What happened to Patrick was an anomaly (the mass exodus) and it truly affected the program adversely. No one can deny that fact. However, Ewing would have been able to quickly recoup if he would have consider the transfer market instead of spending too much time chasing 18 year olds who ultimately chose to go elsewhere. I wished that he had gone with the transfer portal strategy that I spoke of even back then. The question is how do you fix it now now that he is at the end of his contract and looking at another inexperience team who obviously won't be moving up the ladder of the Big East anytime soon or at least not this year. It’s not an anomaly. He has lost the highest recruit of each of his recruiting classes and that trend will continue if Aminu leaves after this year. Talking about Aminu, let’s not forget Harmon called our interior players “finesse” and he meant soft. Aminu may leave and that is understandable. I personally think he should stay another year and get that jumper worked on first before he jumps for the NBA. As far as our interior players, we don't have any. Mohammed and Colin are our interior players. I think coach needs to go back to his big man philosophy. I think he needs to get Big Tim more involved on the offensive end. I don't think Big Tim should be the focal point but it would be nice if he can work on posting up and getting a few baskets a game. We need Big Tim mostly on interior defense, shot blocking and rebounding (both offense and defense). If Big Tim can get a few post moves together by the end of the year, maybe coach can expand his game next year.

I think coach really needs to think about playing twin towers for a few stretches a game and maybe allow Mutombo to stretch his game to the three point line.

Personally, I think that Ewing didn't want to have Mutombo embarrassed as he knew the guys were not ready for Marquette. I think he did Mutombo a favor by not playing him. I too feel that as Ryan’s adopted uncle, Ewing was protecting him from being embarrassed by a much more athletic team. I think Georgetown’s legacy of having the sons of its most famous players(Ewing,Mourning, & Mutombo) follow their dads to Georgetown and play is a good thing that it should be proud of. Their fathers should be louder for steering their sons to their school. However, truth be told, the most talented of the offsprings was Ewing own son Pat Jr. Ryan seems to be a great kid and may become a good power forward with his ability to shoot the ball away from the basket, but he is not a center, does not seem to have the makeup physically or mentally for the position. I had envisioned him playing power forward along side of Tre King this year, but with King gone he has been forced to play the 5 position which he is not suited for. When Tim comes back I hope Ewing let’s them play together, if he can handle his defensive assignments

After Pickett, Blair & Wahab which individual players are you thinking of? Mac (when healthy) showed serious improvement between years one and two. Jagan improved in multiple facets of the game.. Yurtseven was a much better player here than at NC State. Holloway looks really solid right now. Carey looks like a much better player than he was at Sienna, and Bile was a night and day much better player at Gtown despite the improved competition. The only guys who have stuck around that I question why they aren’t way better are Tim and Wilson. It begs the question how much of this is experience vs GU staff really making an impact. But on the whole I don’t think the problem has been development, it’s been the lack of true star power and their sudden exits from the team once they reach that threshold. Definitely don’t agree with you on Mac & Y7, too early to judge with Holloway(do like his game though) agree on Jagan & Carey… I do agree though that without player retention it’s hard to build consistency within the program..

Regarding when te defense turned better last year. I think it was somewhere around 2/9, when we lost at Creighton, but due to atrociously bad shooting on our part. We held Creighton to 63. Between then and the BET, we looked like this:
2/9/2021 L 48-63 Creighton Washington, DC McDonough Gym 0 Pickett, 16 2/13/2021 W 78-63 Butler Washington, DC McDonough Gym 0 Bile, 17 2/20/2021 W 81-75 Seton Hall Washington, DC McDonough Gym 0 Pickett, 20 2/23/2021 L 57-70 Connecticut Washington, DC McDonough Gym 0 Wahab, 18 2/27/2021 W 68-60 at DePaul Chicago, IL Wintrrust Arena 0 Bile, 19 3/2/2021 W 72-66 Xavier Washington, DC McDonough Gym 0 Pickett,18 3/6/2021 L 82-98 at Connecticut Storrs, CT Gampel Pavilion 0 Blair, 22
Thank you GU Basketball History Project for making that easy to show.
Only Seton Hall scored more than 70 against us, and that was in their loss. UNTIL that last anomalous UConn regular season fiasco.
If I remember right, there was a "players only" come to Jesus meeting somewhere near the beginning of that run. Let's hope for such a meeting between Marquette and Thursday.
