I get this to an extent, on the other hand I feel like unless we hired someone from the Chris Beard tree there would be this complaint about a defensive specialist. In reality, how many teams announce a defensive coordinator where it's known which assistant is responsible for defense? Who really would've been a good hire to explicitly address this defense demand. I appreciate Nickelberry and Brooks are being touted for their recruiting, and then the presumption is they don't have any Xs and Os experience. Yes Nickelberry's stint at Howard was difficult but he worked at LSU for two seasons. Defensive efficiency for last three years: Year before Nickelberry: 185 Year 1: 116 Year 2: 8 LSU primarily changed their defensive scheme to switch screens as much as anyone in the country and it had a huge effect. I cant find an article that attributes the change to any one assistant. If you can find one, I'll stand corrected. Could it have been Nickelberry? Even if it wasn't Nickelberry, do we not think he knew what they were doing and could help implement it here? To me the bigger question is whether Ewing is really willing to listen to outside voices. But to presume Nickelberry and Brooks won't bring ideas just because they weren't explicitly called out as a defensive assistant seems harsh. Ewing has made it clear he doesn't think the problem is scheme. I disagree, less so on offense and way more on defense but this will be a good test to see if the scheme even looks different. All fair points. Again I think overall Brooks’ hire would be a net positive. I’m excited on the recruiting front. I just hope these guys can get in Pat’s ear in terms of our scheme too. We still don't know (for sure) that we have Brooks.

I’ll hang up and listen Ward because he definitely has a lot of potential especially after his rise in the last year of HS.... also no more tweets from particular someone I imagine that if we get ward then Aminu is definitely done right?

The 2 of them + Murray on the court together would be a whole lotta fun to watch. *Dematha, Archbishop Carroll, Poly High (old school gtown)

Ward being 6'7+ and able to shoot helps. Theoretically they'd be able to share the floor in my opinion

Significant that article refers to Brooks as the new Assistant Coach.

Whitmore isn't leaving Villanova. Ward seems like he is probably coming so not sure there is a choice.

We’re paying Brooks to yield Ward just like we paid Nickleberry to yield Murray. Any moral superiority a Hoya fan ever felt they had is officially over and done with.

If we win, it’ll all be worth it. 😎👍🏻 As long as we don’t hear any more about deflated basketballs and causes greater than winning college basketball games, that’s cool. Because we have sold our soul as a program to prop up Ewing. We’ll be better than 0-20. We might go .500 this year in the Big East given the talent upgrades. Murray and Ward will leave as soon as they can. Will that make people happy?

In fact there is probably 200+ programs that have sold their sole one way or another. UWM just sold their soul to have Patrick Baldwin around for one mediocre year and there is dozens upon dozen of other examples from Power 6 to mid majors that have done the same. Yes your right we are no longer the morally superior program in the country any more as I guess you once saw it....
