They certainly rebuilt that coaching staff in a very reasonable period of time...although I am surprised that they weren't able to lure Jay Wright out of retirement for a less pressured gig with the possibility of ascending to the head coaching position in short order.

Happy with the new assistants, hopefully improve both our recruiting and our teaching (defense!).

Wow. Ward & Murray would be two locals. Throw in about three to four more transfers and we are cooking with gasoline. Figure we need Bates at the 5, one of these guards and a power forward to get it going.

Could you please give a little more info on who Ward is and why this hire seems to be important in his recruitment? Thanks, it is hard to keep track of all of this.

Yes please, can we correct the name of the thread?
Tremendous news. Was hoping for the Nickelberry/Brooks combo from the outset. Really had hoped they would have announced it last night at the banquet to drum up some good feels, but with the staff now complete, Antoine Davis and MAM on campus today, and Omier hopefully visiting in a few days, this is some serious positive momentum. Fingers crossed that some commitments are imminent.

Got a chuckle out of this post from the Va Tech board: "If they had 13 two stars it would be better than that dumpster fire they put on the court last season."

Ward is a top 30 senior forward at DeMatha that we recruited prior to his eventual commitment to Xavier (where Brooks was director of recruiting). From what I've read, they just have a really good relationship and go way back. He was the main reason Ward committed to (and decommited from) X.

This seems like a nice hire, and Brooks also brings significant youth to a program whose staff generally is on the older side. Does anybody know if Brooks had anything to do with Xavier's offensive or defensive schemes? Ewing clearly has made upgrades on the recruiting front with Nickelberry and Brooks (and maybe Crouch - hard to say since he hasn't been an assistant before). But, I still am hoping there's someway the program can improve its on the court X's and O's. A complete staff overhaul is one way to do that (though Orr will likely still be coaching in some capacity and Crouch was also part of the staff that put out last year's scheme), but much of what we have at least heard has been focusing on recruiting.
Upgrading our talent level will clearly improve our performance, and is a key factor. So I am glad Georgetown and Ewing are doing that, but I would like to see a commitment to some sort of new defensive scheme. I am hoping maybe Nickelberry or Brooks can help do that.

I'm sure *checks notes* "Gokies17" has the inside scoop on Ward and Brooks relationship and recruitment... ๐ค ๐

Thrilled with the hire. Wish it would have happened a few weeks ago, though I understand they had to make a play for Pegues. I love that we're really trying to nail down the area.
I'm kinda puzzled by the sentiment that we're now going to get Tyrell Ward. I definitely do not think this is a "Hire Brooks, get Ward" situation. He is not Ward's guardian or handler or something, they just have a good relationship. It might get us a look, but Ward is visiting LSU, UF, VA Tech and others this week. I don't think we just vault to the front of the line because he's close with Brooks. And I think Brooks brings a lot more to the table than just the fact that he was close with a Top 50 recruit. He should be a good recruiter of the area regardless of what happens with Ward.

It would be nice to know what kind of commitments are being made to these assistants. Got to believe that they had other options and would not seemingly take a one-year prove it deal with the Hoyas but would want some security in case Ewing was fired. Maybe my assumption is incorrect.
