YB, I criticized the performance, not your "kids" (this isn't the third grade play, after all). If you can't take the slightest criticism of your performance, don't perform in the first place. Stop bullying other posters because you can't take criticism. I'm sorry, but we're not all obligated to like the Ballroom Dance performance.
You're going ape over some posters on the internet, resorting to ad hominem attacks to whoever Editedes you off in the slightest. Believe me, this is an incredible waste of time and energy.

--But then again, I also think we should have a dance contest at the half similar to the Navy game. ;D WE HAVE A WINNER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have been pestering Athletics ever since that game for us to have our very own dance contest. If Navy can do it, we certainly can. Could you imagine having two students face-off to three 45-second snipits of music from three different genres. Simply, awesome! I urge anybody interested in seeing the Hoya Dance Off to email Athletics.

Sorry, "bando", but that argument does not wash.
When I came into work this morning I saw 8 posts on this thread, of which 5 were gratuitously withering criticism of my group. I do take exception to that, I'll stand up every time on behalf of my students who put in a hell of a lot of time and effort into this.
It was intended as a one-time thing, something different for everyone. You like it, you don't like it, not important really. But I see what was said by you and others as tantamount to the kind of middle-aged, pathetic armchair quarterbacks who never did anything themselves but are so eager to judge everyone else.
It was meant for fun man. Tell me, if I'm overreacting so much, why did you, suze, your good homophobic buddy Dhall and others take the time to single us out? You called us out on an internet chat board, not the other way around. If it really meant so little to you, stop bashing us here. And get out there and show us your (I'm sure) considerable talents next time.

What's with the charges of homophobia? Where are those coming from? Maybe I missed something in this thoroughly entertaining and inane thread, but where was the jab at homosexuals? Just wondering...

forget all these losers, who are probably just sad that they have pathetic miserable lives and jobs I'm not positive, but I'm pretty sure this was an ad hominem attack against me. I don't appreciate it and would like it removed. ;D -- well, no not really. Actually Whether this is a valid discussion or not, I thought it was interesting, though I didn't have much to contribute. I'll go along with Harbin on one thing, though: I hope it dies out tomorrow. That which unites us -- namely utter contempt for everything Orange -- is far greater than that which divides us.

Holy crap -- my internet connection was down this afternoon and I have missed all the fun!!!
three things:
1. We should revive this thread in May, when we don't have anything else to talk about
2. I am AMAZED that no one dropped "BOOM goes the Dynamite!!""
3. YB, I admire what you have done for HB, and it takes guts to ballroom dance at halftime, but don't be surprised that most people didn't like it -- I think it is a time and place thing. People may like M&B plays, but if they came out at halftime saturday and tried to do a "one act" or some quick improv, they would be booed off the court. Doesn't make them any less talented, it just is a matter of finding the right audience. That said, I didn't see it (I was in the little ballroom dancers room) -- maybe people didn't like it because it sucked.
BOOM GOES THE DYNAMITE!!!!

YB -- first of all, it's "Suz", not "Suze".
Frankly, if I had known I'd be talking to the coach of the group, I probably would have been more tactful in my remarks. But the fact remains, I thought the venue was inappropriate and I didn't care for the performance itself (I know, I'm now apparently a middle-aged blasphemer fat-ass for having an opinion about a student group's actual performance.) I've been on the other side of the criticism -- hell, I was in the pep band for 3 years back when there was really, truly, no support for performing arts on the GU campus, save for a hot dog thrown at me during halftime. I danced in performances at the Arts Gala. I competitively danced until I came to GU. Don't talk to me about "never doing anything but being so eager to judge." Just because someone has an opinion you dislike doesn't mean it's completely unfounded.
On to Saturday...

I'm not saying that DHall's comments were homophobic or not, but I will say one thing.
Jerry Rice is in the finals of Dancing with the Stars. He was also at Midnight Madness. Anyone see any trends? Thought so.
So there.

Just for the record, I think the kids were fine. They had guts to go out and do it, and probably did their steps just fine. They deserve our applause for both. I do have an issue with whoever chose the choreography, which simply couldn't be perceived visually from where most seats are in MCI, and whoever chose the costumes, which to me just looked like sloppy ordinary student wear, more or less, with one or two random deviations. The song wasn't my favorite, either - I'd prefer Waylon if you're going to do country. My problem was that, from where I sat, it just looked just like a bunch of kids walking around. And I don't think it was the kids, it was the program. This wasn't unfamiliar territory to me - heck, I come from a state so red that my high school has both a square dance team and a clog team, both of which were a lot more entertaining than what we saw last night. It is not a big deal, it just didn't work, y'know? You take chances, sometimes you learn and do it differently next time. People have a right to react. And, hey, if using the word "choreography" on a basketball board runs the risk of flames, so be it.

No one called you or any of the ballroom members out personally. Suz and others commented on a performance they saw at the game. No one went "Wow, that YB sure is a tool" or the like. They commented on the performance they saw, which they didn't like. It's not outside the realm of this board to comment on things that happen at games, and there's no rule that says we have to like everything we see. Would you rather us hand you trophies and platitudes simply for trying?
No one doubts that you and ballroom worked hard at your performance. That fact, however, doesn't automatically mean that performance was good, unconfusing, or well suited for a basketball game. Thus, these are all appropriate topics for discussion. Your defensive artist act is getting tiring, and I really wish you'd stop being such a baby about all this.
Oh, and my screenname is Bando. BANDo! I couldn't possibly have done anything at Georgetown that required me perform artistically, certainly nothing that required me to perform at basketball games. [/sarcasm]

At least they didn't tell you that you don't watch Georgetown games or aren't a real Hoya fan, YB. There's a certain poster in multiple other threads on my case the last few days. I think that's far worse.

The fact that we can type ape and not s-u-c-k-s makes about as much sense as a ballroom dancing performance at halftime of a basketball game.
Honestly, how are we going to adequately describe Syracuse without the use of that word?
Now is the time in Shprockets when we dance.

YB - a few things
Unfortunately this thread is more entertaining than the performance, as said wrong venue, I think you kind of know this from the level of your protestations (your replies, which are your basic vicious internet attack)
I for one cannot believe that you KNEW a performer would wear New Jersey Devils colors (In red, as were most of your performers!) as the Hoyas went up against the Scarlet Knights and approved of that. BAD CHOICE !!
And... well I don't judge ballroom dancing, so it may have been perfect, but back there somewhere you said like 8 of 9 or something were performing for the first time.
Finally, I may be subject to your attacks, but I also cringed and felt embarrassed at half time. I guess I must be one of those people you generalized with your nasty words up thread.

Couple of thoughts:
1. I can't believe this thread hasn't devolved into a band-bashing thread. There's been like six chances to bash the band. C'mon, somebody do it. Those are always fun.
2. Devil Went Down to Georgia is a great song. I hate 80%+ of country music, but I'm with YB on this one -- a great song and a much better song choice for a basketball crowd than something classical.
3. Since when has halftime/timeout entertainment been all that appropriate or interesting? I find it hard to believe that people have super high standards for halftime entertainment.
4. I wish I could ballroom dance. Pretty sure chicks dig it.
