I cannot believe that anyone at the game last night hasn't posted yet about this -- what the #$#@%$ was that?!?!?!?!? My husband and I sat there and cringed. He looked at me and said, "I'm embarassed to be here right now." I had to agree.
For those of you who didn't have the stomach-churning "pleasure", the GU Ballroom Dancing group "performed" during one of the time outs (or the half, frankly, I'm so scarred by it that my brain is already starting to block it out) to "Devil Went Down to Georgia" -- complete with one guy wearing a NJ Devils jersey. It was disturbing on many levels. It reminded me of a high school homecoming skit. And, where did they find the guys to do this? And since when does line dancing equate to ballroom dancing?
After this, I welcomed the dance team to the floor. That is saying a lot, since I have been completely and utterly frustrated by the GU Dance Team's inability to dance in any formation other than a pyramid for the entire time they are on the floor and their resemblance to the teams my high school kickline routinely beat to a pulp.
This Ballroom Dance thing was awful. And that's being kind.

May want to keep the negatives to a minimum, I believe that YB directs that group that put on the show. When they announced ballroom dancing, I expected tuxedos and dresses. Charlie Daniels kind of threw me for a loop. Gotta give props for thinking out of the box?

Don't mean to offend anyone, but from my vantage point, it was just painful to watch. I'd be happy to give some constructive criticism and suggestions for performing in a 20,000 seat arena as opposed to on a stage, which would have been much better suited for this performance. There were a lot of small movements and facial expressions that were not visible from my seats save for the Jumbotron, and it really was strange. And what was up with carrying the girl on and off the floor? Was she supposed to be the fiddle? I couldn't figure that out.

I was in a box with a bunch of Hoya fans and a few Rutgers fans. We were united in our reaction to this performance: "What in the name of all that is holy was that?"

Hard to say it wasn't entertaining, though probably not in the way it was meant to be. YB has his work cut out for him

I was also surprised by the girl in gold....it took me a while to get the meaning. At first, when the guy walked out with her over his shoulder, I thought it was a mannequin!

Ballroom dancing is great. YB does a great job and the broad spectrum of activities available at Georgetown is remarkable. I believe a better way to state this issue may be: Is halftime of a major college basketball game the proper venue for a ballroom dancing exhibition? Answer: Probably not. Look, these kids work hard to learn this stuff and, no doubt, they want an opportunity to show off their new skills. But in the name of positive reinforcement, let's find a more appropriate venue so that the comments I overhear from those watching aren't overwhelmingly ones of a mocking, derogatory nature.
That said, YB, my faince hails from the cattle-ranching area of Fresno, CA and the San Joaquin Valley and that was some fine line dancing.

Hey man, don't diss the dance team. Especially the svelte blonde members. They remind me of days of yore and let's just leave it at that.

I enjoyed it. Apprently someone won a golden girl from the devil. Fun fiction, but everyone knows that Bea Arthur is the Devils own hell spawn and he would not give her up.
Thank you for being a friend.......

Chalk those particularly snide remarks up to my pregnancy hormones -- the dance team has made great strides since the first time I saw them perform a few years ago. I am just very nitpicky on these things, since I wish I had started the dance team back in my day and these days I can't even see my feet.

It was utterly mystifying. And oddly captivating.
I'm pretty sure this was presented in conjunction with the National Gallery's big dada exhibition.

First off.... screw you all. Especially you, ms. hormones93.
My kids were nervous as hell, most of them had never performed before and the fact that they didn't choke was a minor victory.
Second... What's with the elitist attitude? Devil Went Down to GA is an American classic song... more so than "Since you Were gone"!
Third... The routine included hustle, quickstep, polka, cha cha, as well as scottish and country line dancing. It was technically difficult and very legit.
Fourth.... the Devils jersey was on someone playing A DEVIL!!!! While it was unfortunate we were playing at the Rutgers game- we were not going to change it for that reason.
Look, while halftime of the game may not have been the ideal venue, I'm very proud of my kids, they did well; and I will not sit idly by and let negative, elitist people WHO WOULD NEVER HAVE THE COURAGE TO PERFORM IN FRONT OF SO MANY PEOPLE tear them down. That simply ain't right, and suze as a future mother I hope you don't treat your kids this way. Shameful.

I support you, and I know many others here do as well. But damnit, YB, its "Since You BEEN Gone" - don't screw with my future wife Ms. Kelly Clarkson like that!

Sorry, I don't really care if the guy who runs the "ballroom dancing" team is on this board. First of all, to say that "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" is an American classic song is laughable- it's southern rock from 1979- we're not talking Ellington music here. Second, when a halftime performance has people in my section screaming for them to bring back musical chairs, there's a problem. Finally, Ballroom dancing and Charlie Daniels do not mix. Out
