What is Coach Crouch's role in recruiting? Local guy. Coached in the local scene for years. He's doing great, but he's just getting started and tbh you should have two DMV centric recruiters. Every time Georgetown has been really good it's had a roster full of local kids.

If you want an example of how this can work, even at a place with a lot less history and name cache than Georgetown basketball, look at Mike Locksley at Maryland.
Yes, he's not a good head coach at all. But he's a recruiting ace, particularly in the DC area. He could get DC kids wherever he was: New Mexico, Illinois, Alabama. And now that he's at UMD, he's pulling in some serious talent from the WCAC and MIAA.
It's not THAT hard to find an asst who is our version of Locksley.

What is Coach Crouch's role in recruiting? Local guy. Coached in the local scene for years. In terms of his role, as a special assistant he's allowed to be on recruiting calls with the head coach or recruiting assistants and he's allowed to respond to recruits that reach out to him directly. He's not allowed to initiate contact with recruits.

Locks has been respected for years as a recruiter.
There was also Larry Johnson at Penn State getting local DMV football talent.
The question becomes who is that equivalent on college basketball? The DC/Baltimore/Northern Virginia version of Kirby.

Who did he help land at G-town? And during his stint at Maryland? LJ Peak, Marcus Derrickson, Dajuan Summers, Henry Sims, Mitchell twins etc. On the net it says Austin and Chris but that's before I was really into this stuff so maybe someone who was around then can confirm or deny. Either way he's well respected up and down the east coast, and a constant fixture on the top 20 lists for assistant coaches before he got the gig at Morgan St. Yes, as I recall he was the lead for Austin, Chris and Jason Clark, who were the 3 big WCAC fish that we landed in the early JT3 years. He also recruited Chris Braswell from Dematha who was a big get at the time he committed--committed early and was a Top 50 player in his class at the time. He ultimately had academic issues that led to a decommitment and went on to play at Charlotte. I don't recall if Broadus helped get Jessie Sapp from National Christian but it seems likely. Once Broadus left for his head coaching job we brought in Cox to being our local recruiting ace, but that was right around the time that we had a falling out with DC Assault (the organization that Cox was connected to), which was followed by DC Assault falling apart completely, and the quality of our local recruits went down a bit. Cox pulled Jordan Goodman who was something of a lower tier DCA guy who never made it to campus, while a lot of the top DCA guys like Mike Beasley, Wally Judge and Rodney McGruder were funneled to another DCA henchman, Dalonte Hill, who Bob Huggins had hired at K-State. We were still able to pull some decent local talent in those years, especially those without strong AAU affiliations like Markell Starks and Mikael Hopkins. But JTIII moved away from a strong local focus on recruiting, bringing in more kids like Nate Lubick from Massachusetts, Hollis Thompson from SoCal, Tyler Adams from MS, Jabril from Philly, DSR from Indy, Brad Hayes from Florida and of course Otto. I think when Broadus was rehired we had more local presence again, but for a mix of reasons we weren't quite as big of a factor locally in his second stint.

What about former Hoya players?
Back in the day, former Hoya Steve Martin helped with JT2's New Orleans connection.
John Jacques helped recruit Boubacar Aw.
Dwayne Bryant was the coach of Georgetown Prep when Hibbert was playing at the school.
Touomou coached Tim, correct?
Do we have that kind of assistance in the local area from former players?

Did his teams he recruited for go to the Final Four or win an NCAA?
How did Maryland do when Hill was there?

Hill landed top tier DC area kids at Kansas State when that was an absolute nothing program, and then didn't last long at Maryland, so it's hard to compare. Got Alex Len and Roddy Peters when he was at UMD. Obviously this was all facilitated by his involvement in what was effectively a large criminal organization, but still, just an example.

Has enough time passed to give Kevin Broadus the Assistant Head Coach job? In my mind that guy can not only flat out recruit but coach ... and knows the area. The incredible supernova of a disaster at Stony Brook derailed him ... but at some point time heals all, right?

So much time has passed, in fact, that he was hired back by Georgetown for a few years already, then took an assistant job at Maryland, and is now the head coach at Morgan State. So yes, it's safe to say that the Binghamton (not Stony Brook) stuff has been healed, but I don't think he'll be back as an assistant any time soon

Yes, the WCAC is a great conference, maybe the premier basketball conference center in the country. It has been that way for decades. If Georgetown starts winning consistently maybe recruits will take a harder look at the Hoyas. I don't think Georgetown has had great success with the WCAC even at its best. The best of the WCAC have consistently had opportunities to play at major D-1 colleges across the US, especially UNC, Duke, Syracuse and Notre Dame. In short, until we revive our winning tradition, coming to Georgetown will, in my opinion, be a hard sell. No doubt that wining more games on a consistent basis would make it easier to attract more kids from the WCAC, but some of these kids are going to other programs that are not really winning either. Looks at Xavier Johnson going to a Pitt program that has not had much success, or Tabbs going to BC who has not been good lately or the kids going to Vanderbilt. I agree that in order to get the best WCAC kids you need to win more, but I think you should be able to get the next level WCAC kids to come and if they have a great experience, and help the program win, then getting those really high level kids becomes much easier. You need to start somewhere to begin bringing these kids into the program. Start looking at WDC, class '23 Armani Hansberry SJC now, PF
