Did anyone else think those last two fouls on Roy were ridiculous? I mean on his 4th "foul" his elbows never even touched the leprechaun's head. This is proven by the fact that it is still attached to his shoulders. And I didn't see any contact on the fifth "foul" either. The fourth "foul"nearly sent a beer bottle against the wall. Particularly since it was not too long after the no-call when Stoudt scissor-kicked Green to knock him to the floor. I only hope some NCAA official was watching and issues at the very least a warning to that young man. Getting physical inside is one thing, but he could have really hurt Jeff with that move. hahaha, unfortunately that 4th foul at least was legit. I thought it was a flop until I saw the replay, then I just laughed and had the same "how's his head still attached?" reaction. In a totally random note, adding to the coincidence that the Hoyas ended up in the 7-10 game in the bottom right corner of the bracket just like in 2001...the lead official for today's game was the same lead official from the Burton game: Ted Hillary.

GO HOYAS!!!!! What a great game and a great atmosphere. Our fans represented, the guys faught a gritty, defensive game. Ashanti stepped up, big time. NIU is a good team, this was a good win.
Now, OSU. We will be outnumbered 10 to 1 in the arena, like a roadie. Our guys will have to bring their A game. Just think Duke guys, slap blue jerseys on your opponent and have at 'em!

When Jesse elevated for his second 3, the CBS play by play guy actually said "Sapp Rises". There's a t-shirt slogan for you.

After reading through this entire thread from beginning to end, the one thing that I am (unfortunately) not suprprised by, is the lack of credit given to Ashanti for this win. Clearly, there are many of you who recognize what he means to this team, and what he did yesterday, but many of you prefer to focus on how "inconsistent" he is, or say it's "about time he stepped up."
Sometimes I think I'm crazy, 'cause he's my boy, but I'm happy to see that both Camille and Barker headlined their articles with COOK! Now the storyline may very well be Hibbert (and he was a rock yesterday), and Jesse, as a fellow NYC cat is a player I'm so excited to see develop, but come on all of you, where would this team be without Ashanti's clutch play and leadership? Yesterday our team looked to a senior to put this team on his back, and he came through big time.
This is not only evident in his play, but in his attitude: read his comments after the game and you'll see that he's the silent senior leader who fuels this team! Not only has he played tough defense and aggressively rebounded the ball all season long, and guarded the opposing teams elite guard, but he's been the guy who hits BIG (not quiet!) shots! Perhaps none were bigger than his four free throws, but his timely three and tough mid-range jumper were pretty deadly too. Couple that with Jesse's three to give us the lead, and Roy's huge spin and dunk move, and those are the baskets that will remain with me for years to come.
I'm so proud Ashanti's a Hoya, and I'm happy to see that he confirmed my assertion that yesterday's dunk was the first of his career (talk about a nice time for a first, huh?) He's got a little "something-something" after all, baby!
Well, I'm sorry if I come across as slightly bitter, but I've been preaching all year long how valuable Ashanti is to, particulary because of his big balls, but because of his all-around play. I also think he will be sorely missed next year... I'm happy to see that no one can dispute this any longer. And remember...
IT'S ONLY THE BEGINNING! YOU GOTTA BELIEVE!!!
LET'S GO HOYAS!!! OUST OSU!

I'm with Megafan--normally I'm all about Roy, but Ashanti is not getting enough love here.
I talked to Ashanti's Parents and Grandma at the HHC reception after the game, and I asked them if they knew he could dunk. They said, "yup, he was just saving it for sometime special"
I'd say closing out his first NCAA tournament win is sometime special!

Good point Mega. Cook has taken a lot of heat for what has been a really solid year. Yesterday he wanted the ball at the end of the game, was aggressive, and delivered. Can't ask for mu ch more than that.

Thanks for that insightful post, pantherswin! Do you provide such wisdom to each team that beats you in the NCAA 1st round? From what I saw, Green looked like he had a subpar game and Stoudt is a total glom. He was fouling like crazy in the post (might as well, if the ref won't call it, so good strategy by him), and then he tried to scissor Green's legs and wrap them around his foot. I'm glad guys pulled Green away, because it is frustrating when a hack who's been fouling all game then tries to hold you by his legs to either (1) be a jerk; or (2) provoke a technical foul. Good composure by the team. By the way, Northern Iowa fans might well complain about their missed open shots, but they can also thank their stars that GU also could not hit the broad side of a barn for a while, and even missed many inside shots that usually go down. A subpar Hoya effort defeated a possibly subpar Northern Iowa effort. It's not really going out on much of a limb to think that the No. 2 seed will now beat the No. 7. I like the Hoyas' chances just fine, but it's not exactly Monmouth over Nova if the Buckeyes pull one out Sunday. One thing is for sure -- the Hoyas' ascent is right on track. From a near NCAA bid last year, to an NCAA win this year (and perhaps more to come), to even better recruiting and the foundation for yearly NCAA bids to come, JT3 and staff deserve a ton of credit. Go Hoyas! Beat Ohio State! Who would have thought Wesley Crusher would be such a Edited on the basketball court? www.starfleetlibrary.com/tng/images/wilwheaton.jpggraphics.fansonly.com/photos/schools/niwa/sports/m-baskbl/auto_action/72409.jpeg
