Does anyone know who the speakers will be for this year's graduation? Paul Tagliabue is the convocation speaker, but the names of the graduation speakers still have not been released. I've heard some pretty much baseless speculation that Trump might be the MSB speaker, but nothing about the College, NHS, or SFS speakers.

I've heard a CJ Roberts rumor too. A delayed announcement could mean one of three things:
1) Need to hold off for security reasons (Secret Service etc.) 2) There was a last minute change of plans, so they need to buy time 3) Just delayed for no apparent reason

I would bet its primarily 3. Communications department just forgot to put out an anouncement on Friday.

It's #4 -- as in years past, the University doesn't announce speakers until the weekend (Fri-Mon) before commencement.

I heard from someone that Tags was sticking around for the College commencement. Dunno how true it is, but the source has never lied to me before (although I don't know where he would get it from).

Graduation Speakers Announced explore.georgetown.edu/news/?ID=15429As rumored, Chief Justice Roberts will be speaking. However, not to undergrads, but the Law Center. The College looks to win out with Ken Burns as their speaker. SFS gets Honorable Richard Haass, President of the Council of Foreign Relations. MSB gets The Honorable Carlos M. Gutierrez, Secretary, United States Department of Commerce. NHS gets Brother Rick Curry, S.J. Founder and Artistic Director, National Theatre Workshop of the Handicapped.

As a history major, both are interesting to me, so I'll be happy with baseball or civil war. Or maybe he can talk about the civil war with baseball metaphors, as in "Lincoln really hit a home run with his Gettysburg address following the Union's bottom of the ninth rally to win the battle." ;D

The Atlanta Braves - being America's team - remind me a lot of the Union - sure they took their lumps but it was always clear they were going to win.

Except that for every year but 1995, they get burnt down in the playoffs.

Yet another reason to get the MSF built: unified commencement.
Georgetown dropped this tradition in 1987 under the excuse that they no longer had enough room to seat everyone...and it was an excuse owing to the "PR image" of the University as graduates were shown with champagne corks- a-poppin' on the pages of the Washington Post.
A 4,500 seat MSF (plus 100 yards of field seating) would allow almost everyone who would want to attend a single ceremony that would be more appropriate then a two hour rotating schedule on Healy Lawn.
How about it?

How about it? It makes sense, but I still liked that my two ceremonies were under the clock tower of Healy. That being said, I assume that a unified ceremony would lead to a better chance of getting better speakers than what I was stuck with - I don't even remember my College graduation speaker.

Ummm... Did you learn the difference between similies and metaphors in the SFS St. Pete? You just showed a fine example of similie, albeit an inaccurate one. Let me give you an example of a metaphor addressing the same two teams, and more accuracy: "The Atlanta Braves won many battles along their campaign against their Northern rival the Mets. However, other army companies to the West, such as the Cardinals and Astros always managed to win the War. In 2006, the Mets have won a majority of the battles, notching 5 victories to Atlanta's 4."

To change the subject up a bit (because I don't think nyr320 and I are going to reach an accomodation on the Braves-Mets issue) - Haas is a pretty heavy hitter in IR theory right? Can someone who actually paid attention in Govt 006 or one of those classes tell me where he fits in ideologically? I think he's a neo-con but I'm not sure about that.

I think nyr's point relates to your use of simile instead of metaphor, not the error of both of your ways when it comes to rooting for baseball teams.
