Is there an NCAA deadline when seniors who have otherwise used up their eligibility must declare that they are returning?

Everyone realizes the eligibility is not just for seniors right? As I understand it, everyone basically got a free year this year, ie Harris can be here 4 more years.

I would say some have made up their mind already, but certainly before May 1st.

I was just stating that fact as I feel like it hasn’t been explained that well.

It's not a decision the player alone can make. Does the coach want them back considering the other current and incoming players? And, is the university willing to pick up the costs of additional scholarships?

How’s that work with the 13 scholarships in future years? I’d assumed that we had to stay at 13 or under except for seniors who returned next year. But what about future years? If say our whole current frosh class stayed for a 5th year, would that mean we’d have 5 scholarships unavailable for that years class or could we go to 18? Either way seems strange.

It was a good point, broadcasters have mentioned seniors getting the extra year a number of times this season but not everybody else.

I'd like Carey n Bile back. Think Blair should stay...Pickett deserves a chance to earn a living. Blair n Pickett stayed loyal and were awarded being Big East Champs. A great way to end. Hoyas!

Tbh I’d take any of the four back. All four contributed in their own way. Vet experience will be key if the team is to be successful next year.

As I mentioned a few posts ago, there is a specific rule that for the 21-22 season any players that are using their 4th year of eligibility in the 20-21 season can come back to their current team and not count against the scholarship limit during their 5th year of eligibility. There is no guarantee, and people believe it's unlikely, that this rule will be extended to future seasons past 21-22. This is why it's important to think of this season essentially not counting against eligibility for everyone and the exception only being for 21-22. Below is a breakdown of how I understand the rules based on the NCAA decisions and supplemental articles: -Current athletes will now have 6 years to complete 5 years of eligibility -Athletes opting to use their final year of eligibility in the 21-22 season with their current team will not count against the scholarship limit of 13 -Athletes opting to use their final year of eligibility in the 21-22 season with a different team will count against the scholarship limit of 13 -There is no guarantee that athletes will not count against the scholarship limit during their 5th year of eligibility in future seasons past 21-22 Pulling my post from earlier in the week on the topic of eligibility and scholarship limits.

Hard to get too confident in these pronouncements right now but at least it shows he's considering it. Would be great to have him back.

A lot will depend on what offers they all can get overseas and also how badly covid ravaged overseas teams finances if they can take on players, so it is def all TBD atm

I feel like Carey and Bile would be more important to have back next season than Pickett and Blair, just in terms of need and fit.

Would love Carey back!!!! Jamarko from what I hear is gone and I am happy he will start getting paid for his craft. Jamorko explicitly said in an interview the Xavier game was his last home game. He made the tourney so he checked that box off, and despite yesterday's performance he ultimately went off on a high note. I don't see Blair coming back either, he might not have NBA upside like Pickett but he's still a pro and the same logic applies to him. Would love to have him back of course but that's not the player I'm holding my breath for. The bigger question IMO is Bile. He only has one year of high major basketball under his belt, so an additional year would be useful for him to further develop and show what he can do before he turns pro. The 4 is a pressing need for us next year, and we really need someone that can rebound to fill some of Pickett's production. Aminu will help but I'd feel a lot better with Bile's rebounding and shooting.

Still wondering how we’re gonna clear room since we’re apparently one over the scholarship limit as things stand right now.

Hard to get too confident in these pronouncements right now but at least it shows he's considering it. Would be great to have him back. Reading between the lines he’s a 3pt specialist who is saying he wants to win defensive player of the year. This means he knows that if he wants to make it to the next level he has to work on his defense and he’s realistic that he needs to work on that for one more if not two more years at Georgetown. So I’m almost certain that he will be back.
