I can’t imagine this being popular in Alexandria. Folks who live there already lived close to Cap One Arena a short metro ride or 15 minute car or Uber ride This will add significant traffic to an area already with heavy traffic, and drive retail entertainment away from current businesses in old town and south. This may not be as easy as Ted thinks.

Barry Svrluga-Wash Post Monica Dixon, Monumental's president of external affairs and chief administrative officer, told me in an interview late this morning that MSE believes it can fill at least 100 dates annually at Capital One Arena. The plan would be to continue to host Georgetown men's basketball games, move the Mystics from the Entertainment and Sports Arena in Southeast, and line up both concerts and conventions. One point Dixon made is that because Capital One Arena has to hold dates for the Capitals and the Wizards -- and those schedules don't get released until very late -- they actually have to block off more nights than they end up using. The fallout is they can't book things two years in advance. Now they'll be able to. But the arena is currently booked for roughly 200 nights a year, so even if they get to more than 100, that's potentially a huge dropoff. www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2023/12/13/capitals-wizards-virginia/

You are right and I am wrong. For some reason I thought they went to Georgetown Prep. Anyways, I hope Rooths follows in the footsteps of Roy and Markel. I am a Prep grad so definitely hoping he winds up a Hoya

Lic is one of three Hoya talk members, whom I have met in person, so special prayers to Bill. Yeah, while I'm pretty sure I've only ever had like 2 or 3 conversations with the guy, he's been such a comforting fixture at so many Hoya events that it simply would not be the same without him. Here's hoping we've got many more years of shared MEANERY ahead of us. I too was lucky to meet him. Great guy and prayers from all of us!

I have considered this possibility myself. Like a one year salary cap expansion so-to-speak ☺ I thought I read that they had waived the limit for seniors that return next year. I can't find that now though. That would mean that we go up to 14 if Jamorko comes back for example. 15 if Jamorko and Blair come back. And so on. I don't know how that applies to Carey since I don't know how they define senior. My guess is that it doesn't apply to him.

I hope the UT experts are correct. Although I cannot recall a time when PE and Dikembe were teammates! 1997 All-Star game. Might have been a few “friendlies” in McDonough too..

His lift on his jumper looks fine to me. A lot of the best shooters from distance don't really jump very high at all. When your 6'9 how much lift do you really need. It's not like Markus Howard or somebody. Personally I think 32% from 3 as a junior in HS is pretty solid for a kid his size and bodes well for the future. Agree about his motor. Needs to play harder and with more toughness but I think he understands that based on his comments in the video. What would be your level of excitement if he becomes a Hoya?

I know exactly what's going on, but I'm not allowed to discuss it here. You'll be hearing more from the university tomorrow. Best if we lock this thread and end speculation. 1-2-3 transferballs So a third transfer?

from an email today from the coach
To the Hoya Football Family,
I hope you are having a great summer. I am extremely excited to share with you that I have accepted a five-year contract extension. Thank you to President DeGioia and our Athletic Director Lee Reed for the opportunity to continue this journey with our program. I have appreciated all of their support over the past five seasons and am extremely excited for the next five.
Nice to have continued stability and a chance to build on last year

You may also want to be strategic about which school she applies too. They are all crazy difficult, but have some differences. Students can move from school to school once enrolled.

Interesting discussion IMO... It occurred to me to wonder how basketball players differ from medical students. Both get paid little or nothing more than room and board (if on a scholarship), both are being trained to make a living in a selective and highly a demanding profession, both are being trained by expert professionals who get high salaries, both produce a service that provides a the backbone of a profit for their overall department. Obviously there are differences in the specifics and levels of money and ways that money is earned, but at the base the similarities are there. It seems to me that attending college and pursuing training for a professional sport is akin to an apprenticeship. You put in your time getting low level compensation while getting trained by experts in the hopes that you can later succeed in a lucrative profession. Hopefully the NBA does away with their barriers to entry for young players and everyone can then freely choose what is right for their situation. At that point your choice determines your fate. the big difference of course is that medical students have essentially 100% life-time employment in their profession-very very different scenario for NCAA athletes

www.usab.com/news-events/news/2019/03/cole-anthony-feature.aspx“We — me and my family — just want to see which college players are staying, who might have been thinking about declaring (for the NBA Draft),” the 18-year-old Anthony said of his prospective choices. “We want to be 100 percent sure I am able to join a team and contend for the Final Four immediately, if I’m lucky enough to be starting and I put in the work.” Unfortunately I think we know what this means.
