I only mentioned tuxedos because that is what I associate with ballroom dancing. That is probably small minded of me, yes. I didn't mean it in a derogatory way, I just was not expecting the costumes. I actually thought at first some student group was going to make fun of WVU fans. That was my first thought too - that, or this was something that didn't happen at the WVU game because of the snow. I also agree with the poster above that context such as what he suggested would have been helpful and at least quelled the "What the @#$?" comments from some of the "closed-minded" audience. I guess that's just Thursday morning quarterbacking, though. As another aside, it seems like that wasn't the first time this season the MCI center has screwed up the dance team's music -- that's really ridiculous.

YB, your little hissy fit is getting annoying. One part of putting on a performance is dealing with criticism of that performance. You somehow feel that everyone should offer you glowing praise just because you went on. That's ridiculous. Grow thicker skin instead of blasting all of us for offering our honest reactions.

Hey, I'm a fan of the Dance team, Groove Theory, and the cheerleaders- they do a tough job well under a lot of scrutiny and pressure. We didn't intend to steal anyone's thunder or time- just asked to try something different and maybe take 3 1/2 minutes one halftime, and it happened to be last night.
Man, tough crowd. I'd have thought since everyone knew that song that it would be a bit more entertaining than Please tho: you can criticize me all you want, but stay away from gratuitously bashing my students.
And Bando, I want to point out that the moderators consistently lock threads that subject the Hoyas to criticisms like the ones you all doled out to us. This is correct: It is not appropriate to publicly offer such withering criticism to college students. My point is that such classless, unhelpful tripe is very unbecoming a GU alum or student.
BTW, I wasn't even supposed to be out there, but that one of my students had his Mom get really ill and I was the only understudy. Other than me, these are college kids. Cut 'em a break, huh?

This thread is a great indicator for the state of the basketball program.
When people spend most of their time complaining about concessions, the field condition, halftime entertainment, uniforms or music during timeouts the day after any football or hoops game it's usually the sign of a win and people looking for something to complain about.
If this is the biggest complaint anyone has about the Rutgers game, I'll take it all the time since it means we won the game.

I think this thread is rather unfortunate, but rather entertaining. Are the folks who are attacking the performance really that self-important that they feel they could a) do a better job and b) somehow claim to have their experience lessened by a 3 1/2 minute performance at halftime when most people are buying beer, taking a leak, etc..?
This fan base is adept at eating their own. YB puts a lot of time into the program and does not deserve to be attacked in this manner.

SuzHoya I commend you and I thought you have been very nice. I thought the performance was weird, queer (as in dorky) and technically bad - though I'm probably not the best judge of the technical aspects. I paid lots of $ for season tickets and would rather see something else at halftime.
We have the right to criticize anybody or anything, particularly ballroom dancers if we want to, because this is America and we accept the freedom to speak one's mind. Nothing wrong with some people liking it and others hating it. If this board tolerates harsh criticisms of basketball players who wear "Georgetown" on their shirts, then for goodness sake we can tolerate a little ripping of ballroom dancers.
In addition, I don't like Johnny Weir or figure skating. Is that so wrong?

Well, I pay a lot of money for season tix and would rather not have DHall in the arena. Thus, I will now campaign for his ouster.
What a dumb argument. How the hell did people like this get a degree?

Other than me, these are college kids. Cut 'em a break, huh? Not saying you ever have or ever will, but I'd watch out about criticizing any basketball players in the near future. This may be your own little "whole 'nother level" moment on the board.

In the immortal words of Homer Simpson: you're all nuts.
But please, continue for several more pages, it is quite entertaining.
Oh and if YB's "bottom line" was followed here, what a boring place this board would be:
"Bottom line: If you have no talent and no balls, enough to not get out there and perform yourself, you have no room to be so critical. Period."

I never said one couldn't be critical, and that one couldn't be critical of me, just temper it a bit when criticizing the students.
I have criticized players in the past but when I have it's generally been pretty mild.

All I want to know is if anyone remembers the kids doing jump rope tricks 2-3 years ago at halftime? Anyone?
I have to say nothing will ever top it or even compete with it for a halftime show.

I do remember that! Has anyone else noticed the ballroom dancing banners at the top of this thread? ;D (of course, now it just changed!)

Actually, those banners are the sort of classes and private lessons I normally teach. My coaching the GU team is a volunteer activity.

YB: I appreciate your message to me above. You are the "coach" of a ballroom dancing "team". That says more about you than I could ever come up with and I'll leave it at that. Go Hoyas.

YB -- No issue with the banners or the classes (I even dragged my husband to Arthur Murray before our wedding for some basics); just found it amusing, that's all.

Dhall, I am indeed, among my many pursuits, coach (for now) of the Ballroom team, and teach private lessons on the side. I did however appreciate your homophobic overtures, however, because it let me know that I can entirely dismiss any and all criticism from you. Ugh.

1. I love that song 2. While it was quite bizaree i thought it was very amusing. I don't get why people were so upset by it. Mabye you don't think this was the best place for this or that you'd rather see somethign else but I had a good laugh and throughly enjoyed the performance. 3. the kids did a great job i might be a bit biased cause i'm friends with one of the girls who performed but they did a good job out there. i don't think anyone has complaints about their actual dancing being bad. 4. Keep kicking ass YB.

I read this board regularly, but don't post much, due to threads like this, that have nothing to do with basketball and take away from this board because of their negativity. I come on this board because I am excited about the team and want to talk Hoya Basketball. We got a huge win last night and we are looking towards our first NCAA bid in years. Why do people have to completely detract from that by creating such a rude and offensive atmosphere about the activities that fellow members participate in. This thread started as nothing more then an inane, spiteful and idiotic post about a half time show that obviously took a lot of work and a lot of guts by the Ballroom group. I for one, happen to like ballroom. My girlfriend participated in ball room while at Georgetown and those students are some of the most talented and athletically skilled people at Georgetown. To take jabs at them and feel the need to post on how much you thought they sucked etc is so pathetic especially for most of you that are middle aged adults who do nothing but sit around on your fat asses all day and couldnt jump, turn or dance to save your life. Now I don't know what talents, some of those that are negative on this board have, but I think you should stop and think about how you might feel if someone was bashing you or your kid on this board. Quite frankly, even though I am only a few years out of school and dont have kids, if I saw you talking about my son or daughters performance like this, I would kick your ass. I think YB has every right to be Editeded and I dont find this thread even the least bit amusing. For those that take fun in watching people bicker like children, you can continue to read and post on this thread, but I honestly think it should be closed and taken off this board because it has no place here. Its honestly sad that people on this board have to spend so much time ripping on other schools and other people and it makes Georgetown look pety and childish and does not reflect this so called "superior intelligence" etc that everyone is always flaunting around here so much. Finally, I have to say, without naming names, that there is a really homophobic undertone to several of the posts in this thread and I find that really sickening and sad. Even if not bashing on that level, any really negative comments are so out of place when we should be commending people for trying something different. I think that trying to break the mold on what is done at half time is great. I for one think most of the halftime shows are pretty awful and would much rather see some students from the school I attended, that I give money to perform then some moron who spins 5 basketballs on his head or whatever else might be the show of the day. Just say out of all you haters, that one little girl or boy or whoever in the crowd saw the performance and said, hey that looks cool, I want to do that or try that, I think that would be a great thing. Maybe some kid who isnt that into basketball but that came to the game with his or her parents would see an alternate side to the things that they could do at Georgetown and be more interested in attending. This lame, negative and disgusting attitude displayed on this board is why Georgetown is becoming more and more generic with too many meat head Jane and Joe Hoyas and groups on campus, like performing arts groups dont get the attention or funding they deserve. Right on YB, keep doing your thing and forget all these losers, who are probably just sad that they have pathetic miserable lives and jobs and have to come on here and put other people down to feel good about themselves.
