"nowhere near as good a O'Bryant on the offensive side."
Come ON! I mean really. If we were this ignorant about a midwestern team, we'd hear it for being east coast snobs.
I think they're trying to kid themselves so they don't have to re-live their defensive problems against a big, athletic center.

That needed to be said, Giga. One thing most do not know is just how tall Roy is. He's a head taller than standard doors in ICC, which tells me he's closer to 7'4" than people think. I assume those doors are 7'0" instead of some weird height like 6'7", but this is GU we're talking about, so maybe the assumption is misguided.

We are talking about Roy, right? Big? Yes. Athletic? Now hold on a minute! Ha Ha! AGH! What, he doesn't remind you of Patrick the way he glides across the floor? The way he leaps for those shot blocks? hmmm More like.. say... Mike Frazier? But I do think Jersey may be right that Roy is AT LEAST 7'2 I think he's taller. Even standing next to Jeff and the other tall guys on our team, he looks a LOT taller. WIN THE FIRST ONE -- v. N. IOWA!!!

why are they so concerned with roy? how much did he play when we beat duke? i'm not saying he won't be a factor (because i think that they are kidding themselves and that he'll play a big part in our gameplan and should be able to do some major damage if we make it a point to get him involved), but if i was a northern iowa fan i would be more worried about jeff green, who in addition to being taller than everyone on their team, is as athletic as they've seen all year. it seems like they think we live and die by how roy plays, and if he doesn't go off they will be fine. i hope that is how they are game-planning.

Now hold on a minute! Yeah, athletic. No, he's not as athletic as one of the greatest centers in the history of basketball. But his footwork and passing are way above average for NCAA 7-footers. You want to see an unathletic guy, see the guy who tried to guard him versus Oregon. Or see Tom Greis, now the world's tallest investment banker.

UNI does need a healthy diet of recipe #32 on Friday! I hope that this recipe is going to come out with the demeanor of an assassin and the self-confidence of the top-tier player that he is!

Roy IS athletic for his size...maybe if he was 6'4 people would think he was an uncoordinated blob, but the man is a LEGIT 7'2 and you are complaining about his athleticism? He gets up and down the floor reasonably well, has very, very good hands and is an excellent interior passer...it is all relative - the young man is definitely an athlete and he is just getting more comfortable with his body... so my point is...cut him a break! i hope he puts up 20 and 15 on these pieces of cow dung yahoos...

WHEN he develops a quick drop step move to go along with the little hook and his passing ability he will be unstoppable. The kid isn't even 20 yrs old! scary!

Has anyone else notice that Cedar Falls is incredibly close to Iowa City? Why would anyone ever go to UNI over Iowa? Or Iowa State? Is Ames that boring? Are UNI students too dumb to get into those schools?
I mean, the Cedar Falls stripclubs/juice bars may be entertaining, but it's in the middle of a cornfield and the athletic teams wear purple. Purple may be the color of royalty, but it's also the color most often worn by drag queens across America. Athletic teams that wear purple rarely win anything anyway (see: Minnesota Vikings, Sacramento Kings).
Simply put, UNI is a third-rate state school in the armpit of a third-rate state. When George Strait "sang a song about the heartland," he sure as hell wasn't thinking about Cedar Falls. Thank God we don't have to go there to play the Panthers. I'd rather spend the day in Waco (TX), Gary (IN), Grozny or Rick Majerus's rolls of fat. Ugh. Let's send these nobodies back to the rock they crawled out from.

Grozny over Cedar Falls - post of the year candidate.
I'm fine with the rationalizations on the UNI board - its a psychologically understandable thing to do. Weve a web of lies and outs for yourself so that you can stomach the 7'2 midget-eating monster that is Roy Hibbert.
Like most of you I am hoping that UNI really does plan on stopping Roy and double teams him with Jeff or Brandon's man.

hey hoya fans,
I was directed to this site and thought I would let you know some misc info about our team and I was hoping that someone could reply with similar info about the hoyas as I havent had a chance to check you guys out this year. All I saw was the victory against duke and even that was only about 5 minutes. Here we go...
PG Brooks McKowen JR, he splits time with our six man john little at this position. He has been in and out of the doghouse with our coach while at UNI, that being said he has made a lot of improvments this year but isnt a big stat page guy. He does have a history of having big games when UNI is in big games, 20 plus pts in a couple of games but most of the time he just looks to get other players their shots.
SG Ben Jacobson SR, He is our leader on the offensive end. He is a jump shooter who shows the occasional flash to the basket. He has had a tough senior season pt wise with all the MVC teams focusing on him, he has a done a good job of using that and finding the open man most of the season. His best shot is driving and pulling up with a funny kick out with the feet. When the offense is struggling or the shot clock is running down he is the guy we look to.
SF Erik Crawford SR, Erik is the glue for our team. He does everything well. He can defend the 1-4 and provides excellent rebouding from the 3 position. He uses his body well and uses his quickness against posts when guarding down low. He will only go against a 4 if Stout or Coleman get in foul trouble or we need to steal minutes. He is always willing to do what is needed on the floor whether it is rebounding, scoring, or passing. He broke his foot in mid january so he has been struggling getting back into bball shape but hopefully he will have had enough time to get ready.
PF, Grant Stout JR, He may not look like a double double demon, but he is. He is the ultimate garbage guy. We don't run many plays specifically for him, but he always seems to get his 10+. He has shown that he can hit the 3 this season which has helped clear out the middle for Coleman. He is an excellent rebounder(lead the mvc in rebounds) and always seems to steal a rebound off a missed free throw every other game. Grant works hard and doesnt get in foul trouble often, but when he does it hurts our team dramatically.
C, Eric Coleman SO, If Crawford is the glue coleman is our soul. He plays with all heart. At 6'6 he is a small center but he uses his quickness to get around other centers when in the post. He always seems to use his 7ft wingspan to barey release a shot around other bigs. I'm really interested to see how he does against your 7fter. Coleman is up and down and extremly streaky. He can be quite all game and in 2 minutes just dominate and put up 10 pts. We all wish we had more dominating. He is also a good rebounder (3rd in the mvc)
6th man, PG, John Little SR, He comes off the bench and is our best perimeter defensive player. He normally will contain the player and not let them got totally nuts on us. He is lethal from the corner in treyville.
Other Players: Travis Brown FR, is our offensive sparkplug, he too gaurds 1-4 when the other team's 4 isn't too big or is resting.
Jared Josten SO, is a minute stealer at this pt in his career. He will come in to give Jacobson or McKowen a blow. He has shown some offensive talent with a pullup on a fast break that is money.
Atila Santos SO, He so far has not developed as hoped for intially. He seems to be all world athletically but cant put it together with basketball. He is from brazil and is exteremly raw. If he gets significant minutes it only helps you.
Michael Williams JR, this juco transfer sometimes comes into games when the other team's guards seem to just be stealing our perimeter player's jock straps. He is very quick but I havent seen enough of him to comment on more.
Coach Greg McDermott Coach Mac has turned our program into a winner plain and simple. He is an alumni of UNI and we all pray he never leaves. He has over 100+ different offensive and inbound plays. He rarely gets out coached in a game. He sets up great game plans which can be shown in our last two tourney loses. Georgia Tech loss by 5 and Wisconsin loss by 5. The wisconsin loss hurt as a team that shot around 30% from 3pt land decided they would go off for 50+ against us when our game plan clearly showed that we wanted them to beat them that way and not with their bigs. Wisconsin fans that we watched the game with couldnt believe how well wisocnsin shot. Enough blabbing. Mac is practically a untouchable to UNI fans for all that he has done.
Team Misc: UNI plays good team defense but we are vulnerable to quick guards who can beat their man as our gaurds sometimes seem to be a step slow on the defensive end of the court. McKowen lives to take charges so he will either get one or take a blocking foul in the process of trying to get one almost gauranteed. Our coaches preach not to foul if you get beat. We made 25 more free throws on the season than our opponents even shot.
I would love to have a breakdown similar on the hoyas if someone would be willing to take the time. I'll be glad to answer questions or politely debate!

Thanks for the update. I think McKowen is the x-factor that could really drive UNI in the game.
The site preview on the game will be posted Thursday.

I have only seen UNI play 3 times over the past 3 seasons--- the 2004 Georgia Tech NCAA game, the 2005 Wisconsin NCAA game and this year's "bracket buster" game against Bucknell. In your opinion, which of the 3 UNI teams is the strongest? I thought the 2004 team was a much better outside shooting team than the team I saw against Bucknell this year. If it wasn't for the play of Coleman, who was awesome in the post, Bucknell would have won by 5-10 points. hey hoya fans, I would love to have a breakdown similar on the hoyas if someone would be willing to take the time. I'll be glad to answer questions or politely debate! ~UNIbball Edited. Posters from other boards that act in good faith in discussing their teams should be treated with some level of respect. Many newcomers don't get the Frank Black-style sarcasm. That being said, POLITE DEBATE BE DAMNED!!! VIVA BLACK FRANCIS!!! DEATH TO OUTSIDERS!!! CRUSH THE NON-BELIEVERS!!! HOYA, HOYA SAXA!!!
RESIST!!! RESIST!!! RESIST!!! RISE UP, HOYATALKERS, AND RECLAIM WHAT IS YOURS FROM THE ADMIN TYRRANY!!!
VIVA LA REVOLUCION!!
