There's a related post below, but I figure this question merits its own topic. This is something I've been knocking around with some members of the HB board and figured I'd turn it over to yall:
How many people would be interested, and know others who would be interested, in a day trip to New York for the Columbia game? I know the time hasn't been announced yet but since bus rates are per day, it makes just as much sense to let people spend a day in the city, one way or another.
So how about it?

I think it's an excellent idea.
Game time is 12:30, which suggests a 7:00 am charter bus to get into the city and fight its way up to Baker Field, returning to DC approx. 8:30 pm.
Between local fans, students, maybe even the band, it's doable. Something similar was done for a game at Holy Cross in 1999 and the Hoyas had two buses full of parents and fans make a much longer trip.

Yes! That would be great. I am at Columbia right now and have been hearing that we can easily intimidate them with our students. Def something to think about.

I sure hope this happens. I've already made my plans to be there for the game and the weekend, but maybe this could start a trend. Who knows, if it's a successful season we could do a follow up to New York for the final game against Fordham. I'd be on that bus...for certain.
I know there are a bunch of Hoya Alumi in the NY area--would love to see a big Georgetown crowd at both games.

Let's see, the game is on my birthday. Do I enjoy my birthday in DC or spend it schlepping up to NYC to see two of the worst teams in I-AA play?
No offense. It's a great idea though Dima.

I´d have to check my schedule when the date gets closer, but if I didn´t have any conflicts, I´d be down. It´s not a bad excuse to make a trip up to NYC and do some stuff in the area before and after the game. I´m not sure how many people we could get to go beyond the HB regulars, but we´d definitely do our best - flyers, tabling, e-mails, etc.

Good idea....but I agree with CAHoya. We'd have to make it dirt cheap to get a good number of people to go and I just don't know how many people we actually will get seeing as we had a really hard time selling tickets for a road trip to Navy for lacrosse. But, nevertheless, its something we'll probably look into

Phillyhoya, no offense, but I hope you have a horrible birthday and that whatever bar you choose to spend it in becomes over-crowded when the victorious football team returns to DC, thereby making it nearly impossible for you to get to the bar and order any drinks.

Two questions:
1. Would you be marketing this only to GU students, or to local alumni as well? I don't know how many football alums are in the DC area (I imagine a lot), but I bet there'd be some interest among all alums.
2. What are you selling? It's silly, but it prob. does make a difference between, say, "See GU football and spend the day in NYC!" versus "Spend the day in NYC and see GU football!".

Might be interested.... but might also decide to drive up and spend the night Sat. if possible too though.
Not sure of my school/work schedule for fall yet though.

I don't drink. 2. I don't go to bars. 3. Even if we win, it will be the ugliest game ever.

I guess you have a horrible birthday already planned without anyone's help!
A win is a win, who cares what it looks like?
All kidding aside, I don't hope you have a horrible birthday although I doubt I'm alone in not appreciating your uneeded sarcastic shot at our team. Much like I don't care how you spend your birthday, you don't seem to care about our football team so let's just stop commenting on things that mean nothing to us.

Yea, the reason I was thinking this could possibly work is because, aside from the fact that a day in NYC beats a day in Annapolis, this is something that could be done in coordination with the football alumni/Gridiron Club/etc. For people already interested in going or who are definitely going to go, the prospect of a nice bus ride, as opposed to 7 hours+ driving, might be sufficiently enticing.

Just as long as that nice bus ride doesn't entail an hour delay while the driver pulls over to the side of a freeway onramp to wait for his friend to bring him his cell phone charger.

Okay, this story has officially been told so often by people who were there that it now has its own drinking game.

Ro - The last time I checked the only acceptable reasons for not drinking at Georgetown was Crohn's Disease and 48-hour rule. I guess things have changed in the last ten years.

I have heard that between some alumni and parents there will be something organized before and after the game. There is a big push to get at least 500 or more people at the event (hopefully many more at the game), and that any NewYork area alum is encouraged to attend. There should be more specifics coming out some time in August. Please talk it up with everyone and plan on making it a great Hoya day. As for a bus, that will probably be on Hoya Blue to organize.

Pending knowing my law school schedule I am down for a roadtrip to NYC. That should read: pending my figuring out that almost nobody does any actual schoolwork for the first two months during the first year of law school, I am down for a roadtrip to NYC.
