Does anyone believe there was 2900 in attendance? As the old TV commercial said, "You Make The Call..." Not sustainable for a "HIGH MAJOR" program right? Embarrassing regardless of timing...finals, 8:30, blah blah blah

Does anyone believe there was 2900 in attendance? No. It might have been around 1,000 in my estimation. I sit on the opposite side of the arena from SSHoya, and concur in the about 1,000 actual estimate. P.S. the announced for the Merrimack game actually was lower (2744) — front page here probably just erased that game from memory, but it lives on in the archives of Hoyasaxa.com for Nov 29 under headline “The Fan Base that Isn’t” — but I’m pretty sure actual was lower tonight (was at both myself)

Creighton: 4,980, 7 PM January 2, 2024 - Tuesday
I was there. The crowd was decent. As usual, the second half swoon sucked the air out of the building.

Random thing that stood out watching the game. There was a point in the 1st half where nobody was sitting in the 3 rows behind the Hoyas bench. At most there were like 5 during the game. Creighton’s side was completely full. May be the surest signs the Thompson crew and hangers on are gone. Not the worst thing but still a terrible visual on TV.

This may have been discussed previously--and unlike the NFL/NHL/NBA/MLB, I don't think there's a rule, and certainly no revenue sharing--but does GU count bodies in the building, paid butts in the seats, tickets sold, make it up out of whole cloth?

It definitely isn't the first two and I don't think is #3 either. In my experience, closer to but not exactly #4 (there is a certain "pass the red face test" that acts as a limiter). This is one vestige of the old regime/Hoya Paranoia era (and maybe before, when I wasn't around) that I don't expect to change at all/transparency and truthfulness will never occur -- at least unless and until we are able to honestly report big numbers game in and game out ....

DePaul: 5,577, 12 PM, January 6, 2024 - Saturday
I don't believe there was this many people in the arena. I would guess 3500-4000 tops.

I don’t know about the raw/actual numbers, but based on the 4,000 count for the Creighton game, I was expecting to see this one listed closer to 7k. Definitely much better energy all around, and a big data point in favor of getting more tickets to elementary/middle school kids.

Just a quick note from close to ground zero: tonight’s attendance may be brutal. Cold hard rain falling all day/predicted to continue all night. Between that and foe (not a glamour school), 6:30 start, GU not back in session (but grade schools in the area are), I fear a VERY intimate gathering tonight that will make DePaul Saturday look like it was SRO. I’ll be there of course and hope other of The Faithful prove that they are indeed but ….

All students (and it sounded like faculty/employees) get two free tickets tonight, according to a Georgetown athletics post from yesterday. Hopefully that will help attendance.

Anyone know why no high school band on Saturday at Depaul? That brings as much energy as anything. Gotta have some music and good vibes to fill the void. On another note, classic Cap one move. A twenty year ticket holder was catching grief because her ticket was on her husbands phone and he was getting a beer. I vouched for her (which meant nothing) and the cap one worker relented. It is so stupid when they have hundreds of available seats. As a season ticket holder, I would encourage people to move down to fill out the lower bowl. If someone is in my seats, I would simply ask they move a few seats to the left/right/up or down. This should be something Gtown can change.

Because GU is renting the building for 2-4 hours, it abides by whatever security/usher services and rules Monumental provides. Depending on the contract, it may not be up to GU to effect that change.

Facilities like Cap One have very detailed policies and procedures for GameDay staff (part-time) for many reasons but primarily insurance and security. And all venue Licensees are subject to them. This isn't a negotiable for GU.

This isn't a negotiable for GU. That makes sense, and is a world removed from what once passed for security and game-day staffing at McDonough.
