Georgetown faces off against South Carolina at noon, on Saturday December 3, 2022 in Washington, DC at Capital One Arena. The game will be on Fox Sports 1.
South Carolina is one of the few high major teams ranked below Georgetown on KenPom and most analytics sites. In fact, Georgetown is even a 64% favorite according to KenPom. This, and the Siena game are the only two remaining games where KenPom says we are favored to win, so this is a very winnable game for our Hoyas.
South Carolina does little well. They are abysmal shooting team, shooting 32.3% from three (ranked 220), 42.6% from two (335th), and an awful 62.9% from the line. They are about middle of the pack in 3 point attempts. They also turn it over a fair amount (ranked 262 on that). Really the only area they've been pretty good is offensive rebounds. Their highest usage player so far is freshman Gregory Jackson, who shoots a lot, and isn't terribly efficient (95.3 O rating, which isn't good but a lot of other guys are worse). Put simply, South Carolina's offense stinks. They are ranked 229 on offense and score .989 points per possession.
On the defensive end, they are ranked 108, but still, not much to speak of. They do block a fair amount of shots, but they got very few steals and force very few turnovrs on defense. They do not foul a lot.
This is a very winnable game, especially playing at home. The guys need to go out and get this one.

I have tickets to this game and I honestly don’t want to go. It depresses me to say that but why should I make the hour trip into DC, pay for parking, food, etc. to support a program that is so lost and unwilling to make the obviously necessary changes?
And I have no problem supporting my teams when they stink. I’m a die hard Orioles fan and they’ve stunk for at least 75% of my life.
If anybody wants two free tickets to the game let me know!

If anyone wants to know the temperature of the fan base a game thread that is 15 hours old has 1 reply and that one is giving away free tickets and nobody has taken them up. Things have to change.

Winnable game, especially given they got absolutely pasted by GW. Of course, now I expect the Cocks to go 18-36 from 3 against us, while we go 2-20 and lose by 10 or more, but we'll see. I saw enough in that 18-0 run vs. TT to give me hope, and perhaps it's driving me insane.
We've seen some bright stretches, even some good halves, we just need to put it together for more than a half. Even a solid, prolonged 30-35 min stretch could be enough to win this one, as long as we don't completely melt down in the other 5-10 minutes (which of course, I'd expect given our track record).
One way or the other, I'm ready to either be optimistic or go into full blown meltdown mode over the next 3 games. Can't wait to see what happens. Go Hoyas.

I have tickets to this game and 3 others. I drive 2 hours to DC. I agree, if it wasn't for getting together with friends and dinner afterwards in Penn Quarter I'd probably be trying to get rid of my tickets. I usually drive down for 4-5 games a year but if things don't improve (i.e. Ewing fired and a competent replacement found) I probably won't be going to more than 1-2 games next year.

I know we are not playing well but it surprises me that the spread is that big.

Yes. As of right now, the only games we will be favored by the sports book odds are against South Carolina and Siena. Unless we get better, we will either be about even or a big underdog going once we finish with South Carolina and Siena.

We will be lucky to have 25 people at this game as it overlaps with the US World Cup Elimination Game vs the Netherlands

I will tape the game and watch the USMNT this morning. My hope for this game is to see a repeat of the ball movement that characterized the Hoya offense in the first 5 minutes against Texas Tech, and the defense that they showed during their 2nd half run. Hoping that Riley can play and that Ewing finally understands that playing 3-4 players for 32+ minutes is going to wear his team down late in games. If a player is off and going through a scoring drought and not contributing on defense (Heath, Murray, Primo, Mozone and Wahab have all had their turns)--try someone else for a few minutes. This is not last year's team. We have more talent, more pieces and fewer holes. Not great, but notably better.
We need a PG who gets all his teammates involved all the time. Primo (as well as Murray and Heath) has that ability and has shown it, but needs to understand that this role is as "heroic" as trying to force shots and dribble through 3-4 defenders to win games by himself. At some point there has to be in-game accountability for sloppy play, selfish play and lack of effort on the court. There are no "stars" on this team. I believe that these kids can be a decent team. They just need to be coached, not coddled. Coach them Coach.

I will tape the game and watch the USMNT this morning. I was thinking the other day about how Patrick Ewing has changed my Hoya Basketball (and college basketball in general) viewing habits. It used to be that our Hoya games were sacred for me. My girlfriend at the time understood it and, when we married, she didn’t try to change it. Family activity, other than children’s birthdays, weddings, etc…, didn’t include me during game times. After last season’s debacle, I began recording the games and watching them as quickly as possible at a later time. People 😉 noticed. Also, as to college basketball in general, I used to watch some BE game to take a look at our competition and some big college matchups to see what the best were doing. This year, I haven’t watched a single minute of a college game not involving Georgetown. Why watch? We know what is missing; we know what works in college basketball. Pat is the one who doesn’t have a clue. Anyway, my wife is happy. Thanks, Pat. 😒

I will be at the game today. A friend of mine is attending the game with me and bringing her nephew. She told me that he's washed his Hoya sweatshirt in anticipation of the game. Gotta love his optimism before he becomes a jaded adult.
BTW, the Ultra Club at Cap One is open at 10 am for all who wish to watch the World Cup. Entrance at 7th & G Street.
