not reach our seats until the top of the second. I recognize that there was extra security in place for the President, but there was no organization outside of the stadium. My ticket did not say which gate to enter, there was no one outside to direct people, no signs indicating where to go, and only about 8 metal detectors at each entrance, which means 50,000 had to enter through probably 50 points of entry, with lines forming then disintegrating and no one policing that either.
Inside, the concession stands could not keep cold beer in stock and ran out of hot dogs in the 4th innning. There were plenty of beer vendors in the stands, but they were overwhelmed and never ventured above the 5th row in the 500 level- fine for me in the 3rd row except that it meant a constant stream of people coming down from the 20th row impeding my view. There were no food vendors at all in the stands- not even peanuts. The scoreboards were small and difficult to read, and between innings there was no place that showed the score and inning of the game. No pitch count board, which was of interest with Hernandez tiring as he went for the 1-hitter. I did not see an out of town score until the 8th inning.
On the way out, it took at least 30 minutes just to exit the stadium, due in part to people trying to get commemorative medallions being handed out at the exits- of course not nearly enough people were doing that job, creating incredible bottlenecks, and suffice to say I did not get one. The line for the Metro was so daunting by the time we got there that we decided to walk to Union Station 17 blocks away instead, and so a game that was over at 9:45 5 miles from my apartment got me home at 11:30.
But the experience of the game was tremendous. We were between 1st base and the foul pole, section 508, 3 rows up from the interior concourse, so the traffic in front of me did not really obstruct the view but I saw 15 different people I know as they walked by. Everyone was happy to be there. Hernandez and Castilla provided the excitement and people were all into the game even if they did not know the players. The crowd was more diverse than Fenway, but not as diverse as you would hope for in DC- it still felt like most of the crowd came from Woodley Park, Bethesda, and Reston. My permanent seats are in section 403- closer to the foul pole, still on the field of play, but below the concourse so no obstructions of any kind. I am going again on Saturday and hoping for less security and a somewhat smaller crowd to alleviate some of the problems we encountered. We are trying to get there for batting practice to see if my season ticket partner can track down Matt Kata, the Dbacks utility guy who was her friend in high school.

After my 4th game at RFK, I can say that the place is okay. I wouldn't be happy if they were going to play there forever, but for 4 years or so it should be fine.
The staff there is great. I had a guy come up to my group and ask how things were with the sound level and scoreboards around the stadium. I asked for more batter info on the side scoreboards since I can't see the main board (my seats are dead centerfield upper deck). The guy seemed receptive, so I'll take all the credit if it happens. I think they realize they have to be receptive to the fans-- since the stadium is not exactly a gem. It is refreshing for things like that to happen.
The games are fun, and a lot of the snags seemed to have been fixed. It's a work in progress, but for $7 a game, I can't complain that much.

I know we are all disappointed about the way Major League Baseball and that PIECE OF GARBAGE Peter Angelos are SCREWING us from watching the Nationals on television. But one thing we should be happy about is that the ORIOLES ATTENDANCE IS NOT IMPROVING!!! They recently had an 8-game winning streak and still had poor crowds at home. Hopefully, they'll get swept by the Bluejays today.
On Monday, I couldn't believe someone on the John Thompson show on WASHINGTON D.C.'S SPORTSTALK STATION was actually claiming that the Nationals are taking fans away from the Orioles and it isn't fair.......WHAT!!! I can't believe they let a guy come on the air and defend the Orioles. I shouldn't be that surprised, considering WASHINGTON D.C.'s Sportstalk 980 is the official home of the BALTIMORE Orioles. I can only hope the Orioles poor attendance(even with an outstanding record) is a direct result of the horrible actions of that LOWLIFE PETER ANGELOS!!
What should have happened when the then-Expos moved to D.C. is that Comcast should have broadcast Orioles games to the Baltimore region and Nationals games to the D.C.region. Why [DELETED] am I still able to see EVERY Oriole game in D.C. and very few Nationals games? It's good to see that Peter Angleos' plan to SCREW the Nationals and their fans appears to be backfiring against him.

What should have happened when the then-Expos moved to D.C. is that Comcast should have broadcast Orioles games to the Baltimore region and Nationals games to the D.C.region. Why the F@#K am I still able to see EVERY Oriole game in D.C. and very few Nationals games? It's good to see that Peter Angleos' plan to SCREW the Nationals and their fans appears to be backfiring against him. 1. Even as a life-long Orioles fan, I agree that Angelos is a horrible owner. I don't think he's a horrible owner for trying to protect his investment, but rather because I honestly believe he attemped to push his own fans away to keep baseball out of D.C. But with that said, I don't love the Orioles (or any team for that matter) because of the owner. I'd hope other Orioles fans feel the same way. 2. How are you surprised that Orioles attendance is not improved? It's nonsensical to think that having the same TV contract, as well as a new team in a previous Orioles market would improve Orioles attendance. I'll also point out that attendance has been low due to factors like horrible spring weather here in Baltimore. Angelos MIGHT have somthing to do with attendance, but then again, Angelos is not exactly a new guy in town. But lower attendance is a new issue. 3. There wasn't an attendance problem when we swept the Yanks. Good opponents draw more people to the ballpark. Hey, and the Nats attendance wasn't all that great during the Atlanta, Florida, and Phillies series. 4. Would a casual baseball fan (not necessarily a B'more fan or a D.C. fan) in D.C. rather watch on television the first place Orioles, with a powerful offense and a surprisingly successful young pitching staff, keep dominating the A.L. East, or would they rather watch the 15-13 Nats? 5. You contradict yourself when you point out that the Orioles attendance is down, but that its absurd to assume that some of that can be attributed to a new team in an area where fans used to flock from. I grew up in Reston and know very well how many people made the drive to Baltimore very often because there was no team in D.C. or closer. Facts are facts. 6. Again, why are you surprised a guy came on a D.C. talk show and defended the O's? Unless you're an older generation, the only "home" team D.C. has had for a long time is the O's. Every Nat's fan is a bandwagon fan in my mind unless you were pulling for the Expos for a few years. Otherwise you're just cheering for a geographic location and some uniforms, not a baseball club.

Posters and Nats fans,
Please keep the language clean--see the rules for further clarification...
Even I, as a nearly lifelong Orioles fan, can understand the vitriol directed towards Angelos but f-bombs, even if virtual, aren't permitted! Thanks for your cooperation....WBH
