Aminu is such a beast on the offensive glass. He reminds me of Marcus Smart on offensive glass and disrupting after the other team starts to move up court. But, needs to stop abandoning his man on the wing.

Aminu drawing a lot of defensive attention, like American game. This helps open things up a lot for others.

And obvious observation but we do not defend the 3 point line well at all. Nor the pick and roll. This score is more indicative of how poorly Siena shot (mostly open uncontested threes) than how well we played defensively. Young team, sure; but we will get drummed in Big East play if it doesn’t improve.

What the one-handed free throw? Usually that's a remedy when it's obvious the guide hand is causing side spin on the shot. You do drills where you only shoot with one hand to get proper backspin and the feel of it. So they told him to remove that part to keep his shot on line. Props to Malcolm for being willing to do it in game because you know people gonna clown you for it.

This score is more indicative of how poorly Siena shot (mostly open uncontested threes) than how well we played defensively. Young team, sure; but we will get drummed in Big East play if it doesn’t improve. It will improve. They have been improving not only between games but in games. Last year it took 2 months for players to start to adjust, this year they are doing it right away. Still a lot of work to do. Patrick gets his teams improving in season. Agree with horrible rotations and over help leaving wide open shooters on the wings. But, Hoyas covered Dartmouth much better on the wing (they were making a lot of well covered tough shots) as well as American. If the other team can't shoot, no need to cover them well. But, still need to play that way to be prepared when it gets much tougher.

Take care of business type win tonight for the Hoyas. As was the case with the American game, a lot to be encouraged by but still some things that are concerning and need to be addressed before we step up in weight class next week.
Liked Dante's balance between facilitating and attacking tonight. It's a delicate balance but felt like he was more in control in this game with his decision making. Beard also gave good minutes, and aside from the backcourt TO late in the game, did some good things. Funny to hear on this board that it's got to be an either/or at PG with this tandem; we are going to need both to play pivotal roles this season in order to succeed.
A lot will be made of Rice's barrage from outside, and glad to see he finally got it going from deep. But I think he is our poorest defender by far and you can bet that with the OOC tape accumulating on him, BE coaches are going to see that he's the guy to attack in our starting lineup. Like his awareness when the play is in his vicinity (i.e. a nice box-out, active hands to get some deflections), but it seems like the vast majority of the time, he is either trailing by a wide margin while chasing his man or caught out of position. Need to see a more consistent effort out of him on the defensive end.
2nd game in a row I was impressed with Carey's ability to drive to the hole. Looks a lot more comfortable this year doing it. Also seems to be willing to take and make those "lightly contested" shots that he was unwilling/unable to do last year. If he's to be one of those legit top 3 offense options, this is key.
Really liked the press. Played a big part in blowing the game open to a comfortable margin when we came out of a timeout with it and Siena was unprepared to handle it. We have several guys who can apply on the ball pressure without fouling now, and that's a nice asset to have.
Really disliked the overhelping. New set of players, improved athleticism across the board, same scheme and result. Didn't think tonight was a matter of guys not knowing where they were supposed to be, but simply doing what they were told. We were very fortunate Siena missed as many open 3s in the second half as they did. Will be interesting to see if it takes another half season like it did last year for the staff to make an adjustment.
Can't help but wonder how our team would look if we swapped a Tim/Malcolm for Stormo on Siena. Guy is completely unathletic, but active, skilled and efficient. Accumulating big men projects is fine, but sometimes you wish one of the projects would get finished once in awhile. Much tougher game tonight for Ryan, but thought he competed and unlike the other two bigs you can clearly see it's simply youth working against him.
It will be fun to see the moment when the game slows down enough for Riley. It's just too fast for him at this point. Confident though, that he will get there at some point. Keep getting him minutes if/when possible.
Hoping for a strong week of practice so we can be competitive on Turkey Day.

Won some $ on the Hoyas as I had the line much higher but feel I got pretty lucky. We may have been worse on D tonight that we were vs Dartmouth. Siena just could not hit an open 3 to save their life. I would put it up there with the worse shooting performances I have even seen in college relative to the shots taken. We shot 67% from 3 and they shot 28%. You could easily argue it should have been the other way around. Kaiden, Carey and Harris were really good tonight on offense and everyone else was pretty bad. It's good to get the easy win and hopefully gets some confidence for Kaiden and Dante but other than that not much to be encouraged about from this one.

Young team, sure; but we will get drummed in Big East play if it doesn’t improve. TBH, I thought Siena rushed a lot of their 3s, especially in the second half. A few times we pressed, they broke it and then they fired up a too quick 3 with no rebounders underneath. Those I can live with. The ones I dislike are when we play solid D for 20+ seconds, and then a defender comes over to help out somebody who doesn't look like they need help. Gotta trust your teammates in that situation and stick with your man, and that's what I've seen too much of over the past few years. I think overall this teams shows promise of being a MUCH better defensive team than they have been in the recent past. Have to fix the unnecessary help outs and then the "oops, I should have been there so let me fly by 2 seconds too late" situations -- if you mess up and don't stay with your man, at least get under for a possible rebound, instead of taking yourself out of the play by attempting a way-too-late block.

Solid win - Carey looked great, Rice red hot, and Harris played well (much more under control). The defense against the Siena big guy is concerning.

Criticisms are pretty much dead on what Patrick said in post game interview and things he has been working at getting these guys to understand. But, also pretty much what he was saying on the sideline during the game. Good overview.

Overall: Kaiden, all is forgiven. Awful defense of the three. Terrible defensive rebounding. Game ball to Carey. Dante has better handle than Beard. Mohammed much less skilled than I anticipated. Center is team weak spot.

Glad you won some bucks, I can't bet because I know id lose it all to Dartmouth or less to Colorado. I feel like your entire post boils down to that the better shooting team won. As is often the truth in CBB. Do you think the scheme got the guys shots or Rice was just on fire? On the other hand, do you think our defensive scheme of funneling the ball to wing shooters (theoretically worse shooters in college) pays off?

A W is a W at the end of the year. Glad Pat got some time to tinker, Rice found his shooting, and everyone got some mojo back. Still a lot to work on and we still don't have the full picture after 3 games.
On to Thursday. Relax, do some school work, and enjoy the few days out west. The Hilltop can be windy and harsh through the fall and early winter but focus on the court.
