HoyaChris posted last week about Jeremiah's performance in an event in St. Louis, which was Rivers' first action of the winter. He battled injuries throughout the summer and carried some of them into the fall. Apparently, he had minor surgery to correct the problem, which caused him to miss a few games early in the season. Anyway, in his second game back tonight, he chipped in a team-high 14 points and 7 assists to lead Winter Park HS (6-1) to a lopsided 64-31 win over Freedom HS (1-5) in league play (Source: www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/highschool/orl-spthsscores13121305dec13,0,1950156.story?coll=orl-sports-utility) With that kind of game, I have a feeling that Rivers probably sat for a good portion of the game just so he could rest and not overextend himself in his second game back. Anyway, keep up the good work, Jeremiah. Next game: at home vs. West Orange HS on 12/15.

He sounds like a solid player. We need as many guards as we can get.

i don't think quantity is the issue... rather quality.

Pretty sure I'd be happy with one great PG

Sure, it would be great to land that super PG that EVERY team wants, but I would be happy with a couple of guards who are impact players at the BE level. Moreover, depth at the guard position is important, even if you have an elite PG. Did anyone notice the difference last year when Felton was out of the game for UNC? Thus, having a guy like Rivers who may not be an All-American but is still is quality player is very important.

The Orlando Sentinel has archived its coverage of scores from the final weeks of 2005, so I do not have extended stats from the final 4 games of the year for Rivers. However, I do have a few notes.
I can't post anything about the 12/15 game against West Orange.
Winter Park went 1-2 in the Chick-Fil-A Classic at the end of the year, with losses to Norcross HS (GA) and Richland Northeast, the tournament host and defending champion. I was able to get extended score updates over the break but neglected to post them. I can report, however, that Rivers averaged 10-14 points, 8-12 assists, and a smattering of boards in the three contests. I have info on his point totals below.
Rivers had 10 points in a 76-46 rout of Keenan HS. Winter Park shot 57% from the field and did especially well along the perimeter, according to the State newspaper. Winter Park also outrebounded Keenan by 17. Keenan was 23-3 last year and returned most of its players.
I don't think many expected much of a contest in Winter Park's second game against Norcross, which boasts (i) a 2006 Kentucky commit, Jodie Meeks (guard), (ii) an all world superstar in the class of 2007, Gani Lawal (forward), and a smattering of other 3 and 4 star players. However, Rivers held Meeks to 4 points in the first half before he hung 18 in the second half in a hotly contested 66-60 game. I don't have Rivers' numbers, but Rivals' analyst said, "[Rivers] made his prescence [sic] known on the court with his guard play."
Lower Richland defeated Winter Park, 61-53, which was the Lower Richland coach's 600th win. Rivers had 15 points, and Lower Richland was led by Mike Jones, a 2006 SU commit, who had 23 points.
I do not have stats for Rivers in a 70-37 rout of Cypress Creek on 1/4. That simply means that he did not lead the team in points, assists, or boards. However, he may have seen limited action due to the nature of the contest.
In a 61-39 win yesterday over Boone HS, Rivers led the team with 15 points and 6 assists.
Winter Park remains unbeaten in conference play, which is a nine-team conference considered one of the best in FL by the Orlando Sentinel.
Next up: University HS tonight in league play.

Winter Park won, 58-33. Again, no numbers on Rivers, so he did not lead in points, boards, or assists. However, he may have also gotten a rest.
Next up: Apopka HS on Friday in conference play.

Rivers' line again does not appear in the Orlando Sentinel, but his team managed a 74-59 win over Apopka HS (4-11).

Rivers had a game high 15 points in a 64-25 win over Colonial HS (6-10) in a non-league game. The line score did not give anyone's numbers for assists and rebounds.

In his best game in recent memory in terms of production, Rivers had a game high 26 points in a 68-61 win over Timber Creek (15-7). TC was considered a trap game en route to postseason play. Winter Park improves to 17-4.

Nice. Where do you get this info Jersey?
Is there any chance for Rivers to win player of the year in Florida? Will he at least be all-state? His team looks like they're doing moderately well, so maybe Jeremiah can make a big impact in the post-season. Not sure if he's 100% healthy quite yet.
Still have high hopes for him. I think he'll develop into a very solid distributing point guard, one who really helps teammates get easy buckets. He'll be a good floor captain for Freeman, Summers, and whoever else is around in the years to come. He'll also, hopefully, provide valuable minutes as well as a change of pace from JW at the point spot beginning next season.

I track the daily scoreboards on OrlandoSentinel.com. These recruiting threads are NevadaHoya-like, so thanks for chiming in. No offense there, Nevada. I am just a bit underwhelmed by the response, or lack thereof, to some of this stuff.
I have no idea about POTY in Florida. His supporting cast has been pretty good, so he hasn't always appeared among the team leaders in different games.
I think Wallace is proving that decision-making and discipline are what is needed out of a PG in this system. As long as he brings that and adds some defense to what we already have, he should contribute.

I appreciate all of the updates Jersey and know that many others do as well. Keep up the good work and thanks for providing the updates.
Guys, watching the film of Rivers, he's much more talented then given credit for--he's a big/fast PG with good floor vision and penetrates well. I think his drop in ranking had a lot more to do with him being injured then his ability to play against top competition. Afterall he did something to get his ranking in the prior Summer/year where he was one of the top 15 players at Nike Camp as a Jr.
I trust this staff when it comes to evaluating players and those players who fit what they want in the program. So I'll go on record and say Jeremiah is the recruit who surprises us the most next year due to the skills I've seen and how it'll translate to the next level.

Jersey, I notice each time you give an update, but there usually isn't much to comment on. Sometimes, the paper doesn't even give you the points. But don't take that to mean it isn't appreciated.
RDF... film? are you talking about something on the RIVALS site? Guess I'd better go take a look. If it is somewhere else, please post.
Thanks to both of you.
