Feel free to move this into the Pro and College Sports section that most people skip, but obviously this is a big change for college basketball. Krzyzewski will have one more season with one and dones, and then Jon Scheyer will have to replace the legend while having to build a team from scratch. That won't be easy. Duke may never be "Duke" again.

Back to the cereal box for this monstrous hypocrite.

It's a good, good day. I certainly respect what he's achieved, but can't say I'm sad about the announcement.

With Roy Williams and now Coach K both leaving college basketball, those two "blue blood" programs become much less "blue". There is an opportunity for some other programs to raise their profiles and compete for some high level players who always seemed destined to go to those two schools.

Scheyer can keep it going but he will have about 2-3yrs to prove that he can coach. Also the '23 class will probably take a hit because even if he was the lead recruiter, those kids were wanting to play for Coach K....

Yeah, him too. But Ferry was the actual pipeline and he also put Duke on the map which made kids from all over (not just DMV) want to choose Duke.

They couldn't handle COVID season or the new Transfer Portal.

I wonder if they will go Grant Hill. Everyone is copying our hire of Coach Ewing with the former NBA player.

Also it was a bad look not doing that great with a team with the two top picks in the Zion team that could barely beat UCF(with ref help imo) then get knocked before the final 4

With Roy Williams and now Coach K both leaving college basketball, those two "blue blood" programs become much less "blue". There is an opportunity for some other programs to raise their profiles and compete for some high level players who always seemed destined to go to those two schools. The timing makes sense--he's 74, health has been up and down, he has nothing left to prove. Oh, and that Carolina coach down the road has left too and probably told Mike he's doing just fine. That said, Kryzyewski's stayed out of the line of fire over the Zion Williamson investigation which could really bring down the program, has seen his talent pool dwindling (13-11 in 2020-21) and like many coaches is openly irritated about the massive turnover of rosters and the mentality of the AAU generation. Much like John Thompson (who specifically did not want a victory lap before he retired), Krzyzewski leaves on his own terms and gets to choose his successor, saving Villanova fans months of pointless speculation on ESPN why Jay Wright would be a great fit there. It was said that Duke won't be "Duke" anymore, much like Georgetown isn't "Georgetown" anymore. True, perhaps. Some schools can institutionally reload at head coach (Kansas, UNC, Kentucky, Villanova) and some never did (Indiana, NC State, UNLV). But Duke had its share of good coaches before Krzyzewski (Bill Foster the most recent) and can again--because this isn't the next Boston College or Pitt. If Duke goes back to being the 5th or 6th seed in the ACC Tournament, it's not the end of the world. And to state the obvious: time waits for no ACC coach. Mike Brey, Notre Dame: 62 Jim Larranaga, Miami: 71 Leonard Hamilton, Florida State: 72 Mike Krzyzewski, Duke: 74 Jim Boeheim, Syracuse: 76

I wonder if he stays around (like Coach Thompson), to ease the minds of future recruits?

Duke and UNC (particularly UNC) were strong programs prior to the arrivals of Coaches K and Roy. I know there was a gap between he and Roy, but UNC had this guy named Smith who did pretty well there, and UNC also won a national championship in the 1950's with the team that beat Wilt's Kansas team. And I think Vic Bubas got Duke to the finals a couple of times, once against the Hazzard Goodrich UCLA team. So it's certainly possible that Duke and UNC will have continued success, but I do doubt that Duke has the same level of success that it had under K.

The most overrated coach in college basketball! No coach has done less with so much!
