Out of all of Ewing's negatives as a coach, to me the worse is lack of substitutions. Did Big John coach like this when he was on the Hilltop? I was young so I really didn't pay attention to substitution patterns. I know 3 seemed to play 7-8 players decent minutes. You would think when Ewing found out Dante was leaving he would force minutes on Anglin to attempt to develop a backup PG. No, Pops used to run players in and out because of his full court pressing and aggressive defense. Much more depth. For young Zeke’s benefit, I’ll add that JT2 also had a quick hook for ANY player who made a dumb mistake. He would scowl at the player, teach him, and put him back in after a few minutes. Contrast that to 40 minutes for a starter under Patrick Ewing ball.

I said to the guy sitting behind me that this was a frustrating but entertaining bad game. Come watch-the-car-wreck type of game. Lots of bad basketball and coaching lapses. He agreed. (Also, don't know who is responsible for the ads at Cap One but it continued to show during the game on one of the screens "Next Home Game, Georgetown v. South Carolina, 12:00, December 3rd" - incompetence on display) Someone under the Chief of Staff is to blame ultimately… it’s never the Chief of Staff’s fault…

I should not be surprised to see Ewing get dominated by #23 in red

Tough loss, but I will accept it. Our guys played hard, played excellent team ball, and most importantly, they seem to be understanding their roles. I look forward to see how they grow and improve.

Not sure if anyone asked this question - but why did (I believe Spears) foul toward the end of regulation while the shot clock was running down. And why wasn't anyone told to get down court and act as a safety before Heath committed that foul. In my opinion the non-dunk by "Q" and the flagrant have to be overcome mentally before this team can move forward. Moved from the "current status" thread since it's actually about basketball, and not Ewing's weaknesses. This is actually a great question that I didn't see raised, but thought during the game. There were about 25 seconds left in regulation, with about 12-13 on the shot clock when Spears fouled. We would have likely gotten the ball back with 15 or so, and South Carolina is not a good shooting team. It made no sense at all. Nor did our failure to get down the court. Either way, if Heath was going to foul on the play where he pulled the jersey, wait for the guy to start shooting and then clobber him. I know it's hard to make decisions in real time, etc. but I don't think pulling a jersey is ever the right play. I mean, that obviously falls on Heath, but our coach not knowing that pulling a jersey is a flagrant is a problem of another order.

Our coach’s lack of clock management and substitutions cost us games.

"Offense - Fail I am sticking with P/F grades for the offense and defense, and I give the offense another Fail for one primary reason. 75% of Georgetown’s shots came at the rim or from 3 (ShotQuality). That is exactly on par with their season average, which is 357th in CBK. They also only had 10 assists in this game, and an Assist/Made FG rate of 35% is abysmal. Their season average is 43% which puts them 316th in college basketball. The D-1 average is 51%...so, yeah, I guess two reasons for the fail. Defense - Fail Very close to a pass for me, but just not good enough in the end. Looking at the same rim and 3 stat from shot quality. South Carolina got 91% of their shots at the rim or from 3 in this game. They typically get 84%. So Georgetown just did a really bad job of forcing them into bad shots and allowed them to get to the rim and kick for open threes. They also really struggled against GG Jackson in the second half. That’s not inherently a problem because he is really-really good, but at a certain point, you have to either stop him or not get beat by both him and Meetchie Johnson (who is decidedly less good). They tried zone late in the second, which I think helped, but they needed to go to that sooner. Coaching - Fail I am also going to grade coaching P/F, and boy, was it a fail in, and after, this one. Not playing Denver Anglin when you desperately need three-point shooting is just an ongoing problem. But the weird offense/defense substitution with him coming in for 30 seconds on the defensive end is just baffling. After-time-out sets are typically a good way to judge coaching. Basically, the theory is the first play after a time out, the coach is setting up something specific that they think is most likely to be successful. It’s pretty intuitive and would not shock you to learn that Georgetown is not particularly good in ATO sets. In this game. Georgetown had 13 ATO possessions, they scored .750 points per possession on those. South Carolina had 17 for .813 points per possession. That’s getting beat pretty substantially. The switch to zone when GG Jackson was absolutely destroying you in the second half was a good decision, but it came way too late, in my estimation. And then there are the post-game comments. I encourage you to listen to the full comments. But, yeah, I didn’t like it." www.casualhoya.com/2022/12/6/23496484/game-grades-hoyas-cant-get-extra-credit-in-s-carolina-gamecocks-exam-spears-murray-heath-akok-wahab

We lost to these guys, at home: "After scoring just nine points and committing three turnovers in a two point loss, Jackson took his frustrations to Instagram Live. As fans chimed in on the comments, the 18-year old began to spew remarks about his coach and team that certainly won't help his NBA Draft stock. “Can you help me answer that question, Chris bro?" Jackson responded as someone chiming in about the game. "Why don’t I have the ball in my hands when it’s crunch time, bro? Ain’t I supposed to be this 'oh my God it’s GG Jackson!' I don’t see myself as that but ain’t I supposed to be quote-unquote 'that'? Just give me that motherf*****. S*** is crazy bro, for real." Down by just one point with less than ten seconds remaining, South Carolina went to senior transfer Hayden Brown on a backdoor cut which got him a good look at the rim. But Brown missed the go-ahead shot leading to an Arkansas rebound. "I am not even getting plays drawn up for me in the crunch time, bro," Jackson continued... "Xavier, I don’t even know what I am going to do next year. But I am thinking about staying, bro," Jackson responded to 2023 five-star Xavier Booker who chimed in on the comments telling him to join him at Michigan State next season. "I don’t know. I am about to come in the locker room how Lou Williams said Kobe did, ‘every time I come down the court I touch the f****** ball!’" Jackson added. "I can’t even transfer next year, if I stay. I already betrayed one school, bro. I can’t do it to another, bro.” 247sports.com/Article/gg-jackson-south-carolina-social-media-nba-draft-nba-scouts-204422924/

Don't tell me the odds. Yes, they are coming off a 24 point loss to GW - but Georgetown is coming off an 0-20 BE season. I don't think people fully and truly appreciate how bad the Hoyas are. Yes, 99% of this board is negative but the reality is that the Hoyas are even worse than this board realizes. This is a historically bad team. We can debate if Patrick Ewing is the worst coach any of us have ever seen, but he is without a doubt the worst coach to ever keep his job at any place that has ever been serious program (especially several years into a job) There is no team from any of the conferences that get at-large bids that Georgetown should beat. Anytime they do, it is a significant upset. Think about this: I think it is very possible Georgetown doesn't win another game this season. Ewing isn't getting fired. Might as well celebrate close losses to any team from a big conference where the Hoyas are able to stay in it. That's about as good as it is going to get. Your post gets my vote for the most depressing of the year. I hope, along with most here, that you are wrong. Well, the Hoyas actually won another game since my post… but I think you gotta say I was 99% right. I’m taking a W

Social media has had such horrible effects on our society. Especially for youth. I feel bad for the generations that know nothing before it.
Instead of just venting to friends and family, kids these days hop on Instagram live and air out their dirty laundry for the public to hear.
