A 7% chance of winning the BET -- even with Pitt and the best of the 5-8 seeds -- sounds about right. Actually, it sound pretty generous, given our lack of consistency.

Wish Vegas had those odds for the Hoyas... No question. Vegas has us with the fifth best odds at +800. Syracuse the favorite at +195, folled by WVU +370, Nova +425, and Pitt +535. Louisville (+1000), ND (+1200), and Marguette (+1500) all have worse odds.

Interesting article about institutional support. “I think there’s no mystery to why Georgetown, Villanova and Marquette have had success,” said Dan Gavitt, the Big East associate commissioner for basketball. “Part is investment. The other part is an institutionwide commitment to being good in men’s basketball.” www.nytimes.com/2010/03/09/sports/ncaabasketball/09bigeast.html

From ACC to WAC: Breaking down the conference tournamentsBy Andy Glockner SI.com Big EastTuesday, March 9-Saturday, March 13 (Madison Square Garden, New York, N.Y.) The pick: Syracuse, the regular-season conference champ that rolled to a 15-3 league mark and is the best team in the conference. The Orange can't see Louisville, which swept them, until the title game. A quarterfinal against Georgetown could be sticky, but a potential semi against Villanova is a huge personnel mismatch (as seen in the game at Syracuse two weeks ago). Darkhorse: Georgetown is talented enough to win the event, but inconsistent enough to lose to South Florida in its first game should the Bulls handle DePaul as expected. Deep sleeper(s): As disappointing as UConn has been, the Huskies have a very manageable draw to make a run. They get the host Red Storm first, then a Marquette team that's solid but lacks size. UConn should have beaten the Golden Eagles in Storrs. Get past that round and Villanova, a team UConn beat on the road, could be next. Also watch Seton Hall, which should handle Providence and then would get Notre Dame and potentially Pitt, both of which the Pirates beat this season in New Jersey. Player(s) to watch: South Florida's Dominique Jones could be the key that unlocks the NCAA tournament for the Bulls. Also watch for how Georgetown's Austin Freeman continues to come back from his health issues and which Samardo Samuels shows up for Louisville. Bubble/bracket games of note: The likely 8-9 game Wednesday between South Florida and Georgetown is huge for the Bulls. The pending 7-10 game between Seton Hall and Notre Dame could be a "win-and-in" for both teams and leave the loser in very precarious shape. Syracuse appears locked in as a No. 1 seed for the NCAAs. Can West Virginia join the Orange with a Big East tournament title? Villanova is still fighting to stay on the 2-seed line. sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/writers/andy_glockner/03/08/conference.tourney.primer/index.html?section=si_latest

Tony's posted some stuff about the Big East Tournament over at Hoya Hoops. There's a rundown of Big East Tournament Records and Firsts that the Hoyas claim. It's a long list. Christmas in March

He may be right but considering the source... Boeheim points to another factor.
“I think wherever you are and whoever you are, you have to have facilities,” he said. “I think that’s something that’s important. Obviously Louisville is investing and Marquette has and we have. Obviously Pitt has. New facilities help.”
