We should feel blessed that JTIII was able to convince him to come to Georgetown. Otherwise we might be discussing whether Rivers is going to challenge ray-ray for the starting spot once Big East play nears. By the way, I lost my breath when Jon went down in the first half. Scary. My guess is we would be debating whether JT3 starting a freshman PG is necessarily the best option--Rivers would play twice as well if he didn't have the #5 jersey.

Though still mistake-prone, the guards and newcomers looked much better tonight. Let's just give them a few games to get their stuff in order- I think they'll be fine by the end.

More evidence: Wallace has 99 career threes. The 100th will tie Joey Brown for 11th. the 102nd will tie Charles Smith for 10th.

I am glad JW is our PG. think about it for a second--he's supposed to be playing in a Conference that doesnt even give out Schlorships for Athletics. I think he's a damn good player.

I think that you have to judge a point guard like a quarterback. Many of them do different things when they are under center and they all certainly have different strengths - some are called on to be play makers and some aren't - they are all judged by wins and losses. With JW as our point guard we've won more than we lost and we've won big games against Top 10 teams - that track record speaks for itself.

That's an awful way to judge a quarterback or a point guard, or really any player in a team sport.

then why did he work on his shot 90% of the time this summer and his ball handling the remaining 10%. he considers himself a 2. trust me I just got back home and found my brand spankin' new SI in the mailbox. Right there on the cover, it says, "Point Guard Jonathan Wallace." I'm going to the bank with that one.

How is this thread five pages? Our Wallace consumes opponents with fireballs from his eyes and bolts of lightning from his arse. Paulus will cry. Believe it.

I wasnt going to say anything on this thread but I must. First off I to was saying the same thing two years ago when JW was a Freshman. But he looked good against Vandy, and all this talk about our guards looking sloppy, I watched that game 3 times already, and I dont see where their pressure had any effect on us at all. We had Jeff bring the ball up a few times and broke their press. I did see one play where Jeff got a little careless and they tool the ball from him. But other than that we looked good, I was worried coming in but we never trailed, how can we critisize anybodies play when we never trailed in this game.

Repeat after me:
"In the Georgetown (ie. Princeton) offense, there is no difference between the 1 and the 2." "In the Georgetown (ie. Princeton) offense, there is no difference between the 1 and the 2." "In the Georgetown (ie. Princeton) offense, there is no difference between the 1 and the 2." "In the Georgetown (ie. Princeton) offense, there is no difference between the 1 and the 2." "In the Georgetown (ie. Princeton) offense, there is no difference between the 1 and the 2."
There is a right guard and a left guard. Their jobs are identical. If you want a pure point guard, then you want a pick-and-roll offense or a 2-in offense like the Esherick high-low.
Personally, I think we will need to be creative in beating good pressure this year. A fast Connecticut team might give us trouble. We may need three guys (JW, other guard, Jeff, and maybe even the other forward) to break a good trap. However, let's remember the following fundamental: no player can outrun a pass. One player can dribble through a press. Three players passing can turn a press into a scoring opportunity.
Let's look at the positive of JW's game: the 16-foot jumper. A remember at least two times when he gave his man a ball fake, then took two bounces before pulling up from the elbow and draining a mid-range jumper. This is BRILLIANT. JW is a super guard, but he doesn't have the ups or speed to finish in traffic. Let's be honest...we won't see him dunking through Darryl Watkins (it's Darryl, right? kid from cuse). However, for him, the 16-footer is more reliable than a layup. If he can add this to his game consistently, he'll be good enough to be a complete guard.

There are not five guards in the Big East better than Jon Wallace. He's much better than Joey Brown or Kevin Braswell ever was. Let's beat ODU.
