I hear that Joe Hardy is available, and he has four years of eligibility, provided he doesn't exercise his escape clause.

Why couldn't Akok have gotten the degree from Connecticut under your scenario? That's what I figured, except for a curious item on UConn's web site about graduation dates. According to their site, "Students who do not complete requirements for the degree by one conferral date may qualify for the next conferral date by satisfactorily completing all graduation requirements. The Board of Trustees confers degrees three times annually: Commencement Day in May, August 24 and the Sunday following the end of final exams in December." This makes sense, except that Akok announced his transfer August 13, and this was before that he could have received a degree at Storrs. Maybe it was all a formality when the UConn paperwork finally came in, but the timing appeared odd, inasmuch as Akok was not in particular demand anywhere else. FWIW, WVU does not list him as a grad transfer, but as a fifth year senior "pursuing a second undergraduate degree". wvusports.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/akok-akok/17562

Second undergraduate degree means that he did get an undergraduate degree from somewhere. But doesnt want to list where he got that degree so I tend to agree with you that he got the degree from some diploma mill. And now wants to get a real undergraduate degree from west virigina. Otherwise he would be trying to get a graduate degree from WV. He did what was best for him but it really screwed us over because he did it right before the season instead of back in june when we could have found a replacement (of course he was probably waiting for summer credits to go through in order to gradute and become immediately eligible)
