The new rule about having to sit a year for a second or greater transfer really hurt those that had previously declared (Spears). It may also have caught by surprise others that had declared (Anglin, Bass, Riley, and Wilson). Furthermore it severely hamstrings others who might be considering declaring (Murray, Heath, Ezewiro, Bristol, Wahab, Akok, Mutombo).
Based on the above my guess is the following will want to return: Murray Heath Ezewiro Bristol Wahab Akok Mutombo These seven, along with the 23 commitment, are what Cooley would be left with to start creating his team, leaving room for only five new players for next year. Of course he could pull one or more of these by telling them they would not see significant playing time if they stayed.

Georgetown used to be a coveted gig for coaches, but it no longer is. I don't understand how anyone would consider today's job at Georgetown to be superior to that of Providence or any other moderately successful program. Today we are at rock bottom and will have a stripped down roster which means starting in the pits. We are living in the fantasy of yesteryear.

If Cooley becomes our coach I will back him and the teams he has, but I will not get over the stench of stealing another BE coach.

If it's James Jones and Yale ends up just off the bubble will the announcement be tomorrow? James Jones might be the best pick for GU President. He is my prediction.

Hiring Mike Brey after he bottomed out at Notre Dame would be the ultimate admission that Notre Dame, not Georgetown, is the preeminent Catholic school in the country. I'm not saying that really should be a consideration in picking a men's basketball coach, but do we really want to do anything that publicly says "not good enough for Notre Dame is perfectly good enough for Georgetown"? If DeGioia is worried about sullying the the school's reputation by hiring Pitino, he certainly shouldn't shoot the school's reputation right in the head my admitting that our standards are lower than Notre Dame's. This is nonsense. Under DeGioia Georgetown has become anything but Catholic.

Never understood the Akok love. Elite shot blocker but little else other than an occasional three.
Not picking on Akok but part of a bigger picture on our roster. Based only on their on-court performance this year, I can't make a case for retention of any of our current players. Sad.

College of Charleston coach Pat Kelsey agreed to new contract extension through 2028. At least $5M total. $1M per year plus incentives.

Pitino is not truly a bold choice---he's a quick-fix to get back to on-court competitiveness.... The truly bold choice is one lichoya and I have been advocating: Dawn Staley. Not saying she'd take the job, nor am I saying JDG or Reed or the Board/donors have the cojones to offer it to her. But that would be as daring, if not more daring a choice, than Fr. Henle made in 1972..... This would be a very cool hire That would be an awful hire. Have any of you watched enough women's college basketball to see how very different it is from men's basketball ?

A non-zero possibility: Georgetown releases no statement nor other comment, effectively keeping the status quo.

Pat Kelsey's College of Charleston is now 26-3 in CAA. In a 22 point win yesterday over Elon, C of C sank 18 3's, had 20 assists on 29 made shots, and had 18 offensive rebounds. Not bad.

I am a Georgetown fan even if Ewing is back next year and even if there's a new coach I am not enthused about. I may not be happy but, God willing, I'll be back next year rooting for them. To me that's the nature of a fan.
I was trained for many years rooting for the Chicago Cubs.
