I feel that I should clarify a couple parts of St. Pete's story, because he mentions an encounter I had with MPD 2 years back. Me and a couple of my friends were enjoying a Rosh Hashana dinner (Gold Hoya is right St. Pete- you can spell it however you want and you actually did a good job!). However, Rabbi White was not there (that would've been hilarious). At maybe 8 or 9pm, when one of my friends went outside to make a phone call. They were on their cell phone when an MPD cruiser pulled up and started yelling at my friend who was on the phone saying: "Do live here? Excuse me, Do you live here?" My friend had to get off the phone to talk to the police. He brought me outside at the officer's request and I was told "We've been getting complaints about noise in the area- I ask you to keep the noise down." When I told her that there must be a mistake and that we were having a small holiday dinner I was told "Just keep the noise down, sir." and she drove away.
What really bugs me is not a story like this, but the story of Saturday and of early this semester when real crimes take place when parties are getting broken up. Since we all know this past weekend's story, I'll share one from January. I was at a party on Bank St. (in between Prospect and M St.) on a Sunday night before MLK Day at around 12:45AM when 7 (that's right SEVEN) Metro Police cars pulled up. 5 Police officers came up to the party to tell people to leave and all 5 stayed for 15-20 minutes lecturing my friend who lives in the house about having noisy parties. All 5 of them stood around intimidating my friend as they wrote a $300 noise violation citation. And 3 police cruisers stayed behind on Bank St.making sure no one was walking out with an open container and/or coming back to the house to start the party again. The next day I read in the DPS blotter that at 1AM, exactly one block over from the party on 33rd and N St., a guy who was visiting Georgetown as a guest of a student was robbed at gunpoint. Of course "MPD canvassed the area with negative results." I understand that MPD is under pressure from the neighborhood to crackdown on noisy parties, but do they really need to send 7 cop cars to write a stupid noise violation? Maybe if they sent one cop car and then had the rest patrolling? What a concept. I nearly ripped the Hoya yesterday when I saw that comment from the Lt. What airheads.

So does anyone know why? I am sure he worked really hard but was this because of an injury to the starters/back ups or was he just that great? So excited for him! If you click on the link above, you'll find the details you are looking for.

The game was called with 1:17 left, 45-12. 1-10. Let the off-season begin. Why was the game called? Darkness? Slaughter rule?

Coaching? How about this next sequence... Eric Bjonerud kickoff for 50 yards returned by Tyler Fisher for 32 yards to the Gtown 48, tackled by Kyle Vanfleet and Willie Bodrick. 1st and 10 at GEO 48 Bryan Walker pass complete to Dan Coleman for 14 yards to the Gtown 34 for a 1ST down. Outplayed is more like it... I agree with that too, but it's embarassing that our coaches won't even give our guys a chance to get back in the game with the plays they are callling. It's not even like they can argue our passing game is a liability because there haven't been any interceptions today.

6 pass attempts in the first half and only 3 first downs. Even though we went down by 28 after the first quarter, there were only 3 pass attempts in the second quarter?. This is a recurring strategy for us- give up points in the first quarter and then stubbornly stick to the conservative game plan. I never thought I would actually miss Benson's playcalling, but I definitely do.

....always have hope ....i even hope they win a game rather than just keeping it close ....when is the last time we scoed in the 1 st qtr ....theres room for improvement there .... Thinking along those lines, would it be out of the question to begin the game in a no-huddle offense? Since we run many similar plays anyway, would it really handicap us to limit time for substitutions? This would also give the opposing team less time to call special blitz packages or figure out our offensive plays before they happen.

Can scores over 99 be posted on the scoreboard? As witnessed in games both last year and this year, the clock would probably malfunction long before a score over 99 was posted. Since the university won't accept funds for the multi-sport facility right now, can football boosters pay off the construction company working on the new science building to "accidently" knock over the scoreboard with one of their cranes?

If we can't even be sure our scoreboard is going to work, how can we expect to even compete with one of the top teams in the Ivy League? I just hope there aren't injuries- there is going to be quite a size and speed difference on both sides of the ball.

Not to be simplistic, but WHY can't we have a stadium better than Lafeyette's? Is there anyone that would deny that G'town is a university of far greater stature with more resources than our friends in Easton? Seems to me its a question of priorities. Am I wrong? Is there something I'm missing? Greater stature? Yes. Greater resources? Questionable. Lafeyette has the benefit of cheaper land and a suburban neighborhood as opposed to the unfriendly confines (in terms of the neighborhood council and zoning laws) of the Georgetown "urban" neighborhood. Also, the inability to fundraise for and manage an endowment and the significant loss of money by the Georgetown Hospital is well documented on this board.

Best chance at a PL victory is against Fordham...... Lafayette 34 - Hoyas 14
I also predict:
- Georgetown will not score points in the first quarter
- Lafayette's scoreboard will function normally for the entire game

The scoreboard temporarily stopped working in the third quarter. At least 5 to 6 minutes of gametime were played without a game clock or scoreboard. Hopefully a new scoreboard will be included in the MSF development plan, part IIB subsection 7.0245. It was pretty embarassing for that to happen during our homecoming.

St. Pete, I think you are confused with the rule that allows for a free kick after a fair catch called for a punt. In this case, the free kick is from the spot of the fair catch and consists of an unguarded attempt for 3 points, not 1. Who can forget the NFL game this year (can't remember which one it was), when a 70 yard attempt to win the game was almost allowed because the opposing coach declined a penalty that would give them the opportunity to re-kick/run out the clock?

50-1 odds on us scoring in the first quarter. I of course consulted expert Vegas bookmakers such as Rick Tocchet and Janet Gretzky

I don't see our team scoring more than 7 points against Brown. We couldn't get more than that against Stony Brook and struggled to get first downs in the game against Holy Cross (no first downs in the 2nd quarter for those of you keeping score). Our defense will once again come to play though. Final score: Fecal coloration 17- Hoyas 7.

I will be there for sure. Even though it is Rosh Hashanah, the fact that my grandfather is a proud Columbia alum and my cousin currently attends Columbia make this game a must-see for my family. So I will hopefully get there on time, but more likely for the second half.

...the shot-gun draw? One question- was it to the weak side or was it off-tackle?
I'm not going to lie- favorable weather (meaning unfavorable weather, such as rain) is what we would need to beat a team like Lehigh. Clear skies and we might be in for a long day of run, punt, and pray w/ more of the punting and praying than running.

If Fairfield was ranked in the top 25, I guess you would consider that game just about the best thing ever, given how tough of a game it was. But, take away that ranking, and that game was just a waste, huh? Never mind the valuable lessons learned and experience gained? It's beyond ludicrous to suggest that III is scheduling pansies to get easy Ws. It's one thing to argue for games against higher ranked teams for the excitement, national spotlight, potential $, etc. But I don't think JTIII will need to check in over here to help figure out the best way to prepare the team for the Big East. Maybe he has a suggestion box set up in McDounough and you can drop him a note though, 'cause he sure seems like he needs the help. THANK YOU!!! I was waiting for someone to say something along these lines. All of this whining about scheduling and we are the #4 team in the country! The national media is not talking about our weak scheduling because they know that we don't have to PROVE to anyone that we are a final four contender. Even if we lose to Memphis, which I don't think will happen, all we have to do is go 10-8 in the Big East and WE'RE IN THE TOURNAMENT. If we beat Memphis and finish in the top 3 of the Big East, we'll be anywhere between a 1-5 seed in the tournament. Let's keep things in perspective here! Post of the week candidate!

Keep the blinders on all you want, roy is playing soft as cotton. Period Last year, you repeatedly posted about how we lacked a true point guard and how we would not be able to overcome this fatal flaw. As the season progressed, our guards played better and you stopped talking about our "lack of a true point guard." This year, you are repeatedly posting about Roy being soft. We are only 5 games in here- I fully expect Roy and the rest of guys to play an entirely different game during the Big East season. For now, I'm very pleased with Roy's 14 point, 9 rebound, 4 block effort and the fact that our team dominated during crunch time. If Roy is still "soft" come Big East play, you can come back and whine on this message board.
