The offense runs so much smoother with the Big E in the game.

There's really no point in investing any time (and certainly no money) in the program until Ewing and Ronnie are gone. Sadly, it is hard to see that happening until the end of the season. And astoundingly - I would say it is no better than 50/50 that it happens then. As others have said - if 0-20 doesn't get a coach/"GM" fired, what does? And would DeGioia hire a real coach, and give him full control of the program? Or would he hire someone from the Thompson "family" and just put a new coat of paint on the same junker basketball program we have been running for far too long. Like a fool - I'll keep watching the games, reading this site, following recruiting news, etc. It is tough to give up a 43 year old habit. But even those few of us left watching - I can't imagine more than a handful of the small number of remaining fans truly caring about the team until Ewing/Ronnie are gone. There is no point in caring. Watching the second half today - I felt no surprise, no frustration, etc. Just the same sad resignation I've been feeling during Hoya games for the past few seasons. In the past I have compared the Hoyas to the NY Giants - two teams whose leadership is so caught up in the tradition of the program that they continue to make bad leadership decisions, and to stick with what is known and comfortable even in the face of long term failure. I have felt the same resignation as I watch Giant games for the past decade that I have felt watching Hoya games these past two seasons. But Giant leadership finally woke up and made real change, bringing in leadership from outside the program that is fully empowered to re-make everything. Now watching the giants is fun for the first time in a decade, and I'll be hopeful about the future even if they don't win another game this season. So I'll hold out a sliver of hope that Georgetown leadership can make the same kind of decision, and bring in the kind of coach who can get us headed in the right direction. That sounds impossible right now, but that's what I thought about the Giants until this past off season. Another Giants’ fan here and I couldn’t have said it any better.

Did Riley start? If not he’s getting some early playing time.

Pivoting to the team we hope to see this fall -- is anyone else secretly -- or openly -- hoping and praying that PE and the coaches are seeing what the Celtics are doing, taking notes, and devising ways to run offenses and defenses like that? Listening to sports radio out of Boston today, the way they describe the Celtic defense is what we all would love to hear about our own Hoya defense: energized, intense, aggressive, quick, unrelenting. That wouldn't be far from how Big John would have described his defenses, don't you think? Just saying that this is NBA ball and that's what PE would like to see on the floor from his players. But it's not just run and gun -- the Celtics ran set plays regularly throughout these playoff games and everyone has known his role. (The sports guys did note that they --the Celts -- were not playing that way earlier in the year but has evolved into what we now see). Main point is that the team raised its game to elite NBA status when the defense brought it up a couple of notches. Of course, the offense can go, go go in transition but they definitely have set plays and know how to run them effectively. Wasn't Big John's philosophy in part to generate your offense out of a tough, gnarly defense? Well, look no further. Grab your notebooks, coaches, and watch how it's done. Hoya Saxa! Ewing is 59 years old and in his sixth season at GU, I don’t expect much changes. I may be an optimist but I have to disagree. I believe PE knows that next year’s team is his last chance to prove that he can be a head coach at any level. PE will make changes. How successful those changes will be is to be seen.

I really don't want to pile on Dante because I'm not in the business of personal attacks on a player, so please note that he's a great Hoya these are strictly basketball observations. In this magical 4 game run that so many of you are saying is more important than two entire seasons, it's worth noting that he didn't even play that well across each game. In the championship game, Dante was 0-5 from 3, shooting 4-14 overall for 10 points. He did grab an impressive 8 boards and a solid 5 assists. He played a great game against Seton Hall shooting 5-6 and dropping 15, but had only 1 assist and 2 turnovers. He also played very solidly against a shellshocked Villanova team missing its starting PG and leader. In the first round, though he was 2-10 from the field, scoring just 4 points and having only 2 assists. This four game stretch everyone obsesses over wasn't even four good games. It was two good games, one subpar one, and one awful one. And it was a group of total incompetents who awarded him the MOP trophy for two good games, one subpar one, and one awful one. If you bring this terrific analysis to their attention, they will likely strip him of that award and have you designate future winners of the MOP. I’m just curious. Who would you have picked as your MOP?

This has to be the best Defense we’ve played in the last 2 months.
