It would be nice to know what kind of commitments are being made to these assistants. Got to believe that they had other options and would not seemingly take a one-year prove it deal with the Hoyas but would want some security in case Ewing was fired. Maybe my assumption is incorrect. IMHO apply Occam's razor. Ewing is never getting fired. Thus, the assistants have at least some security, i.e., the length of his contract extension.

Since GU’s current administration, the same one for the last 20 years, doesn’t know how to conduct a national search for a coach, then when Ewing departs, the $4M job may fall on one of the current assistants. Bet on the one closest to The Fam. It’s not a bad spot to be in when Pat is one year off Wright’s retirement age and Nickelberry is close too.

Is this done? No one else is reporting it. Hilltop Hoops says not a done deal (yet).

IMHO apply Occam's razor. Ewing is never getting fired. Thus, the assistants have at least some security, i.e., the length of his contract extension. Occam's Razor is not DeGioia's Razor. Ask Craig Esherick, one year into a six year extension. Ask John Thompson III, with $9M remaining on his deal. Aside from John Thompson, every Georgetown coach since World War II (Ripley, O Grady, Jeannette, Nolan, O'Keefe, Magee, Esherick, JT III) has been fired or encouraged to leave. Whether it was complete risk aversion, the institution's longtime friendship with Ewing, or a fear that the ghost of JT would haunt the place, Georgetown apparently extended the deal despite any evidence to the affirmative. But everyone knows this goes one of two ways: either Ewing turns around the ship and wins back the ticket buying revenues and donors, or the situation continues to deteriorate, the institutional tea kettle boils over and a buyout is ordered. At that point, GU issues a "well, we tried to give him every opportunity" backstory and Patrick retires with millions more than what he came in with and Georgetown rebuilds from the bottom of the Big East. The elephant in the room is that there is no succession planning. Craig Esherick is the only assistant moved into the Georgetown head coach's role in 60+ years. A new coach means everyone goes, everyone, which is why the basketball office will fight back against any talk of a buyout next season. And if Ewing surprised everyone with an NBA offer and walks out the door, Georgetown has no Plan B and hasn't conducted an truly open coaching search in, well, a long time. As for the assistants, Georgetown didn't retain Chuck Driesell or Jaren Jackson in 2004, or Anthony Solomon and Kevin Broadus in 2017. It's the nature of the position--no job security. With LaVall Jordan and Travis Steele gone, the warm seats shift to Ewing and Mike Anderson, at least in the press if they do not perform. Georgetown PR will avoid any talk or semblance of concern whatsoever on Ewing until it becomes absolutely, positively untenable not to do so, which is exactly what it did in 2004 and 2017. What may prove interesting is how the University resets the measures of success if GU takes a back seat with St. John's, or if DePaul begins to make upward moves.

OK, I don’t really disagree, but our coaches, to my knowledge, were fired on the downswing. I don’t think one has to be a peerless prognosticator to predict that we will be better next year. The question is “how much.” If we’re .500 or better overall and win 6-8 games in the BE, I’m guessing that will show enough of an upswing to preserve the status quo, warranted or not.

But what's the inbound revenue? How many donors are walking away in FY22 and won't be back next year? How much can the University eat in deficit spending? It's one thing to spend $14 million a year when you're playing Kansas in the Final Four, quite another when there's 3,500 a game in paid attendance.

Brooks is a elite recruiter. Can we please fix the title of this thread to his actual first name? Please name some of the elite recruits Brooks procured for his previous employers. Nickleberry was fired after failing as head coach at Howard. He was fired from LSU as the university moved away from proven cheater Will Wade’s staff. Brooks was fired from Xavier as the university moved away from Travis Steele’s failure of a tenure. The idea that we significantly upgraded our assistant coaching ranks enough to prop up the failure of Patrick Ewing is a pipe dream, based on the hiring of these guys and the promotion of Crouch. None of these guys has been part of a successful high major college basketball coaching staff.

"We" have a close professional colleague named John Brooks, so when "our" brain said type "Jordan", "our" hands typed "John." "We" hope the typo did not cause too much antacid consumption as a result.

I assumed we had hired Wolfsburg and US Mens National Team center back John Brooks to an AC role.

Don't sell your colleague short! If he can package himself with a 4* recruit in the portal, Georgetown would be interested.

It doesn't matter what the thread is. Coaches, players, program, your mother, whatever. You're not only a clown, you're clown that has nothing better to do with his sad life than post negative comments on message boards. Even if everything you said was true (and to be sure, it's not), the point would still hold: you have sad and depressing life, and the overwhelming majority of this board can't stand you. Which part isn’t true?
