20 pt lead...so the silly strip and 5-0 run by Harvard was inevitable to cut into that? Lets put this game away!

awesome find underneath the basket from up top of the key. then on the miss by harvard austin leads a controlled (!) fast break ...draws his man in and passes off to chris for the layin.

best sequence so far on 11 - 0 run. hustle by monroe on loose ball (tallest guy gets to floor first) and gets a time out. rebound by monroe for putback. block on other end. outlet pass way out to freeman, who gives it back and then receives the ball back as he settles in the corner for a three. offensive charge by harvard. chris gets on foul line. even monroe loses it on post move but hustles and steals it from behind from harvard as they race up the court. on next possesion wright goes for steal and on the resulting loose ball hoya (clark?) dives into the stands. harvard gets ball back but we give no open looks for the last 17 seconds of half. we need more of this and more consistently.

I still remember a block of his last year...it was in transition and he hustled from behind and flew over the player on what looked like a lay in and blocked it waaay up high...his explosiveness is exciting.

Good results so far by Big East teams - as of this moment none have lost a game (come on Providence!).
Looking ahead at Big East team schedules before league play, looks like a lot of teams should remain unbeaten. Part of that is schedules that are soft (pitt) but there will be some interesting games to help that conference showing such as Cuse at Florida, Marquette at Wisconsin and of course our games. I have less hope for St. Johns at Duke given their three pt win vs Brown today. But we should see what kind of team Temple is as they face VTech, St. Johns, Villanova and Seton Hall.
Back to the 'Cuse game - they would be a tough matchup for us currently given their clear skill/hustle at rebounding and bigs. However, good ball movement (hope Monroe passes better and sets up our outside shooters better than UNC's guards did) and good outside shooting a la last yr (and hopefully a streaky Wes Johnson) would keep Hoyas in the game....

Washington put up 111. Hope whoever guards Pondexter on the Hoyas does a better job than Portland State did (PS was outrebounded 43-13).

As a former swimmer it would not be nice to see the team go, but that is the direction schools are going. They have already cut down the team size, but have taken positive steps in regards to recruiting/coaching.
But as the previous poster said, a sport such as football requires more than a sport such as swimming (money, admission-wise, facilities) and the profile is greater. Which is I agree a double-edged sword. I respect former football player's DeGioa's interest in making football relevant...it is just getting seemingly increasingly harder to get there.

Sorry - I did mean Owens. Agreed it would not be good to extrapolate too much from Kenner. As a team I still see this as an important area for improvement - our outside shooting in a Princeton offense (especially with Summers gone) would benefit from stronger consistency/depth/timeliness - well that, and rebounding of course.

Clark looked good when he needed to take threes this summer - Wright still looks that isnt his shot (how did he win the Mcdonalds 3pt contest?). I agree we struggled with this more than we should, and the capability/consistancy of an Ashanti, Bowman, Green, Wallace, Riley etc all having respectable strokes/precentages really added an element to the Princeton that this team so far lacks. But, as others have said, good execution of their current strengths could make up for this.

I suppose you could argue that we should see come regular season how he plays - also may be be good to have him and Sims (since they have been playing w/ each other) providing offense off the bench if Vaughn starts with Greg. I'm sure (I hope) he will get his minutes...

Thanks for the recap.
It is interesting to see the numbers after the game, but from an impression standpoint JC blew everyone else out of the water. He was setting up his teammates well, looking to give Sims the ball where he could do something with it, using his fourth gear, and had some great steals. His perimeter shots look good too. Moreover, everyone looked excited to play with him as he really shares the ball, and (at least us Hoya fans) were in anticipation as to what he would do next - blow by, defensive play, etc. That rebound he stole from running from the perimeter all the way underneath the hoop was impressive - and hard to believe that his abilities/effort won't translate during the season if they are exhibited during summer league. In short, whereas we all wanted him to come back with a tighter handle, he seems to have raised us and showed us a lot more - we'll hope he brings it Big East time naturally with more seasoning. Wright, on the other hand, had no assists the entire game and plenty of turnovers (listed as five), some of the "pass to a person who isn't within ten feet variety". Just thinks he got caught without a clear idea of where the play is going to develop, whereas JC had everyone on the same page. I liked Sims' activity - at least he was agressive and tried out different moves - which looked fluid despite some rimming out.
Having watched Beasley and Durant in Kenner League, it is amazing to see how fluid each's game is, pulling up from NBA range with ease to knock down three pointers, or finishing around the rim. Then again, those are some unique 6'10" guys even for the NBA...

Also liked how the interview w/Pops started:
Following praise from Boo Williams, watching clips on Zo in HS, and Zo recounting swatting 27 shots in one game:
"Coach, why did you want Alonzo at Georgetown?"
Stare. "What, are you stupid?"

Haha they can cut some of the colorful language from Pops It is too bad they have to cut some things out, entertaining all around and glad I was there for the full event. The showed a clip of Zo teaching the young team yesterday a thing or too about being strong in the post - let's hope they took something away. Reilly certainly loved pointing out he beat Zo up the Excorcist stairs...
