Yeah, it'd have been nice to be able to see it, even if only on TV (and Wilky hitting for the cycle).
^%*#*$&^%*&% Angelos. Will someone please explain to him that the best way to alienate the DC area fans is to continue to run roughshod over the Nats? If he'd take a deep breath he'd realize that most of the baseball fans in the area are Orioles fans and since there's no competition b/w the two b/c they're in different leagues, people will continue to support to O's while adding the Nats.
The way he's acting though, I couldn't see how a Nats supporter could continue to support the O's while he's the owner.

Agree. Angelos is really stupid. I think most DC O's fans were going to support both teams. Now he's essentially forcing them to choose, and they'll choose the DC team: 1) because it's THE DC TEAM and 2) because the Orioles don't put a great product out on the field anyway. The O's aren't very hard to give up if you're a DC-area resident (unless of course, you're a real die-hard O's fan). Camden is hard to get to in traffic, the O's lose a lot, and it's hard to support a team with not much hope (ie everyone assumes Angelos has no idea what's going on). When the Ravens moved to Baltimore, most Baltimore fans moved their loyalty from the Redskins to the Ravens, because they were the local team. I think the same thing will happen with the Nats. Hopefully we'll get a good rivalry out of the thing.
I'm excited for the Nats. Wilky hitting for the cycle, Guillen hitting the HR-- all in the Bowden master plan. Just need better pitching, and an owner to sign the young guys to long-term deals.
And I'm going to Opening Night! ;D

And I'm going to Opening Night! ;D You lucky SOB...I was up an hour early to get tickets when they went on sale and was cruelly denied by a combo of a dial up connection and few tickets. That being said, the best thing a new owner could do is get a real GM. Bowden's off season activity (and history) worry me a lot. You know it's not a good sign when the moneyball guys and the traditionalists both agree that your offseason was bad...

The way he's acting though, I couldn't see how a Nats supporter could continue to support the O's while he's the owner. Haha, I didn't even know there were Orioles fans...I thought Camden was just Fenway South & Yankee Stadium South...depending on who they were playing. Hell, I bet Jays fans out drew them at home. My favorite images in the Post were of Red Sox fans in full get up catching a game winning HR in the bleechers with not a single person wearing an O's hat in the whole photo. I was also at the game that Pedro mowed down 15 in Camden to put the Sox in first place. By the last couple innings the stadium was rocking with "PEDRO" chants. Spine tingling. One of the greatest games I've ever seen. I wish I could have seen the game in Yankee stadium a year earlier when he dropped 17Ks in a 1-hitter and had them cheering for him by the end. Hard to believe it ever happened, especially in Sept.

I'm dissapointed that you guys aren't ripping that PIECE OF GARBAGE Peter Angelos some more. The Nationals just won a dramatic extra inning game over the Phillies, taking 2 out of 3 in the series and the game isn't televised and the radio broadcast is almost impossible to pick up!!! I can't believe Major League Baseball has let a SCUMBAG like Peter Angelos PUNK them like this.
ALL of the Nats games should be televised on Comcast Sportsnet, Channel 50, Channel 8, or Channel 20, just like the Oriole games have been in the D.C. area for YEARS. Comcast Sportsnet has a regional broadcast for the Baltimore area and D.C.area when it comes to Redskins and Ravens post game shows, they couldn't do the same for broadcasting Nats and Oriole games??
I must also rip Sportstalk 980. First, for actually signing a deal to broadcast Oriole games a few years back. They must feel proud that the D.C.BASEBALL TEAM broadcasts its games on a station that NOBODY can pick up, while they broadcast BALTIMORE ORIOLE games every night. That's almost as laughable as the fact that Sportstalk 980 lost the rights to broadcast Redskins games to a [EDITED] SHOCK-JOCK station, yet they continue to do a pre game, half time, and post game show for the Redskins. I could slam Sportstalk 980 all day, but I'll get back to the subject of the Nationals. I actually heard Al Koken claim people in D.C. should support the Orioles as a way to prove that the Nationals aren't taking away fans from the Orioles......WHAT!!!! Yeah, putting money into the pocket of that PIECE OF GARBAGE Peter Angelos will really teach him a lesson. Peter Angelos doesn't realize the Orioles SUCKING for the last 7 seasons is why fans won't come to watch the Orioles.
Also, what's up with Tony Kornheiser ripping Andy Pollin for wanting more Nationals games to be televised? If the Nationals are playing, EVERYONE in the D.C.area should have the capability to watch it. It's not about watching every game, its about having the chance to watch them play on any given day/night. We all know T.Kornheiser goes to sleep at 8PM and doesn't like sports anymore. But Washington D.C. hasn't had a team in over 30 years and EVERY game should be televised.

I agree completely with you. The thing is, I'm from MN and hence a Twins fan first (and I got MLB.TV, so I've been watching them) and thus don't really have the outrage. That being said, Baseball is run by a bunch of [EDITED]. And Angelos is a dumb [EDITED].

Word is that the TV problem will be fixed next year--ie all Nats games will be televised. However, that doesn't make this year any better.
Angelos sucks. Orioles suck. And yes, I love how 980 constantly promotes the Nats and doesn't even carry their games! I could care less about how the O's do. We need Nats coverage on 980. Hopefully this happens whenever their contract with the O's runs out. I'm sure they will switch.
Vidro is awesome. Nats are in first place (well, at least for today)!

Looks like some steps are being taken already for better TV coverage: Nats' TV Coverage Gets Upgrade Next Nine Games Will Be Shown on Channel 20 By David Nakamura and Thomas Heath Washington Post Staff Writers Friday, April 8, 2005; Page D01 In the face of growing outrage from Washington Nationals fans unable to watch the first two victories on television, baseball officials announced yesterday that the team's next nine games will be shown on WDCA-20, beginning with tonight's contest against the Florida Marlins. www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A35042-2005Apr7.html

I say start a boycott of all things Orioles until the Nats are on TV...you laugh but that it would turn a lot of heads if ad revenues started to dip dramatically for O's games.

I think attendance is definitely hurting at the O's games for whatever reason. I think someone asked on the radio the other day if 10,000 of the O's announced 20k+ crowd dressed up as empty chairs. Angelos has definitely alienated plenty of DC fans.

And I doubt there were 16,000 people there.

Watched it on ESPN and it definitely looked empty...and I mean like only 2K to 5K people...but the weather definitely played a big part in that.

I saw the Nats first two games. Lots of DC fans for the first game, not many people period for the second- less than half the attendance from Opening Day.
It was great to see the first win, but honestly, watching the first game, I really did not care about the outcome. I just could not get over the fact that I finally had a home team to cheer for.
Here's to the beginning of a successful, unending run in DC! Let's go Terrmell Sledge!
BTW, as a big baseball fan, I always caught a bunch of O's games each summer. For the last two years, though, I have refused to buy Orioles tickets, because of my dislike for Angelos. So it is that these were the first two years of my life I did not attend a professional baseball game. It made Monday even sweeter.

So many nickname possibilities for Sledge if he becomes a power hitter. Well, he is the Nats current RBI leader...
This series against Fla. will be tough. Willis, Beckett...ouch. Hopefully Livan turns it around tomorrow from his first outing.

Too bad the Nationals got hammered last night in Florida but I was glad it was televised and that possibly 150 of their games will be televised this season. That's a HUGE improvement over the 76 that was originally scheduled to be televised.
I read that some of you attended some/all of the Oriole home games against the A's this year. Was the attendance low for all 3 games? Did you guys at the game sense any anger amongst the fans about the way Peter Angelos is SCREWING the Nationals and their fans? I'm hoping for 3 things: 1.The Nationals win more games than the Orioles 2.Sammy Sosa gets a steroid suspension 3. The Orioles set a new low for fan attendance
If ALL of these things happen, that PIECE OF GARBAGE Peter Angelos will be a DEFEATED MAN and will have no choice but to crawl back into the little hole he came out of!! I hated to write that about Sammy Sosa, but the fact Peter Angelos signed him ONLY to get attention away from the Nationals forces me to root for a steroid suspension for him.

Did you guys at the game sense any anger amongst the fans about the way Peter Angelos is SCREWING the Nationals and their fans? I attended the last A's/O's game and there weren't a lot of people there, but it was also raining all evening. Crappy weather for a baseball game--made me wish for the Metrodome . Anyway, I didn't sense any anger at Angelos, but then again, I doubt many people made the trek up from DC like we did, b/c of the possibility of a rainout. Though, I did get the sense that people weren't all that excited about the O's. If the Nats don't do it, the Yanks and Red Sox will kill off interest in the Orioles. It's gotta be hard to care about a team that has no chance of competing within its own division.
