OK ….. since the 2022-23 mens basketball season is rapidly coming to an end I would like to read the predictions of fellow Georgetown fans so 2 months from now we can see who had the best instincts with regard to what will happen.
My questions are:
1. Will Ewing be back next season as head men’s basketball coach?
2. If Ewing is not back, then who do you predict will be the Georgetown coach next season?
——— 3. What if any relationship will Ronny have with the mens basketball next season? My thought is “no”, Ewing will not be back
I believe that Georgetown will take the safe route, not hire Pitino but will hire VCU’s Mike Rhodes
Note Rhodes is not my first choice but my prediction.
your thoughts?

Ewing will not be back next season. Neither will Ronny.
The Georgetown coach next season will be Mike Brey. I can’t say that I would love the choice, but it would certainly be a huge upgrade from what we’ve experienced under Ewing.
I think Pitino remains too bruised by scandal for the GU admin to stomach - as much for his admitted abortion payments than his various recruiting and program related scandals - and Cooley won’t jump from Providence. He’s killing it there and honestly, it’s not a big leap up from Providence to Georgetown anymore.
GU will make a comfortable choice in Brey. Uninspiring, but comfortable.

My best guess: Mike Brey Dark horses: Amir Abdul Rahim (Kennesaw St), Kimani Young (UConn), James Jones (Yale), Robert Jones (Norfolk St)
I think people are underestimating two things:
1.) Assistant coaches from P5 schools may be in the mix like Kimani Young; look at how well Tang has done at KSU this year.
2.) At the risk of starting debate or touching the third rail, I do believe there is a desire for a minority hire for this role. No one wants to talk about it, but I do believe it’s a real consideration.

My predictions are as follows:
1) Ewing out 2) Ronny stays 3) We hire a young black head coach who is OK with Ronny staying, which allows JD to say he's honoring JT2's legacy, cowtowing to JD's perception of what his primary stakeholders desire
Is there any way to amend the original question to include whether Ronny stays or goes as well? As has been discussed by many, firing Ewing is easy (besides the buyout money), but JD moving on from the Thompson family will be much more difficult for him.

This scenario is sadly 10x more likely than Pitino.

My sentiments as well, but they reflect a justifiable cynicism about the program. I’m kind of upset no one thinks Matt Langel will get the job, with Ronnie staying as the “price” of not hiring a blacks coach.

I actually hope that we don't hire a AA coach this time. I feel like GTown really needs to get out of this "we can only hire a AA coach" belief. Whether it's real or fake, fact or fiction, it seems that GTown isn't viewed as a true P5 bball school. I also feel like some non-AA ballers don't really consider GTown because they look at it almost like a HBCU. I don't know why but I have never felt like we could successfully recruit a 5*/high 4* non-AA baller.

For better or worse, there has been a cultural identity tied to this program since JTII (I mean we wear Kente jerseys!) that I think remains important in JDG’s mind. I don’t think it’s the only criteria, but I do think it could be a tiebreaker if all things are equal. And another reason why a 70 year old white guy, with his own personal baggage is not in the cards here.
