Great run by Rivers and like his numbers from the championship game. Have to keep an eye out for info on the Cap Classic, which will be held in the 8th seed WG's gym.

From what I've heard on HoyaReport, yes. Nothing has been posted yet about the event, so we'll have to wait for final word.

Hey guys, As a newspaper reporter, I try to see as much high school basketball as possible. One of the things that I've wanted to do was get a chance to see Rivers play. I didn't this season, but I have a friend who covers Rivers at the Orlando Sentinel and he gave me a very lengthy report after covering him steadily this season. He gave me several points. Here goes. 1) His overall high school ranking is too low. He was in the top 30 at this time last season, and saw his stock dip because of injuries during the summer. Plus, he's a player that thrives in a system, not in the wide open style of play that the AAU circuit has to offer. Take Ben Gordon for example. His stock was way down in his senior season, but we know how he turned out. 2) Rivers is way more athletic than given credit for. He's able to penetrate the lane off the dribble and get into the lane at will. Proof of this came in the Florida state championship game. While Winter Park lost to Miami Norland, Rivers was the only Winter Park player that could compete with the Norlando players on an athletic level. He's super strong. Strong enough to get into the lane and finish at the rim. He shoots the ball with both hands to the point where he's sort of ambidexterious. Miami Norland had alot of big, wide bodies, led by the 6-8 Zack peacock, a Georgia Tech commit, and Rivers did his thing. He scored 19 and ended up with 9 rebounds, but He was the one who kept them in the game. 3) Rivers can shoot the ball a bit. He hit four three pointers in the championship game and supposedly has a better jumper than at this point last season. 4) The board has speculated a lot on whether he's a point guard, a shooting guard, or a combo guard. He WANTS to be a point guard. He wants to direct the offense. 5) He's very competitive. He's a leader, and he lifted a team that doesn't have a ton of talent to great heights. That's the kind of player we need. 6) Rivers, in my opinion, may have the most impact of any of our freshman for one reason. Winter Park has been running the Princeton offense for three seasons. That's three seasons of experience that the other first year players don't have. He's also the kind of penetrating guard that we've been wanting. He's big at 6-4. He's strong enough to play at the Big East level from day 1, and he's a player who has a high ceiling for improvement. 7) He does have weaknesses. First and foremost, he's not a good passer. When I say that, I mean he looks to shoot when he goes to the basket. He's not looking to set his teammates up. That may be good in the fact that we need aggression. It might not be so good in the fact that we also need unselfishness. His shot, while improved, also isn't where it needs to be. 8) My friend said this kid has a lot of talent. NBA type talent and potential. I asked him what a fair and valid comparison would be. His reply shocked me. He said that Rivers reminds him of a young Derek Harper. That's high praise. Hope this helps, Daytona

Thanks for the scouting report Daytona. I find the fact that WP has been using the Princeton to be very interesting.
Did your friend mention anything about his ability on defense?

Great report, thanks Daytona.
Good to hear he's been running the Princeton. I forget whether I knew that or not, but it's definitely a good thing, though I'm sure it differs from our offense. Sounds like Jeremiah's game is not all that different from Jessie's for now.
Looking forward to hopefully seeing him play in the Cap Classic soon.

I'm also looking forward to this kid because he might be our most important recruit for next year. Macklin and Summers are obviously the higher ranked players, but our front line is already stacked. Our backcourt is much more thin. Aside from Jon and Sapp, we don't have anyone else that's proven. Egerson was getting some minutes during the season, but that dropped off by the end of the year. If Rivers is anything like Derek Harper, I'll be ecstatic.

Some good points -- Macklin and Summers will need some time to adjust to the offensive scheme.* Hopefully, Rivers' adjustment will be a bit more seamless. Throw in the fact that PE Jr. has been practicing under the system and things are looking nice.
* Although there is a part of me that hopes these guys are so good that the offensive scheme will have to adjust to them, instead.

Great report! This kid will thrive at GU.
I find it strange that he's not that good a passer, yet he's the leader of a passed-based Princeton offense.
I like the fact that he likes to penetrate the lane.
