I'll indulge, this team does have more talent than the kb led teams, but you're overlooking the mentalities. kb had the TALENT to be a top-tier point gaurd, but he didn't have the mentality. He didn't know when to shoot, nor when to get everyone involved. put him on this team and roy goes hungry. put him on this team and jeff doesn't blossom because kb dribbled WAY too much. see the point? no i do not see the point. kb was asked to take the shots he took b/c the team did not have the talent to allow him to be a pure pg. who else was going to take on the scoring load on a consistant basis? how do you know what his mentality would have been if he had more talent and a better coach?

Its really sad that were stuck in this inane argument instead of enjoying a 16 point victory and an incredible performance by Wallace. He was very good tonight. who is not enjoying the win? ?? the is a chat board!!!! how many different ways can we all say "hip hip horay, we won! we are great!"

top 5 PG in the past 20 years? i dont know about that but maybe by the time his career is over. theres a reason why wallace has led the team in minutes in both games this season. he would have played even more today if he didnt take that fall. kids arent even true point guards anymore... plus we dont even need a true PG in the princeton. just need a few heady guys who can break the press. am i totally confident in the press breaking ability of our team? no, but i think it will get better as the year progresses and i think its serviceable. i just dont know how you make this post after we win a road game vs. a good team by 16, and after wallace had a great game. how a soph can be ranked in the top 5 for the past 20 years is beyond me as well. that is why i said big john would throw him out of his gym if he heard him make that statement.

I hate to tell you so, but if we can go on the road early in the season and blow out Vandy without a true point guard I don't care.

Probably the same amount of ways we can all say "Wow we are horrible, how did we win? We need a better pg." who said we are horrible? and who asked how did we win? from this topic, a new discussion has spun off concerning the top PGs in the last 25 years of the program. that is what a chat room, or any discussion, for that matter is all about. exchanging opinions

I can make that statement because it's my opinion. Look dog, I've seen all of these dudes play, every pg since the 80's. Wallace is by far the most underappreciated pg we've had here amongst the fan base. I guess because he doesn't go out there, break ankles, dunk on everyone, go 15-15 from 3-point land, people think he's not that good.
I'm tired of people criticizing him. They did his freshman season. They did last year, and then when he started playing well, they said it's because of ashanti.
this year, people are still dissing him...I was just responding to mr. sixer and the way he dissed j-wall in this asinine threat. Wallace may never be a pro. But he's a VERY good college point gaurd. and I don't see why people like mr. sixer can't see that.
as I said, other than dominic james, there's not a pg in the big east I'd rather have on my team other than j-wallace.

This guy is basing his statements on what the announcers said???
just b/c the announcers said the guard play was sloppy doesn't mean that was the case.
that was the SEC feed. the announcers' microphones read "SEC Basketball" on them. What are they supposed to say?
I would expect more thoughtful analysis from a Kenner League coach. Oh, and welcome back old-timer.

Hi Mrsixer
I think that you got so much grief, because of the nnature of the title of this thread. One game doesn't prove or disprove anything.
As I understand your position, Wallace is a liability and could cost us the game in the last couple of minutes, particularly if we are pressed (this interpretation from your thread of two weeks ago).
While I don't agree with you about Wallace, the jury is still out. Look, there are many excellent and perceptive coaches in the BE, etc. If we have a problem with the press, particularly with Wallace running the offense, other coaches will recognize this and press us for the whole game.
We need to take a rest and revisit this subject near the end of the season.
BTW-Wallace had a total of 2 turnovers. He certainly can't be held responsible, if Jeff Green dribbles into traffic and has the ball stripped.
I am thrilled with this team. Our new additions look great. It just is going to take some time for them to adjust to the offense and division one college hoops
Regards,
Jerry

we run an offense where a true point guard is not needed. everyone on this team can handle the ball and pass. Wallace serves as what a point guard would in the prince-hoya offense: he calms everyone. are you essentially saying we need another offense? if we had a true point gaurd it wouldn't matter because he wouldn't be running the show as much as you might think. how many times did we see green handling the ball at the top fo the key? hibbert at the top of the key? its an all-hands offense....
what i saw is a team to is still working out kinks but boy will we be a good team.

Wallace is the best true point guard we have had in the past eight years, period! I love watching him play and he makes us tick. When he went out with that cramp, that was the only time I was worried in last nights game. J. Wallace is a beast! Case closed, next thread.

When he went out with that cramp, that was the only time I was worried in last nights game. J. Wallace is a beast! Case closed, next thread. This may be a little too far. I'm not going to say Wallace is the most talented guard in the country, because he's not. I'm not going to say he'll score 20 points a game, although he might in a few games. I'm not going to say he never turns the ball over, because he does. I'm not going to say he's the best guard we ever had, because he's not. Having said all that, and I'm sure I'll say this over and over again because of all the pessimists out there, Jon Wallace is the player we could least afford to lose. He's providing the leadership that the backcourt needs to allow Jeff to play his game. Last year, the offense ran through Jeff too much. Don't get me wrong, he did a tremendous job, but we need him to be free to create scoring opportunities for himself, and that's why I have (so far) been tremendously impressed by Wallace.

Jon Wallace is not a world-class athlete. Thats about the only negative I can think of (though I recall a certain spin-move against Duke that was stunning).
He is not asked to be a superstar, and he doesn't want to be one. This ties in to his best qualities: decision-making, leadership, and DESIRE TO WIN.
We should feel blessed that JTIII was able to convince him to come to Georgetown. Otherwise we might be discussing whether Rivers is going to challenge ray-ray for the starting spot once Big East play nears.
By the way, I lost my breath when Jon went down in the first half. Scary.
