Are these the Georgetown Hoyas at MCI Center we're talking about? Playing Rutgers?
That's pretty good stuff. With the massive crowd coming for Saturday, (DFW says we need something over 14,000) we're going to wind up averaging over 10,000 for the season, which to me is a fantastic accomplishment--and really can be just a small step in the right direction.
Note that the tremendous home court people describe for Marquette averages a bit over 13,000.
With those kinds of fans, there can be some noise. Beyond keeping them coming (and getting even more next season) the next step needs to be how to pump that crowd up a bit. I mentioned some of the things Crean has done at the Bradley Center. I also asked who was in charge of setting the stage at MCI Center and got no answer.
I'm bummed there hasn't been more dialogue about the little things that can be done to give a crowd energy.

Was it that high? The crowd was just quiet tonight, students included.
I'm fairly positive Saturday will be loud though, and I also think we'll definitely sell more than 14K if we haven't already.
Hoya Blue would love to hear any ideas you have about getting the crowd--students, alums, or otherwise--energized and loud.

Just to make a list of ideas
1. Free giveaways of Hoyas stuff at every home game to ALL fans. A t-shirt one night, handkerchiefs another, etc. etc. (Done at Marquette)
2. Poms-poms on every purchased chair in the arena prior to big games (like Duke or Cuse). (Also done at Marquette)
3. A more boisterous PA announcer (sorry Father McFadden). (Done everywhere)
4. Have the PA (even Father McFadden) instruct all fans to stay standing until the Hoyas first basket. (Done at Marquette and elsewhere)
5. Improve the gimmicks during time outs.
6. Mix up the music during timeouts a bit: the band early in the game, go-to hit songs that get people fired up late. (And I mean music that appeals to even the long-time season ticket holders: U2, Rolling Stones, etc.)
7. Don't let Father McFadden fill certain time outs by reading a mind-numbing, crowd-killing laundry list of sponsors ("Graffiti, for dinner after the game." "Metro opens doors.") That stuff just saps the energy out of the building and puts people to sleep.
8. Fewer Noon start times (I realize this is out of our hands)
It really is the little things that add up.

I just heard that a bunch of tickets (maybe in student section) have been reserved for accepted students during this GAAP weekend. I could be wrong...but might want to take that into consideration..we definititely want to give off a great impression and have a great atmosphere at the game!

3. A more boisterous PA announcer (sorry Father McFadden). (Done everywhere) Don't need it. Rev. McFadden is Georgetown's version of Bob Shepard (of Yankee Stadium fame)-- a great voice who has literally spanned the generations of Hoya basketball. The last thing MCI Center needs is another local DJ who makes "noise" a multi-syllable word. A public address announcer is just that--he's not a cheerleader. Announcers like Carl Ellenburg at Syracuse or Art Chandler at Duke are fixtures at their schools, and those arenas certainly don't need help cheering.

I definitely think better music during timeouts and other lulls, especially stuff that older folks (30s and up) can get into. We played "Welcome to the Jungle" a few games ago, and while you don't find many bulldogs in the jungle, it is still a crowd-revver. Also AC/DC will do. Other than that, I think the thing that gets the non-students going is the students. If the students bring a lot of energy, that is a catalyst for the placid non-student fans. As for me, I spend a lot of time standing and making noise, but am sorry to say that that usually results in the people behind me asking (well, often not asking, per-se) me to sit down.

Anyone know who the 6'10 recruit was last night? I am assuming he was a recruit as he had a very young face. He appeared to be behind the team.

I was sitting in the players family section, right behind the bench. There was also a guy wearing an O'Connell letterman jacket. I am assuming that was the no-va area player previously mentioned in the other threads? Any updates would be cool.

Is Summers the kid who wears the old school Orioles hat to the games?

Don't think so. He's usually in a black hooded jacket. He's got a goatee

If they fired Father McFadden and hired some loudmouth I think I would stop going to games. The Bob Shepard comparison is spot on.
