It is absurd that there is no decision on this waiver yet. I believe if there was an adverse decision, the rumors would be out at this point. Crazy stuff.
Given that Bradley Hayes got a fifth year under the old rules despite appearing in twenty-five games during his first two years, one would think Heath ought to get a "coming home" waiver now. It would be a huge boost to have him.

Totally agree. The NCAA is as bad an organization as there is. Absolutely zero reason a decision should take this long and it’s wrong to the kid and the team to not let them know this long.

Starting to think his transfer may be similar to Damaria Franklin's where his former school hasn't given the sign-off. I'm not defending the NCAA but it is there to enforce the rules set by the schools themselves.. www.commercialappeal.com/story/sports/college/memphis-tigers/2022/10/19/memphis-basketball-damaria-franklin-uic-luke-yaklich-penny-hardaway/69547098007/Johnnie Franklin said Yaklich agreed to sign a “no participation opportunity” (NPO) form – also referred to as a “run-off waiver” and a precursor to an NCAA rubber stamp. Hardaway, in similar situations, has signed NPO form for every player who has transferred during his tenure, including former guards and two-time transfers Tyler Harris and Landers Nolley II, a source told The Commercial Appeal. Harris (South Florida) and Nolley (Cincinnati) each transferred to AAC programs after last season.

Information on how the transfer waiver policy works: ncaaorg.s3.amazonaws.com/committees/d1/clr/D1CLR_TransferWaiverProcess.pdfLooks like the following considerations are in play, as defined by the NCAA: 1. Mitigation (i.e., egregious behavior, mental health, run-off); 2. Academic records; and 3. Previous school's position Assuming Arizona State is stating that it wanted him to stay with the program (a very reasonable assertion) and did not act egregiously toward him, Heath needs to show some sort of academic and/or mental health reason for a waiver.

Heath was going to be one of his best returning players in a critical year for Hurley's Arizona State career. As such, the "run-off" waiver does not apply, if Arizona State doesn't wish to grant it. Therefore, Heath/Georgetown has to come up with some other rationale to justify immediate participation.

Players shouldn't be prevented from playing at a new school because of abuses by coaches. Kicking players off of scholarship and forcing them to transfer to other schools because you are a terrible coach who can't recruit or develop players and need a scapegoat to save your job is a bad thing. Worth asking yourself why ASU isn't signing the waiver, if that is really what is holding this up. Heath was in the portal for 5 days (April 25->April 30th). Most programs sign them as a courtesy even if someone isn't being run off.

"We’re excited to bring in Jay Heath - he adds versatility and scoring. His experience and toughness will make him a key part of our team next season” - Head Coach Patrick Ewing on Jay Heath www.casualhoya.com/2022/4/30/23050842/hoya-saxa-transfer-guard-jay-heath-commits-to-georgetown-arizona-state-boston-college-patrick-ewingAlso the official Georgetown Hoops Twitter feed has highlighted Heath in hyping non-conference games: Maybe the NCAA is interested in enforcing its rules particularly when programs knowingly put the cart before the horse?

Bottom line is the schools could get rid of this issue if they wanted to...

Had the same thought about Georgetown not signing off on Walker's waiver to Danny Hurley's old school, sometimes karma comes back to bite you, like when you want a waiver from his brother. (just to be clear here - Cox was the coach when Walker transferred to URI, I don't think this is out of spite for the Walker waiver, but if you expect waivers from other schools, you should probably be providing them in all situations)

In this case, ASU/Hurley are taking the calculated risk that there is little to lose by denying the waiver. And, the reality is, they're probably right. We know that Ronny Thompson/Patrick Ewing are not well-connected in the college coaching/AAU scene and Georgetown's assistants are not very well-regarded either. Once Ewing gets fired, Baldwin will try to find a way to latch on to another middling high major program, as will Nickleberry. Crouch will probably go back to being a DC-based fitness instructor/AAU guy. None of the individuals on Thompson's/Ewing's staff, either by themselves or through connections, can do anything to harm Bobby Hurley's career. So Hurley is probably saying screw it, I'm not playing along. That being said, if the Hurleys were really thinking strategically, it would probably be best for Heath to get a waiver and help Thompson/Ewing save their jobs. The longer Thompson/Ewing are at Georgetown, the easier UCONN will have it in the Big East.

Is it confirmed that this is an issue regarding "run off waivers"? Or are we just in speculation land that apparently the Hurleys are conspiring against Ewing because of something that (may or may not have) happened several years ago?

So, if he does not get the waiver now, is he available right after this semester’s finals in December?
