Jersey and RDF, you're such killjoys.
Fiery HC = loved by own fanbase, hated by opponents. It's not bush league or anything else. And though something about Crean kinda creeps me out, it's not nearly the psycho-killer feeling I get when listening to Bruce Pearl. That guy's somewhat of a cross between Robin Williams in Dead Poets Society and Jim Carrey in Cable Guy.
I love Thompson, and wouldn't trade him for Crean ever. But if Crean were our coach, you guys would love his energy and interest in the fanbase.

No I wouldn't. I'm all for a fiery coach--but the crap going on before games is LAME. Now Marquette guy likes it, great--and I know Marquette has a long, storied history of success, but I don't care--I hate Wisconsin and anything to do with that dump, so have to hammer on it. Crean is a goon and it's C-USA behavior in a Major conference--but we're used to hillbillies and goons so it makes it fun to hate their team and him. I wish all of the "newbies" nothing but misery in Big East and that's just a Hoya fan who grew up with the Big East and hates the Midwestern "Extension" of the league.

Look, nothing will change two critical facts. 1.) Crean knows how to coach the bejesus out of his team. And 2.) If the guy ever applied to be a department store santa, he'd raise a few eyebrows... he just has a real, er, Child Enthusiast look about him.

Isn't the point to create a solid home court advantage at MCI? No one is suggesting that you have to have a head coach who goes to Crean lengths (though the story that he sent school buses to strategic areas in the Milwaukee suburbs and Chicago area for the UConn game because the students were away is pretty impressive), but there is no question that the MCI environment is not maximized. You should be able to get a lot more noise out of 10,000 people, especially if the student sections are significantly raucous.
As for RDF: I've always enjoyed your posts. I think you have terrific basketball analysis to offer. But you can take your Minnesota horse elsewhere. There is no state in the country more insecure from a sporting standpoint than the Land o' Lakes is about its neighbor to the East, and its because Wisconsin has a far great sports tradition, and its fans have always been greater. So take your bitterness and shove it.

By the way, why is it that I'm the only one fighting this battle of trying to improve MCI as a home court? Everybody else is either convinced that the only thing that matters is an on-campus arena or is focused exclusively on the student sections, which is great but only 50% of the issue.

I fought that battle months ago, Big Dog. But people got on my case for suggesting the idea of waking up the general sections by either positive encouragement or calling them out. So I don't even bother with that anymore.

You can't call them out. You have to make them have fun without their realizing it.
To whom do I direct a letter in the athletic or promotions department?
Its SO frustrating to talk about improving MCI only to get the following responses:
1. Loud announcers are annoying
2. Tom Crean is crazy
DFW in particular has bi&*hed more than anybody about our home court woes, and all he can say in response to my post is: "Don't take Father McFadden away."
Disappointing is the stagnation on this board about such an important issue.

Instead of talking directly to McD, which probably won't do jack unless you get a hold of Muir personally, I'd go the HHC route. Especially since the season ticket holders get their tickets through them. There are at least two and I think three members of the HHC board that post here regularly, and I know others lurk. If you want, PM me and I'll hit you with the president's email address tomorrow.

1) My favorite participation is the "roll call" at Yankees games. The name of each player is chanted until the player turns and acknowledges the bleacher creatures. What if the student section did something like that? I know it would be tough to do with the tempo of a college basketball game, but it may work for the bench or that time right before tip-off. Just a thought.
2) What if you had the "Hoya Saxa" chant shouted out by each of the four sides of the court separately. I think it is great when the two student sections chant one-at-a-time. If you can get each side of the court involved it would get the older fat cats to wake up. Maybe you do this... north side "We!"... southside "Are!"... eastside "George!"... westside "Town!"

Big Dog-you need to calm down and quit acting like a newbie around here--if you don't know I HATE the entire State of Minnesota worse then Wisconsin, you should really keep your mouth shut. Quit acting brand new or keep your mouth shut because anyone who's been around knows that I DESPISE any/everything about Minnesota sports teams--just living up here and seeing how the fans are and how annoying they are--I hate the entire Midwestern outlook on sports--they are always "overlooked" "underrated" and "Deserve more praise"--they cry, whine, etc.. and reality is they often fail to meet expectations and are goons. Your reply was ignorant and all the proof I need about people from there. They are morons when it comes to Sports.

No I'm fully aware of your hatred of Minnesota as well. Your self-loathing has also never been more evident.
But stick with the state you know best.
And quit hatin' the rest of us.

Believe me--living up here--you know both fanbases well and they both are full of the most obnoxious, uninformed, cry baby morons that you'll ever encounter. Sorry Dog, that's just a fact--I mean for the love of God, look at your name and pic insert and who it is? Glenn Robinson? YIKES! ;D Nobody knows the misery of "we love you Brett--you can't leave us" bellows then me and if you knew how much I hate Minnesota teams--why the post?? 'Sconsin arrogance and beer induced may I add at it's best.

Let's see what you've proven: that people from a state like their pro football team, that they love their Hall of Fame quarterback, and that I picked my HoyaTalk handle five years ago.
Really groundbreaking, unique stuff.
Maybe you should go after anybody who has a Boston or Sox-related handle as well.
I'm not sure who Editeded in your Wheaties and how many years ago they did it. But do yourself (and me) a favor and lighten up. Or get some help in any case.

How about dumping the cheesy Sam Jackson, Jack Black, etc. "Let's Hear some NOISE" video clips. Why not have clips of AI or PE or JTII saying some of that crap. That would get me fired up.

Dog, in case you didn't know--those things attached at the end of the comments are called SMILEY faces--so I think it might be someone else who has to "lighten up" and calm down. Everything I feel about the rubes from MN/Wisconsin is being acted out by you. Just breaking balls and you and your state's psychotic worship of Favre is beyond unhealthy--it's "Crean" aka the new word of scary/freakish, should be arrested demeanor.

I miss the decibel meter they had in the Cap Centre -- it can't be too expensive for MCI to put one of those suckers in, and then some local business could run a proption related to the fan noise -- every dB over 105 gets you a dollar off your pizza if you have your ticket stub for the game -- something like that.

I'd like to see short video clips during timouts splicing Patrick Ewing dunking, Roy dunking, Motombo blocking, Jeff blocking, AI slashing, Ashant slashing, Charles Smith shooting, Brandon shooting, etc. Break up into short, 15 second sequences and show one each timeout.
