I realize this poll has lock-up potential, but this is to make fun of the board as much as mr.sixer. Also, his disappearance been brought up in various threads.

Mr. Sixer. Congratulations on your recent promotion: hoyatalk2.proboards48.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1164900577I wish you luck in your endeavors to find a point guard like Ashanti Cook with his very point-guard like 2.5 assists per game last year to run the offense. In all seriousness... we are all in agreement that our guard play needs to be better. However, better shooting and passing by our current guards combined with Roy and Jeff stepping up will make us a good team with the existing personel... and no "real" point guard.

A good friend of mine who lived on my freshman floor in Harbin (he's a frequent poster on this board, and I'll leave it up to him if he wants to reveal himself as the subject of this story) found an envelope that had been put under his door with a key and some instructions to appear at a certain time at a certain place on campus with the key to accept the invitation or to return the key to a specific mailbox to deny the invitation. Fortunately, my friend returned the key.

I think Georgetown is a Great Pick! Thank you so much for posting the link to this commercial on YouTube because on the related videos tab, there's a parody of this commercial which can be found at this link: "Less STD's....... than Rutgers" CLASSIC! WARNING: BEWARE OF VOMITING SCENE

Whoa... I just want to be clear that when I said I wanted the football boosters pay for "accidental" destruction, I meant the scoreboard and not the church.

For those current students on this board that are Catholic- If you blame your lack of luck with the ladies because Georgetown isn't Catholic enough or doesn't have enough Catholic girls, I suggest you go to catholicmatch.com- as it was prominently advertised on the bar above this thread a few minutes ago.

These newspaper accounts are one side of the story. Will wait for the other side. There must have been a reason for the action so let's wait to find out whether there was a threat called in or some other cause for the DPS action. Yeah easyed...sure. "Freedom isn't free."

As of this morning, cars by Wisconsin Ave. by R St. were being allowed past the site very slowly, with only 1 lane open I believe. Yesterday, all traffic was diverted from Wisconsin Ave. to 35th St. which created a parking lot of cars heading north on 35th st. and on side streets feeding into 35th st. Gotta love Georgetown traffic.

It must be nice to have land to sell to real estate developers. It would be nice to have land in general. Too bad we threw away that chance to obtain the little piece of land on Foxhall that The Georgetown Waitlist University grabbed up...

Mods, Please lock this thread up. I apologize for any role I played in changing the focus of this thread. I felt it necessary to respond, but I had no intention of changing the focus into a debate on abortion.

And by making that characterization, you are judging someone based on your own definitions of morality and implying moral superiority. I think eating Germans is the most sublime example of moral courage and virtue. Who are you to disagree without implying moral superiority? If you think you are being objective in calling Fr. Drinan's actions evil then I believe you have crossed a line (albeit an undefined line) in terms of judging someone on common moral standards and judging someone on your own standards. Everyone has flaws (personally, I don't think Fr. Drinan's stance on abortion was a flaw- he was morally against it but believed that the church should persuade women to pursue other options and not the Government.), I'm sure you have flaws too (maybe it is your tendancy to judge others). I know I certainly have flaws, but by no means does that make the actions of either of us or Fr. Drinan evil. He had his own beliefs and he followed them- He didn't lie, cheat, or harm anyone (no Mr. Black, the abortions that he couldn't prevent don't count.) Just read some of the articles posted on this thread and maybe you can see why many of us believe that Fr. Drinan was a great person who will be missed on this earth.

Indeed. I didn't mean to imply that I was morally superior to Fr. Drinan, I was rather highlighting the unambiguous deficiencies of his views on the primary moral question of our time. His influence on the issue makes his stance that much more debased. He gave the Kennedy clan the moral cover they needed to do an about face on abortion while simultaneously professing the Catholic faith. I characterize the stand as evil. And by making that characterization, you are judging someone based on your own definitions of morality and implying moral superiority.

I wish him peace in the afterlife, but Fr. Drinan has an enormous amount to answer for. First and foremost would be his unconscionable abortion stance which will live in infamy as one of the most wrongheaded, invidious political decisions in the history of the Republic and the Church. The idea that an act Drinan himself described as "infanticide" can be countenanced by any civil society stands contrary to all that the Catholic Church teaches. To miss that is to in fact miss everything. It speaks of a blindness so all-encompassing as to defy explanation. If a Catholic priest will not speak for those that cannot, what hope is there? Drinan's tired leftism on issues such as trade and the Cold War are demonstrably misguided, but they represent footnotes compared with his complicity in mass death. I realize that this obloquy may seem out of place given his recent passing, but if not now when? Get off your high horse. I'm not Christian, but isn't there a quote by someone important in the New Testament that goes like this: [sarcasm intended] "Let he who is free from sin cast the first stone."

Not really fair to blame GUSA for that. If I remember correctly, the University unilaterally decided to close Darnall after attendance went down a lot and it started to lose money. (Can this University really afford to lose more money?) Georgetown used to have both New South and Darnall cafeterias, but now that Leo's is twice the size of both of those combined, there simply wasn't enough demand to fill the expense. Both were chronically under-attended. Plus, I think that campus meal options have gotten a lot better, at least since I got here. GUSA got dining services to bring Subway, KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell to campus two years ago, instituted Grab 'n Go, has increased the quality of the actual food at Leo's, and has been working on reopening the Dining Hall. It is my understanding, by the way, to answer your original question, that the reason that the building of Darnall Cafeteria has slowed down was that the University's bond rating fell, forcing a debt restructuring program involving complicated bond issuance that essentially halted or greatly slowed all new major contracting. THAT is the reason it has slowed down. Still, I think GUSA should work hard to make sure that the new restaurant -- whatever it is -- is on the meal plan, which is what I am told they are working on now. Pays a little to do your research . Keeps you from sounding like an idiot. While I agree with you that the University deserves the majoirty of the blame for this decision, GUSA championed the idea of putting a restaurant in Darnall as their own and was involved with the negotiations (sorry if that isn't sufficient research for you). I also disagree that Darnall's attendance was going down. lunch was always crowded and I often had trouble finding a table (this was the year before Darnall was closed). With one quarter of the freshman living in Darnall and meal plans made a requirement through sophomore year, it is a disgrace that there is only one place that accepts meals from the required meal plan and that this one place is not even centrally located. If I was a parent of a freshman living in Darnall, I would be furious! The university should have kept Darnall open until they had a definite contract with a restaurant. Also, why on earth would the bond rating slow down a contract negotiation with a restaurant? Unless something is terribly wrong, it is the restaurant looking to pay the University money and not the other way around. I would also assume the buyers would be in charge of construction costs too, but maybe that's a bad assumption when considering a contract involving Georgetown administration.

Just wanted to bump this up and again ask for updates from students on this. It is truly pathetic that a vendor has now been announced and still there has been no activity in that space. What type of "negotiating" is going on between the university and the vendor? International treaties have come to fruition faster than this.

Does anyone have an update on the installation of the new restaurant in Darnall? I walked by there the other day and saw that zero progress had been made. Leave it to our administrators (in conjunction with GUSA of course) to close down one of the only 2 cafeterias before having an alternative in place. I'm sure parents of the freshman living in Darnall will be thrilled to find out that their sons/daughters will have to walk across campus for every one of the meals purchased on the required meal plan. I'm sure it will also be the third semester and counting of long lines with both food and plate shortages by about 1pm. Congratulations Georgetown and GUSA for "fixing" the meal situation.

Ummm... Did you learn the difference between similies and metaphors in the SFS St. Pete? You just showed a fine example of similie, albeit an inaccurate one. Let me give you an example of a metaphor addressing the same two teams, and more accuracy: "The Atlanta Braves won many battles along their campaign against their Northern rival the Mets. However, other army companies to the West, such as the Cardinals and Astros always managed to win the War. In 2006, the Mets have won a majority of the battles, notching 5 victories to Atlanta's 4."

As a history major, both are interesting to me, so I'll be happy with baseball or civil war. Or maybe he can talk about the civil war with baseball metaphors, as in "Lincoln really hit a home run with his Gettysburg address following the Union's bottom of the ninth rally to win the battle." ;D

Graduation Speakers Announced explore.georgetown.edu/news/?ID=15429As rumored, Chief Justice Roberts will be speaking. However, not to undergrads, but the Law Center. The College looks to win out with Ken Burns as their speaker. SFS gets Honorable Richard Haass, President of the Council of Foreign Relations. MSB gets The Honorable Carlos M. Gutierrez, Secretary, United States Department of Commerce. NHS gets Brother Rick Curry, S.J. Founder and Artistic Director, National Theatre Workshop of the Handicapped.

My complements to the Ballroom Dance Company are as follows: 1) You didn't come early and reserve front row seats for late arriving members like Groove Theory did at the West Virginia game. 2) You had the guts to go out there in front of a lot of people and perform.
However, I agree with many on this board that there is no way in hell that this was the right venue for that performance. Everyone around me in the student section was confused at best. And let me tell you, I'm from NY and I'm a huge fan of that song. I have a girlfriend on the dance team and I was upset they were relegated to a timeout for a second straight game (and embarassed by the idiots of the MCI PA system who couldn't get their CD player to work). While the Ballroom Dance Company can go and perform at Arts Events, the Dance Team ONLY performs at sports related events. Whatever deficiencies you guys on this board might see in the Dance Team, I promise you that they work their tails off to perform at the games. I just hope that the Athletic Department will be more careful about brushing these girls aside in the future.
