Gtown, Nova, Xavier and then a fourth like St. Johns need to show up in early OOC games. That will carry forward through the rest of the year if we get big wins early (Like Nova last year who was on no ones radar and got a 2 seed). That's pretty much how JT3 put together that streak of being ranked in the top 10 despite never seeming to be ranked in the offseason--out perform against good teams out of conference, then do well in conference.

I don't think it's an excuse, I think it's the truth. No easy majors that we can steer our basketball players into within the SFS. As a former CULP (Culture and Politics) major, I find the idea that SFS doesn't have easy majors laughable. Passing a language proficiency test is no joke from what I understand.

If ND beats FSU, would you then have them winning out (and presumably making the playoff)? Rest of the schedule would seem very beatable (@navy, @asu, Northwestern, L'Ville, @usc)

In this day and age, where virtually no stars stay past their junior year, cannot imagine anyone will pass Sleepy. And that is fine with me! One of my favorites. Speaking of the old timers..I always felt that Duren would have been a very good pro, if not for his injury early in his career..but i digress. If anyone is going to do it, it's probably DSR, but I wouldn't say its very likely. He'd have to average 720 points a season (about 21-24 ppg) this year and next. To put that in context, he'd basically have to match Sweetney's scoring as a junior for two more years. Iverson (926 pts in 1996) and Reggie Williams (802 pts in 1987) are the only two other Hoyas to crack 700 points in a season. Of course, if Iverson had stayed until his junior year, he'd likely have broken Sleepy's record.

Have we acquired support for the head banging against wall emoticon yet? Sigh. Also, can Nats' hitters be allowed to swing at first pitch strikes? I didn't follow the Nats that closely, but putting aside their record (ie the argument that "the Nats won, therefore the manager is good"), was there anything Williams did particularly well this year running the team? I know he had the whole bruhaha with benching Harper, which seemed counterproductive, and he obviously had a lot of issues managing the bullpen in the playoffs. Was he particularly good about getting young guys time / platooning / not overusing bunts / etc?

It's not about the Giants. Or the Cardinals. It's about small sample sizes and the need to make an inability to perform in a small sample size about the moral failings (or moral superiority) of players / organizations.
It's the same vein as the BS about the "Twins Way" that we got when the Twins were good.

If the Giants were "clutch", why do they miss the playoffs in odd years? I believe 2011 was the year Buster Posey blew out his knee when a guy ran him over at the plate. I can't really explain what happened last year(76-86), maybe that was just a fluke. But the 10 straight postseason wins, 6 straight postseason road wins and being the only team to lose the first 2 games of a 5-game at home, and then winning the next 3 on the road at Cincinnati is clutch to me. If they are so clutch as an organization, why did they lose those two games to Cincinnati? Was it so they could be extra clutch in the next three games?

Greg started every game as a freshman, Austin started 23/34 games as a freshman and Summers started 34/37. Heck, Nikita started 9 games as a freshman. JT3is willing to start freshman.

Any connection to LJ Peak besides being from SC? Mack was AAU teammate of PJ Dozier... Mack's a wing (2/3) right? Greg Whittington / Aaron Bowen type where its possible he could play shooting guard, but he's more likely to be a small forward? (Not meant to compare games, but merely to get an idea of where he'd play).

Between his freshman and sophomore year, DSR played 10 more minutes per game, increased his usage from 19.9% to 23.9%, was one of only two players defenses bothered to focus on, and his ORating jumped from 104.2 to 120.5 (only Austin Freeman as a junior had a higher ORating, and his usage rate was lower), his eFG% jumped from 48.9% to 52.7% and his FG%, 3PT% and FT% all increased (as did his free throw rate). He is now in better shape than last year and defenses won't be able to concentrate solely on him. He is going to wreck college basketball this year. My mushy brain was starting to hurt reading the numbers but the closing snapped me back to reality. C'mon November!! Non-numerical version: Last year, DSR played as well as Austin did as a junior, only rather than his team getting worse (like Austin's did b/w his junior and senior year), his team is getting better. Also, DSR didn't get diabetes, as far as I know, but instead got into much better shape.

I don't know. I kind of feel like we should let them have this, since we got the much more important title in 1984

I don't understand why people think Georgetown is so challenging for the basketball players. Has anyone else not seen what little work needs to be done by them to pass? I was friends with a good portion of the team during my years there and I could rattle off so many stories as to what little effort they had to put in, which is why to me Smith and Whittington must have just not been attending class to fail. I don't think any recruit chooses not to go to Georgetown, because they think the classes will be too difficult. Heck, I can think of some classes I took / my friends took that were ridiculously easy, if all you wanted to do was pass them

Cal may be Ivan's quickest route to the league because he would instantly be there best player. Can't say the same about Gtown with DSR, Ike, and Peak on the roster. Hasn't hurt the Kentucky big men recruits very much to play with a lot of other really good players

When did Penn State and Nebraska join the Big Ten? Yeah, I was excited to see what Jerry Kill could do to build on a reasonably successful season, but nothing like getting destroyed by a middle tier Big 12 program to remind me that these are the Minnesota Golden Gophers we're talking about.

That is not entirely fair. William Bedford's coke dealer made it huge thanks to Memphis. Memphis produced Lorenzo Wright(RIP), Earl Barron, Joey Dorsey actually signed with Rockets this season, Keith Lee( greatest big to play at Memphis). The only person on this list I've heard of is Joey Dorsey--did any of them play in the NBA? Not to mention that Joey Dorsey didn't exactly develop much during his four years at Memphis. Heck, Vernon "airballed free throws" Macklin was a better free throw shooter than Dorsey. Seriously--Macklin made a higher percentage of his free throws than Joey Dorsey did. So yeah, not a lot of big guys for Memphis to hang their hats on.

The only home Saturday games of any note are Butler (1/17), Depaul (2/21) and Seton Hall (3/7). So, yeah, Winter Basketball Weekend is going to be a real big draw again this year.
