Winter Park (19-4) escaped a scare today and pulled out a 41-38 victory over Oak Ridge (12-10), 41-38. Rivers' numbers were not posted. They play again tomorrow in their final regular season contest. blogs.orlandosentinel.com/sports_highschool_varsity/2006/01/metro_mania.htmlThe Orlando Sentinel blog indicates that Winter Park will likely be the top seed in its region of postseason play. Their final game does not appear to be a league game.

Looks like Jeremiah's team is the 1 seed, since they're in the first place game at home.
Do you think Jeremiah will be invited up here to play in the Capital Classic as part of the National team? At present he isn't really the most touted recruit, but last year Marc played (and played well) and he wasn't either. Bringing in a Hoya recruit might bring some more area folks out to the game. Me, for instance.

Winter Park (21-4) defeated Edgewater HS (21-4) tonight, 63-52 in overtime, to win the Metro Conference championship. Rivers had 17 points in the win. I will be checking for articles, as this game will probably receive some more attention that the others they've played.
Winter Park will next appear in district play/state tournament on 2/7.

We can safely say that we have another winner in Rivers and that he led his team to its best ranking maybe ever.

Winter Park stays alive and improves to 22-4... Rivers had 15 points tonight in a 61-28 win over University HS (8-17) in the Quarterfinals of the Class 6A-4 tournament. Winter Park will face West Orange HS (17-9) on Friday in the semifinals. In somewhat related news, the Winter Park mens' soccer team advanced in the Region 6A-1 tournament in a bizarre game indeed. An opposing player assaulted the referee and has been charged with assault, a third degree felony. www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/highschool/orl-hssoccer0806feb08,0,1983607.story?coll=orl-sports-headlines-hs

I work at the paper in Daytona. That was a bizarre incident indeed. Apparently, the guy got red carded (ejected), punched the official and then chased the guy all over the field before he was restrained. He was arrested, and he will probably be expelled from school. My paper got a photo of the incident. sad stuff indeed.

Do you guys cover Winter Park at all? If so, post a link to the paper, and I'll peruse it on game days/post links.

unfortunately, we don't cover winter park during the regular season. One of our teams could, concievably see them next week during the playoffs. I'll check and post tomorrow. As for Rivers, I want to see him before the season is out. What I'm hearing is that he's alot like his dad. Big, fundamentally sound and a great floor leader who can knock down an open jumper and penetrate off the dribble. Defensively, he's sound on the ball and he really knows how to shoot passing lanes. Put him on the floor at the same time with Wallace, and I like having two guys that can pick defenses apart and get the ball to our big people.

Rivers' club advanced today in a 56-44 win over West Orange HS. Rivers did not figure into the line score. Winter Park will play tomorrow in the Class 6A-4 championship.
Their opponent will be previously unranked Evans HS (20-7), which defeated Edgewater tonight, 56-54. Winter Park defeated Edgewater last weekend to capture the Metro Conference championship.
I'll keep an eye out for any articles.

everyone, As I previously posted, my paper is almost in the winter park area. Boys basketball is in the district playoffs this weekend. It's concievable that one of the teams I cover can meet Winter Park in two weeks from now in the regional tournament. If that happened, I would cover the game and I would be able to get a first hand report on Rivers. Heck, I could even talk my paper into letting me do a story on him. Anyway's I was talking to the coach of my area school. Turns out they played wp twice last summer. He gave me a full report. He said that Rivers is a big point guard. Not only in height, but strength-wise. He has a great handle. Not blazing speed, but he's so strong that he forces his way past people. He can shoot it from deep, and shoot on the move. He gets his team into the offense. Plus the coach told me that Rivers has to be doing a good job because he doesn't have much of a team around him. He said that the district rivers plays in is one of the toughest in Florida. I hope I get the chance to see him firsthand. He said that Rivers is a definite first team all-stater. Not sure about POY, and yes, Florida has a mr. basketball The most encouraging thing the coach told me was that he saw Rivers two weeks ago and he said Rivers has gotten much better since the summer.
