OT v. Norfolk State? How embarrassing.
THis team has a LOT of growing up to do.
Can you imagine what a laughing stock we'd be if we let that one get away??
I hope JT3 puts the hammer down. Our 3 pt shooting, 9-26, was 36%. That doesn't look bad, but there was a long stretch there when they just weren't dropping and we were not getting the ball inside.
Looking forward to hearing comments from those who were there... on our offensive droughts, and our mediocre defense. Also, on how good NS looked... is. Didn't someone post their RPI of over 300???
Man... GU can look really really good at times, but tonight was just awful. Glad I stayed in Hawaii!

Listing to the game on line, seem like we were not in it mentally after that big lead. We have to tighten up on "d". However with this team, a win is a win!!! Wait until we hit a couple upsets in the Big East. Ala Pitt, Syr. U-Conn!!!

Don't know what to say. Was flying high after the Clemson victory, but after blowing a 10 point half-time lead to Norfolk State, this brings us down to earth really quickly.
Let's hope we can just shrug it off to post-Hawaiian post-Christmas rust.
Here is to Norfolk State running the table in the MEAC.

Norfolk is not predicted to be one of the best 5 teams in the dreadful MEAC. THis might be the nadir of the program in the last quarter century.

A win is never the nadir. Look, even good teams (which we are not) occasionally get tough games (and even get beaten) by terrible teams. WE LOST TO ST. JOHNS POST PROSTITUTE SCANDAL, PEOPLE. A little perspective is called for.

I don't know what's worse, that we just tied a MEAC team after regulation, or that had to post this just to get this travesty to the top of the hoyatalk board over a video game thread. Where is the outrage people? Maybe people just didn't even know we had a game tonight.

Well, we survived a Big MEAC attack. It's more important that we didn't lose than that we barely won against Norfolk State. "Not losing. It's almost as good as winning." (Sounds like a presidential campaign slogan)

THis was a high school team we couldn't beat in regulation 3.

That was the suckiest game I've ever attended.
The players weren't interested in the game.
The fans weren't interested in the game.
The referee's and scorer's table weren't interested in the game (or at least if they were, they're imbeciles).
I wasn't interested in the game.
The only people who seemed to care was Norfolk St., and they were dreadful.
Everyone kinda stood around untill there were 6 seconds left on the shot clock and magically people started to play some "offense" and we'd score. It was ugly.
Ray Reed got a lot of undeserved minutes and royally sucked.
(Although, I admit the most interesting part were the 3 possesions him and Bowman tried to do connect on some alley oop's...that was pretty cool, albeit maddening.)
Hibbert didn't play well.
Owens came to play for awhile it seemed...he'd randomly show up and make a big play (couple of 3's and terrific passes) but the rest of the time I had to check to see if he was on the floor.
Cook and Green probably played the best of all. After wasting 30 seconds and not setting up the offense, Cook did a fine job when the pressure was on.
Yeah, what a stinker.

honestly - the game sucked... student section was full of freebie ticket holders that did not stand up once... but it doesn't get even close to the johnies debacle of yesteryear... we are starting three freshmen, rebuilding a program - and i wasn't impressed tonight with our composure - but still not even close to a eshesque collapse tonight. we didn't come to play, but we still won. i wouldn't read too much into tonight. a young team, playing a team that wanted nothing more than to beat the once-mighty (soon to be might again) hoyas. they were fired up, and we weren't. give them time.

I'll give them time: 40 minutes. That's as in "If Howard has more than 50 points after 40 minutes you run until you puke blood."
It's one thing to not have the shots falling but to almost lose only because of poor defense is a disgrace. They almost threw away all the momentum from the last two tournament games with this performance. JTIII should be (and probably is) all over them right now.

A little perspective my ass. I remember the Johnnies debacle- this may well be worse- but it is certainly on par. THis was a high school team we couldn't beat in regulation 3. Actually considering what is happening in the world right now PERSPECTIVE would be nice. Calm down and understand its just one game; not the end of the universe. In the pre-game interview Chvotkin brought up how Norfolk State took Rutgers right down to the wire and how tonight's game could be a tough one. It was. If the team had blown Norfolk State out by 30 points it would have meant nothing because the Hoyas have been doing that to MEAC teams for the last five years only to go on and be near the bottom of the Big East. I think the team's play at Davidson, against Penn State and against Clemson tells me its better than Norfolk State. These types of close wins (and at times close losses) are nothing more than the signs of a young, not so deep team that has three freshmen in the starting lineup and all of the returning players learning a new system.

This team seemed tired and as a result totally flat for most of the second half. The offense couldn't penetrate. Ran most of the plays from the perimeter down to the last few seconds on the shot clock and put it up with little chance underneath. Not many cuts, or put backs. Can't imagine what that would look like with a solid opponent. I'll leave that to others.
Bowman was effective in OT. Hibbert continues to be a project, as his hands and feet seem to be on different teams . Green stays aggressive and has confidence inside and out often in the face of double teams. Reed was a little frantic at times. Wallace steady. Cook hot and cold.
We pulled it together in OT which is a good sign. I wouldn't overreact. JT III kept his cool and as a result the team kept their focus and made the best out of a bad situation. Norfolk State played hard with what they had. The refs were awful in the second half. MCI was quiet because it was a holiday crowd with a lot of young kids who had a ball.

ok not a great game but a win roy didnot have the best game their defense actually stopped jefff inside... the other team wasnot that bad they hustled and had some athletes and shooters .. we fell apart i think brandon had 13 in the first half two in the second or so and then eight on a great tear in ot to put it away.. one sequence he lost the ball badly and then got it back and went on a tear.. ray reed little outa control like last year hibbert not a factor did get called for one or two quesionable offensive foula which seemed to take him outa the game but we didnot lose this game repeat we didnot lose this game and some great back doors some great second effort baskets maybe tired and flat from hawaiii who knows but they didnot give up; and coulda go hoyas howard has won some games this year and will be tough on thurs they will be tough
