Winter Park won Class 6A-4 tonight with a 66-50 win over Evans HS (20-8). Rivers had 17 points in the win. They will begin play in their region on Thursday.

Winter Park returns to action on Thursday in the Class 6A tournament. They open at home against Lyman HS (13-14). Given the match-up, I think Winter Park may be the top seed in their region.

Winter Park continued its run tonight with a 52-43 win over Lyman HS. Rivers did not appear in the line score.

Rivers did not appear as a leader in points or rebounds tonight, but his team advanced in a 64-48 win over Jacksonville-Sandalwood HS (64-48). Winter Park's attack was balanced, which may reflect good distribution on Rivers' part. Winter Park improves to 25-4 on the season, with losses coming in holiday tournaments.
Winter Park will face Evans HS on Saturday. In their one game this season, WP came away with the victory. A win would put Winter Park in the state tournament.

Looks like they really got it together down there. Good for Jeremiah. Any mentions of his health Jersey?
Jeremiah Rivers --> Marcus Williams without the off the court trouble? Just throwing that out there as a possibility, maybe a best case scenario.

Florida newspapers have their priorities:
1)college football 2)college football recruiting 3)spring football 4)the NFL 5)high school football 6)NASCAR 7)spring training 8)NBA 9)MLB 10)college basketball
high school basketball falls somewhere just out of that top ten along with fishing.

In fairness, they may print box scores. Many papers do so despite the lack of online box scores. I haven't seen anything about Rivers' health but figure he's in decent shape.

we need rivers to be as advertised for next year. with a thin backcourt, he will have a chance to compete with thornton for some decent minutes. marcus williams comparisons are ridiculous though.. that guy is probably my MVP of the big east (in the true sense.. i think uconn would be just average without him). my only concern about next year is the lack of shooting. sapp's shot is getting better but apparently rivers has some room for improvement. thornton has the early advantage for cook's minutes, but like i said.. if rivers' game is as advertised i will be real happy.

Well, obviously the Marcus comparison was very optimistic by me and not something we could expect from him, but something to hope for, and not impossible. Yea, Williams is definitely one of the best points in the country and will be a good NBA player if he keeps his head on straight. However, Jeremiah is, reportedly, just as good an athlete as any prospect out there. Pass first point guard who runs the floor really, really well, and finds his teammates for open shots. Great athlete, solid defender. Decent but not great shooter. That's pretty much the scouting report on Jeremiah from what I gather, and when you look at it, it could also describe Williams. Like I said obviously Jeremiah has a long way to go, but he's got the athletecism and the genetics, he's the son of a Coach so you have to think he has the basketball IQ.... and those are the things you can't teach. The skills can be developed over his time here. So while he's probably nowhere near that level yet, it isn't outside of the realm, as a best-case.

MCIGuy's not that far off about how Florida newspapers cover sports--not that I have a problem with that order. Most game recaps for HS games follow the template: X scored X points as School X defeated the (nickname of school Y) in (city). Although if you're desperate, my sister lives in Orlando and you could probably pay her off to start clipping box scores out of the paper. And I think you are that desperate, Jersey. Funny enough, that 6A State final is pretty much the same time as the Georgetown-South Florida game, which I'll be at. My sister still knows some people at her HS who are going to come up for the 5A Final Four if their team makes it (they're the defending state champs), so she might actually be late getting into Tampa the night before.

What is the recruiting status of Jeremiah's teammates at Winter Park? Are there other high D-1 recruits on the squad? By all accounts it is a very good team...

From rivals.com, they have a 6'9'' senior named Francis Aihe (nickname obviously Francis of Aihe), who has some low DI interest. And another shooting guard named John Pietkiewicz who's listed. I don't think either are high major prospects, but it's tough to say for sure. Winter Park's league is pretty weak, from what I can gather, though they seem to be a solid team. Certainly not a national quality team, as evidenced by their losses at the holiday tourneys. To get an idea of the overall talent in florida, here's one ranking of the state's top players by class: www.powerbasketball.com/toplists.html

Winter Park seals trip to the final four www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/local/orl-hspark2606feb26,0,2013272.story "It's all a team game with us," said Rivers, a major-college recruit (Georgetown) with a major-league dad (Doc Rivers). "It's not just me going out there trying to score 30. It's moving the ball and having every player involved."

Just saw that they run a Princeton style offense. That makes me even more excited for Rivers, since he'll already understand the principles of our offense when he arrives, which should shorten his learning curve.
