Northern Iowa gave the Georgia Tech team that went to the finals their toughest game of the tournament (until UCONN) two years ago. I do not know how many players remain from that team. Very well coached.

Here is a pretty good column looking at UNI's team: A couple of interesting points: "But Northern Iowa could really struggle against an opponent that's extremely tall and athletic. Center Greg Coleman is 6-foot-6 in tennis shoes. Power forward Grant Stout looked completely gassed at the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament last weekend." "The one way to take (Northern Iowa) out of its sets is with athleticism and the ability to do a lot of switching," ESPN analyst Fran Fraschilla noted. "I think they're going to be a tough out, no matter what their seed is or who it is they play. But you're going to have to pressure their guards and switch." desmoinesregister.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060312/SPORTS05/603120356/1091/SPORTS02It sure doesn't look like we are the kind of team that they want to be facing.

Two quick notes from the UNI and MVC Valley Talk boards...
"We have not handled big men this year very well and Georgetown has a guy that is 7 ft 2 in. He is worthless in my mind, but we have to be able to hit our shots and play good deffense. I like our chances, i think Georgetown might be looking ahead to to Ohio State in the 2nd round."
Can't say I'm loooking ahead other than we are playing in Ohio against mid west teams.
and
"Their only previous meeting was December 1989 in Las Vegas, which resulted in an 83-49 Hoya win."
Let's hope history repeats.

Wow....Roy is worthless? I can understand thinking we may look ahead to Ohio St., but that statement was a little misinformed to say the least. I agree that would be a perfect posting for the locker room. From what I know about this team, despite not shooting 3's at a high percentage, I was under the impression they take a lot of them. If they are as small as it seems, I would think they will have to. They seemed to get some big wins early and then have not played as well recently- possibly they shot the 3 really well early in the season and then have come back to Earth for the rest? I'll have to go back and check some box scores from the Iowa and other (LSU?) big win they had. Not a team to take lightly by any means, but if we play our game and everyone has their heads in it, we should be fine.

I think the most significant thing that occurred during the BET for our offense is that we were beating the zone even when their C went out high to guard against who ever we had in the high post. Marquette noticed that it was just too easy for JG, BB to handle the ball just inside the foul line against ND (JG/BB would turn around and be shocked that nobody was near them) so they started pressing the high post and then we proved that we could make fantastic interior passes even to directly underneath the basket.
A team like UNI after watching our BET run will sag their forwards in even more to the hoop to prevent the pass from the high post down to underneath the basket. That means we could see a lot of dishing to the wings for 3 pointers. That has me a little concerned because although we have torn it up from beyond the arc pretty well, I definitely don't want to take more 3s against such a smaller team.

Folks, let's take it easy on the "Roy is worthless" poster. Its obvious this guy is basing his opinion on likely one BET game, maybe the Dook game... two games Roy didn't have his best showings.
Once he goes off for 16 and 9, we'll see who's worthless...
... and who's playing Ohio State!!!

Well, just because we can... it looks like there are 4 games in Dayton on Friday. My guess would be 12, 2, 7, and 9pm starts. Of the 4 games, we have the most competitive on paper - there is OSU's 2 seed-15 game, UNC's 3-14 game, MSU's 6-11 game and our 7-10 game. I dont know if this type of thing is taken into consideration, but my guess is that we will be one of the evening games on Friday.

Hey, we can't sleep on UNI but...
...OSU can't sleep on Davidson either.
This is a Davidson team that beat St. Joes, Missouri, and was tied at the half at 'Cuse (they needed 8 3's from McNamara to win by 10). They are well-coached and very experienced. Not an easy one for the Buckeyes.

It's done to accommodate TV schedules first...they don't want two teams from the same area playing at the same time It has nothing to do with what the seeding matchups are

From ESPN insider on odds: insider.espn.go.com/ncb/ncaatourney06/insider/news/story?id=23531267 vs. 10 | 51-33, 0.607 As close as these seeds are, it's surprising that 7-seeds have been so dominant in the matchup. While No. 7 seeds win more than 60 percent of the time, 10-seeds still win one or two games per tourney. The trick is to figure out the right ones to advance, as picking wrong one can make this a very damaging matchup. Anyone who picked Creighton over West Virginia last year can attest to that. Upset watch: Surprisingly, inexperience tends to level the playing field in the 7 vs. 10 matchup. Tenth-seeded teams that have gone to the Dance less than three years in a row with coaches who've made fewer than five tourney trips are 21-20 (.512); all other 10-seeds are 12-31 (.279). The most victimized 7-seeds lack offensive punch and backcourt scoring. Squads that score fewer than 76 points a game and get less than half their points from guards are just 7-16 (.304); the rest of the seven seeds are 44-17 (.721).

Is anyone else of the opinion that if we play our game we win? I mean, I just think if we dictate what we want to do, there's nothing UNI can do to beat us.

That is a terrible stat, Bridge. 30%? I'm just praying our bigs can get to the line when they rightfully should. If the undersized UNI frontcourt is allowed to hack all day and get away with it and we have to get into a perimeter shooting contest with these guys, I'm not entirely confident we can win. But if Roy/Jeff/even Brandon make it tough for them inside to stay out of foul trouble (as they should), this team shouldn't be able to hang with us.
