I think its pretty clear that tomorrow's game will be the biggest in the history of the USF program. Win and they're probably in the tournament, lose and they may well be out. Yeah, because ESPN, as expected, only really talks about their own bubble/bracketology, people forget how close USF really is. In many other brackets, they are right there and two wins over Gtown, Pitt and 11 Big East wins would be hard to deny. We better come to play. Agree that USF is going to be hungry, but we still have to want it more than them. And by "it" I'm collectively referring to (in no particular order): - the ability to prove that this team can play with focus and intensity for the full 40 minutes of every game
- the opportunity to play (and beat) Cuse a third time
- the opportunity to advance and win an 8th BET championship
- the opportunity to get a better seeding in the NCAAs
- revenge for Feb 3

USF-DePaul Post Game Quote Transcript:www.bigeast.org/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=92555&SPID=11228&DB_OEM_ID=19400&ATCLID=204904862Georgetown-relevant Q&A from Transcript: Q. So only hitting one shot out of the paint the whole game, do you look at that as a positive? Do you think it might be a little different against (Greg) Monroe tomorrow? COACH STAN HEATH: It will be totally different. We'll have to knock down some shots. We'll be able to do that. It didn't happen today. If we would have lost, it would be a big deal. Since we won, it's not a big deal. ------ Q. Can you talk about tomorrow and the challenges of playing Georgetown, trying to beat them again. COACH STAN HEATH: They're really good. Now that ‑‑ thankfully, (Austin) Freeman seems like he's back being able to play at the high level he's capable of playing at. They had a terrific season. They have a few of the best players I think in the league. Their starting five can compete with anybody. They've beaten the top teams in the country. And we were very fortunate. We played well at Georgetown. Especially in the second half. Dominique had a phenomenal game. I'm sure they'll make some adjustments against him. But they'll be ready. We'll be ready as well. We've got to do a good job of taking away their back‑door cuts and as well as Monroe. Monroe is a hard guy to deal with. Fortunately I think this time around we do have more bodies available to play with them inside. So hopefully that will help us, too. Q. Dominique and Mike, last time you guys played Georgetown that got you on the map. Have you regained some of that confidence you had in that last game? MIKE MERCER: Yeah, definitely. I feel like we've gained confidence since then. That was a time we had our chemistry flowing and we were hitting on all cylinders. We played a really good game. Georgetown was a tough environment. They're going to be pumped for us tomorrow. We're going to be pumped, also. We're going to be ready to play. Q. Mike, having Gus (Gilchrist) as part of the lineup, you didn't have him for the first time. MIKE MERCER: That's big. Gus demands a lot of attention on the offensive end. I'm a slasher, I like to cut in the lane. Every time my man looks to Gus to score, I can get in there and get my shots off. The same with Dominique Jones. They both demand so much attention. It makes it easier for players like me and Chris Howard to score. ------ Q. First Georgetown game, what did you guys do in that second half that allowed you to do what you guys did up there? DOMINIQUE JONES: I mean, I think the team feeds off what I do positively and negatively. And I think that I turned it up and then when I turned it up, everybody else turned it up. I think that passed the message to us that we've got to play with high energy out there. We have to get steals, deflections. We have to get out in transition. You know, and that's something we're going to try to do tomorrow for sure.

Do you think we could see Vee matchup against Jones when Jason is getting some rest? Vee of course wasn't really part of the rotation when we played them in early Feb, but think he could definitely serve as a good, harrassing defender in spurts to attempt to frustrate Jones.

Recap from the 1st matchup, just in case Hoya fans need a reminder: WASHINGTON (AP)—With a minute to play in perhaps the biggest win in South Florida history, the star player bellowed to the Georgetown crowd: “Y’all come watch Dominique Jones play!”
When the horn sounded, Jones flexed his muscles, extolled the virtues of his school to anyone within earshot and told the school’s radio crew his “heart was beating too fast” with excitement to do a postgame interview.rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/recap?gid=201002030229

At least USF is having to work for the game (my observation based purely on boxscore tracking - curse workplace firewalls!)

From ACC to WAC: Breaking down the conference tournamentsBy Andy Glockner SI.com Big EastTuesday, March 9-Saturday, March 13 (Madison Square Garden, New York, N.Y.) The pick: Syracuse, the regular-season conference champ that rolled to a 15-3 league mark and is the best team in the conference. The Orange can't see Louisville, which swept them, until the title game. A quarterfinal against Georgetown could be sticky, but a potential semi against Villanova is a huge personnel mismatch (as seen in the game at Syracuse two weeks ago). Darkhorse: Georgetown is talented enough to win the event, but inconsistent enough to lose to South Florida in its first game should the Bulls handle DePaul as expected. Deep sleeper(s): As disappointing as UConn has been, the Huskies have a very manageable draw to make a run. They get the host Red Storm first, then a Marquette team that's solid but lacks size. UConn should have beaten the Golden Eagles in Storrs. Get past that round and Villanova, a team UConn beat on the road, could be next. Also watch Seton Hall, which should handle Providence and then would get Notre Dame and potentially Pitt, both of which the Pirates beat this season in New Jersey. Player(s) to watch: South Florida's Dominique Jones could be the key that unlocks the NCAA tournament for the Bulls. Also watch for how Georgetown's Austin Freeman continues to come back from his health issues and which Samardo Samuels shows up for Louisville. Bubble/bracket games of note: The likely 8-9 game Wednesday between South Florida and Georgetown is huge for the Bulls. The pending 7-10 game between Seton Hall and Notre Dame could be a "win-and-in" for both teams and leave the loser in very precarious shape. Syracuse appears locked in as a No. 1 seed for the NCAAs. Can West Virginia join the Orange with a Big East tournament title? Villanova is still fighting to stay on the 2-seed line. sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/writers/andy_glockner/03/08/conference.tourney.primer/index.html?section=si_latest

With No Seniors, Hoyas Look to Clinch Big East ByeThe Hoya Paranoia (Hoya Blog) Thompson added that the whole team’s health is better than it has been in weeks.
“We went through a tough stretch between colds and flus. Over half the team was sick,” Thompson said. “That’s not in any way, shape or form an excuse, but it’s the reality. We’ve been fighting through for 10 days or so. At this point, we’re as healthy as we’ve been in a couple of weeks.” blogs.thehoya.com/paranoia/?p=2337&preview=true

Based on the title, I thought that this thread was actually going to be a comment about the discovery in the WaPo article that Austin's dad is Austin Freeman III ! Not only is that cool in the symmetry with JTIII, but that would presumably mean #15 (and #1 in our hearts) is actually Austin Freeman IV, which opens a whole host of new potential nicknames for Austin...

Am I correct to understand that tonight's developments mean our potential range of finish is anywhere from 6th to 9th place?
If Marquette can defeat Louisville, yes.--Admin

Well, what happens if half of our team is hospitalized from Freemans virus and we have a starting 5 of Jason, Henry, Benimon, Chris, Hollis? With two walk-ons for the bench? I mean, its possible isn't it if Greg, Julian, and Vee have all been contaminated? What happens then oh wise one? Not looking to speculate on illness or injury, but I missed the first 10 minutes or so of the game, so was wondering if it was mentioned early in the broadcast which Hoyas were also suffering from some of the effects of the virus (just wondering why you think Greg, Julian and Vee are sick also).
