The headline to the official press release says “Hoyas add Jay Heath to 2022-23 Roster”
Not sure if that means anything

The headline to the official press release says “Hoyas add Jay Heath to 2022-23 Roster” Not sure if that means anything Unfortunately, I don't think so. Transfers - whether they are eligible to play immediately or not - are part of the roster and take one of the 13 scholarships. So, his being listed on the roster doesn't really tell us much. The other avenue to immediate eligibility would be if he finished his college degree before transferring, but I see no indication of that. While I hope Heath does get immediate eligibility, it would sort of make a mockery of the one free transfer rule if anybody who transferred a second time got a waiver.

He wanted to be close to family, so perhaps that can influence the NCAA.

I think the year he left BC was right after they had fired the head coach. Normally the NCAA gives players a "free" transfer if there is a coaching change. This year I am sure he is hoping he gets another free transfer because basically everyone else is getting a free transfer.
I don't know of the coaching change transfer has any impact, but it might. I guess we will find out at tip off of that first OOC game.

He played regular minutes at ASU. Unless he really was unhappy there, it seems odd that he would transfer without some sense he’d be eligible for a waiver. Sitting out a year is an eternity these days.

When guys move back to programs near their home, there's usually a compelling family narrative that goes in with the waiver application ... or at least I think there's an opportunity to lean on "family reasons." But really ... isn't leaving a team coached by Bobby Hurley reason enough?

We need this kid to get a waiver…would likely be one of our top 2 scorers.

I think that all of our new transfers has made this Heath news (or lack thereof) fly a bit under the radar. It was reported at media day today that Georgetown is still waiting an eligibility decision on Heaths waiver. Now that we're only a few weeks from getting going - this is increasingly becoming a concern. Heath would be expected to be a key cog. A starter. Likely our best 3 point marksman. If he does not get the waiver then our backcourt changes drastically, with Murray likely sliding over to the 2 and needing Mozone to be a starter at the 3 from the jump. Please give us some good news and soon NCAA.

My preference would be for Heath to come off the bench if eligible. He seemed okay but I wasn’t as impressed with him as I was with Mozone and Bradley e0 at Kenner.

Heath is a proven guard in two Power 5 conferences in the actual season over numerous years and you prefer a guy from some small college and another who got a handful of minutes last year because of Kenner play? Kaiden Rice had size too and that didn't work out so well with him moving up in competition. Grant it I do feel Mozone is way better than Rice. I'll take Heath as my starter any day and all day. Not like Heath didn't play well in Kenner for that matter. Not like Bradley would have any impact on Heath anyway but Mozone at the 3 could. I would prefer to start Heath as my PG over Harris or Spears but even with one of them as PG I would take Heath.

(That’s the same assist percentage as Murray who we all agree is a off guard or small forward and not a point guard) www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/jay-heath-1.htmlTo me that indicates an off guard which is why I think he is better off coming off the bench and having the bigger Murray start as the off guard.

Those stats are based off of him being an off the ball guard so he wasn't asked to distribute. He is a very capable ball handler and if Primo and Dante are going to play like they did last year where they were shoot first then I put Heath at PG. If one of them is asked to be a true PG and plays differently than what we have seen of them then I move Heath over. In that scenario if Mozone shows that he doesn't have a drop off playing against better competition I see your point as the bigger lineup can cause some issues but day 1 Heath is my starter. Heath is probably our best 3% shooter until Denver shows he can do it at the college level. He opens things up more for Murray and the guys down low. Mozone could have a say in who the best shooter is if he adjusts to the better competition. You could always have Heath, Murray and Mozone starting too which would give a lot of size. I would imagine Ewing will go with Primo or Dante though in the beginning.
