So apparently Aminu was brought to the post game press conference. So is the "Freshman don't talk to the media during their 1st semester" rule that people have been whining about for probably 50 years officially gone?

It's going to take a little while to remember what a "normal" college basketball season feels like, but mocking the ACC feels much more like it.

Question for the board, and I'm sorry if this isn't the place to ask but I didn't see this fitting into any other thread (happy to delete or move): I completed the form requesting tickets for the Dartmouth game and have yet to be contacted. Just wondering if I've fallen through the cracks or if they have yet to give anyone a response. Has anyone else heard anything about the tickets offered for the opener? If you are a season ticket holder, you might want to log in to your My Hoyas account and click on "Manage Tickets". The tickets you requested for Dartmouth may already be there. I never got a response as to whether I got tickets for that game either, but I checked, and the tickets were there. Also, it is a bit of a hassle to get tickets on your phone this year since it doesn't look like the Georgetown Gameday app is working properly anymore. The ticket office told me to go to wearegeorgetown.com/myhoyas through the internet on my phone, log in, then go to "Manage Tickets" again, and click on each individual game, then save them to your phone through Apple Wallet or something similar. It's not ideal, but I think it's the only way to do it right now.

Hard to believe college basketball with actual fans is back after a year and a half. I know the sport takes whatever timeslots the networks dictate, but it's a bit mind-boggling to see #2 UCLA vs. #4 Villanova buried at 11:30pm eastern on a Friday night on ESPN2. Why bother to schedule a game like that if you don't want people to watch? ESPN2's schedule that evening: Cincinnati at South Florida (college football) at 6:00 pm, followed by United States vs. Mexico men's soccer match in Cincinnati OH at 9:00 pm. We on the East Coast tend to forget that there are an awful lot of eyeballs not on Eastern Standard Time (when that game is played). Sure, but there are other nights of the week, and the non-conference portion of the season last about two months. For example, on Thursday (the night before), ESPN2 is showing the G League and UFC Fight Night Flashbacks. These are two top five teams (for now). That doesn't happen very often. If Villanova is going to fly all the way out there, they can't do better than 11:30 eastern on a Friday night? Seems like malpractice in terms of selling your sport.

This is probably way too late to save the Big 12 from its harm, but a lawsuit against ESPN would definitely be interesting.

Does this sound familiar?
“I’m not surprised by Texas, but I’m really disappointed by the way OU has handled this,” the second Big 12 AD said. “They’ve participated in all our meetings without saying a single word.
“I think this has been going on for six months — at a minimum of probably three months, and ESPN has been right in the middle of it.”

The only way this really affects us is if four super conferences break off and form their own NCAA in all sports. I can't believe anyone will be desperate enough to poach UConn football. But ESPN is going to push the SEC like they are the NFL when they take over the whole package and add Texas and Oklahoma. Everyone with the possible exception of the Big Ten is going to be treated like 9th class citizens. It's hard to believe that this could be come more of an issue than it already is, but college football is going to be a really, really, really regional sport now. Clemson's not going away as a national power as long as Dabo is there. As for this proposal, I say bleah, and I hope it doesn't happen. Clemson will keep an easy walk into any kind of playoff system. But in terms of national (and especially ESPN's) attention in the regular season, the ACC is going to fall further behind. Financially, the SEC and the Big 10 are really going to dwarf the others. The SEC will make a massive amount of money here, and the Big 10's deal is up in a couple of years. They'll get a big increase too. The ACC is locked into their deal with ESPN until 2036, and they already make less money. Everyone else is going to be at a serious disadvantage.

has anyone heard anything about season tickets for the upcoming season? I can't remember if I renewed for the canceled COVID season, but I haven't heard a word from the athletics department about renewing - or about anything, in fact. The last thing I heard was sometime around last January when they told us there would be no fans for the rest of last season. Haven't heard a thing since, and obviously there is a lot that goes into getting fans back, especially since this damn thing still isn't over yet.

I've heard nothing about Georgetown's thinking on this, but could they require proof of vaccination or a recent negative test to attend games at Capital One this year if they wanted to? Or does the arena itself have to set the policy? I don't believe any were required for the last few Wizards games with fans this season. Does anyone know the logistics or the legalities here? Obviously, I'm all for it, but I don't know if it is realistic or not.

If we played our games in an on campus arena, the scheduling/ticket news would come quickly. We play in a pro arena, so our scheduling has to work around all the other events. I haven't even gotten an email asking if I want to renew my season tickets. They used to send that out right after the previous season ended.

We are going to hear about season tickets at some point, right? Would have thought there would be some kind of plan announced by now.

Already have and I don't like what I imagine. Essentially the Georgetown Career Center against Giant State School X's NIL Coordinator? Come to Columbus and we'll plaster your face on every auto dealership in Ohio! Come to South Beach and pocket an appearance fee at every club in Miami! Come to Austin and sell your jersey across our entire fan base! We lose in unfettered NIL compensation. We haven't exactly been winning in the recent pre NIL era. All the schools you mentioned have been paying players for decades. We can also easily hire an NIL coordinator if we want to. It's not exactly going to be a high paying job. If the local businesses don't see the value in using our players in advertisements then maybe that's on the school. You think it Pat or Zo or AI the player were here we couldn't line up the same deals? We certainly may be at a disadvantage but it's a self inflicted one that has been a long time in the making. Didn't we sign a deal a couple of years ago partnering with Fox Sports for the marketing of our "brand"? If that's still in effect, are they going to be allowed to line up/facilitate endorsements for individual players too? I guess we're all flying a little blind here.

Feel free to move this into the Pro and College Sports section that most people skip, but obviously this is a big change for college basketball. Krzyzewski will have one more season with one and dones, and then Jon Scheyer will have to replace the legend while having to build a team from scratch. That won't be easy. Duke may never be "Duke" again.

If DePaul ever stops shooting themselves in the foot, they could be dangerous. They have all the resources to be. Not sure how much this will affect us in recruiting the DC area. www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2021/05/23/maryland-assistant-bino-ranson-leaving-program/“He’s really kind of separated himself as a great recruiter, especially in the last few years,” Turgeon said of Ranson during the 2020-21 season. “Some of the best players we’ve signed, Bino’s been involved.”

I think it is great that they are coming up with all kinds of pro leagues for these kids to make money and still keep their dreams of making it to the NBA. The kids need to have as many options as possible and when it is all said and done the ultimate goal is for a person is to get a job that you would enjoy doing. So if these kids can land in Kevin Ollie's league, the G-league, overseas league, or the NBA league more power to them. This should be the first test to see if the school brand and attached fan base is the big draw for college basketball compared to the not best in the world talent. I would submit that the G League and Kevin Ollie league are going to quickly realize that nobody will be watching them. And if nobody watches them I don’t see how it’s a viable business model. I didn’t watch one game of the G league ignite team this season, did you? Outside of pure gambling, all sports require some kind of personal connection and rooting interest: your city, state, region, school, something. A "Future Stars of Basketball" exhibition tour will never draw enough money to pay back those expenses unless you can get enough people to care about the outcomes of the games. I'm not even sure a "Current Stars" exhibition series would work for very long in any sport. It just misses the whole point. We'll see, I guess.

This looks like the biggest finals mismatch since UNLV destroyed Duke. It's men against boys so far.

Now that we have a definitive answer as to "what would happen if a big school got caught blatantly cheating?", how do we go back to even pretending that there are rules that can be enforced?
