Isn't a Friday night game for the Hoyas unusual? It seems that the Ivies do that all the time. Yes unusual but when you think of it pretty smart. I bet this is a trial balloon to see if they can't generate more student attendance as well as pick up some of the Friday night Penn Quarter traffic. Of course Omicron makes this less of a true test. You know, when I think about it, for all you geezers out there didn't we used to play Friday night games in the 60's at McDonough? Students can't move back into the dorms until the 11th to most students won't be around yet. Also it sounds like the first two weeks of class may be virtual, so students really not back until around the 23rd to 25th.

So a “we’re back” reel gets posted of a team practice w/o Wayne Bristol. Followed shortly thereafter by an announcement that he’s committed. Obviously we all want to know if he’s eligible during these challenging times. Is it so hard to communicate the obvious?

Marquette looking good against Provvy. Hopefully they come into DC over confident.

We're in trouble if they play like they're playing tonight. Wow - 35 points ahead and making it look easy.

(sorry, had to ) I only watched parts of the PC/Quette game last night. Marquette got off to a quick start and then PC seemed to real them back in a little in the middle of the first half. Sounds like Marquette really took over the game later in the first half and then finished strong. I think all of the Big East teams have some holes in their rosters and you will see a lot of surprises and upsets as the year goes on.

(sorry, had to ) Cooley's by far the most overrated coach in the conference and one of the most overrated coaches in the country. Last night was classic Cooley. Providence makes it into the Top 25 for the first time in 6 years and gets smoked by an 0-4 Big East team.

Didn't watch the game. Does anyone know if Provy was at full strength? Can't believe they could be blown out if they were.

Marquette was 0-4 but could have easily been 2-2. PC had been firing on all cylinders and were due for a clunker. These two teams are closer than their records would have indicated in my opinion.
Still think talent wise UConn, Nova, and SHU are a notch above everyone else. Second tier is PC, Xavier, Creighton, and maybe MU? Then I’d group SJ, Butler, DePaul, and us.

Didn't watch the game. Does anyone know if Provy was at full strength? Can't believe they could be blown out if they were. I saw most of the game, turning it off with about 8 minutes left in second half because there was no coming back from that beat down. Yes. Providence was at full strength at least in terms of available players. Marquette was definitely impressive, playing with energy on both offense and defense. Make no mistake, Providence helped them. They showed no real fight in the game. The analysts could not help but note their lethargy. It should knock their fan base down a peg or two, as most of them believed their AP ranking was too low.

They were missing a starter in Reeves so not quite full strength. He broke his finger and is out for a while.

Marquette: The Golden Eagles have had a strange season. They were young, but came out strong with wins over Illinois (minus Kofi Cockburn), Ole Miss and West Virginia. The losses to the Bonnies, Wisconsin and UCLA are all very respectable. The 0-3 Big East start was disastrous, but then Marquette roared back and beat Providence. That should give the Golden Eagles hope. This squad can hang with anyone in the Big East. Bid potential: The wins will look good at season’s end, but the losses will be too many to overcome. This could be an NIT championship team. www.ncaa.com/news/basketball-men/article/2022-01-05/mens-basketball-teams-need-step-it-entering-2022

Reeves is a decent player, but only averages 10 ppg on 39% shooting and barely contributes through rebounding and assists. Overall, he's been a major disappointment over the course of his Providence career, certainly relative to his recruiting rankings.
Missing Reeves is not the difference between Providence winning and getting an 88-56 beatdown by Marquette. Shaka Smart > Ed Cooley and it's not particularly close.

You can’t dominate one of the greats and be that bad of a coach imo. 😉
