I'd also note that the caliber and diversity of student body today -- compared to 30 years ago when I graduated -- is a lot higher. A lot more nerds and kids who are just not that into sports. This probably a good thing -- fewer legacy and higher standards -- overall for the University but not great for student sections.

I think any determination should wait until the program has an active pulse for the first time in 10 years

Today is the alumni takeover game. they've been selling discounted tickets to this game since December. They did a flash sale on Wednesday. We're playing the #1 team in the country. I predict at least 10K for this game.

13,040 attendance for the UConn game. Probably 30-40% UConn fans, but it seems like the alumni takeover and a faculty and staff promotion help keep the 100 level close to 80% Hoyas fans.
Not a great student turn out (maybe 1,000, but more likely in the 600 to 700 range). but after getting blown out by Butler and Marquette and consecutive home games, it’s tough to blame the student body without having a home win or near miss to provide hope and continued excitement.

At a quick glance, 13,040 looks like the highest home attendance number for a non-Syracuse game in about five years. Low bar, certainly, but a sign of slow progress.

UConn: 13,040, 12 PM, February 10, 2024 - Tuesday
Georgetown loses 89-64. The point spread closed at Hoyas +16.5
It looked like 13K in the building. I don't know what percentage were UConn fans, but they were loud throughout the game. In fact, if you were blind, it would have been hard to tell which team was doing good things. The student section looked less than full. I was lamenting this until I realized that Georgetown isn't a very good team, so why would students make the trek from campus. I believe there was also a staff/faculty section. Good turnout there. They really pulled out all the stops to get fannies in seats today and it showed. Now all we need is a decent team. Nothing will move the needle on attendance more than that. How many people show up to this game if we're just decent?

Villanova: 9,406, 7 PM, February 16, 2024 -Friday
Villanova 70, Georgetown 54
I didn't go tonight or even watch at home. Did it seem like 9000 in the building? How was the student section?

Yup. 400 section was closed but most 100 and 200 sections were 80% full.
Student turnout (I’d guess well over 500, possibly closer to 1,000. Would be helpful to know the capacity of that student section to find out. The 100 levels were full and the back half was 40-50% full), with a season that has been spare on student wins, shows that while the 4,000 that Cooley talked about may be far-fetched, there plenty of room to grow in student attendance. Outreach to students has been better than past years, and the buses from campus have been plentiful.

I could quibble about the 9,000 number but bigger problem is that SOO many Villanova fans made up the number (whatever one may think it was). Not quite as obvious as some games (UConn, anyone?) perhaps because they generally aren’t having much of a year either/have their own issues (plus I do think there are a fair # of “locals” who are Villanova fans that show up to the games here but aren’t really big fans generally) but the place was still crawling with folks wearing the “V”…And day and time wise it doesn’t get much better than a Friday at 7pm, against a longtime rival that we think we have a real chance to beat…

St. John's: 4,839, 7 PM, February 21, 2024 - Wednesday
The Hoyas fall to the Johnnies, 90-85. They never led and were down as many as 21 points in this game.

7K was my guess as I sat watching the Hoyas blow another lead in the second half. Very loud Xavier contingent behind their bench.

Providence: 5,287 PM, March 5, 2024 - Tuesday
Providence 71 - 58 Georgetown
The last home game of the season disappointed attendance-wise as many anticipated due to the day of the week and students being on spring break. Personally, I can't imagine there was any more than 4,000 in the building. There was a very loud Providence contingent that could be heard booing Ed Cooley at the beginning of the game and chanting "let's go Friars." It was embarrassing.
