Reading the boards over on Maryland's 247 page, this one sounds like it's all but done. Unofficial this past weekend and apparently taking an OV again today. Their people are extremely confident, 2 insiders put up crystal balls. Huge bummer.

I expect someone like Lamothe expects to come in and play right away, and Maryland's situation for that next season is far better than Georgetown's. Unless guys transfer, Dante, Primo and Anglin will all still be around next year, and it sounds like our main target is the 5-star Marvel Allen kid (and he has a big time relationship with Nickelberry). When Georgetown had Allen and Lamothe on visit on the same weekend a few weeks ago, it seemed a bit odd. There just isn't room for both of them. Heck, there's barely enough room for one of them. But obviously, you don't turn down interest in a 5-star who is coming to visit your campus, who would likely be a big upgrade to Dante and Primo (no disrespect to either of them).

But good lord, how any guard after having watched a Kevin Willard coached team and their offensive scheme say “sign me up for that” floors me. He literally runs nothing.

Class of 2022 combo guard Jahnathan Lamothe is focusing on four schools as he nears a decision. Lamothe will choose between Georgetown, Penn State, UCF, and Maryland. Georgetown: “Our relationship is going well, we had that relationship since probably my 15u summer when they offered me. Coach Ewing was there a lot this year a long with his assistants. I went up for an official maybe a month ago and it was nice up there and I see their rebuilding.” “I’m Just looking at the development piece from each school because I want to get to my ultimate goal of getting to the NBA,” he said.” “I’m also looking at how their recruiting, how I would come in and play, the family atmosphere, and the vibe from the coaching staff. Now that I’m down to a few schools it’s easier to weed out everything.” 247sports.com/Article/Basketball-recruiting-Jahnathan-Lamothe-Georgetown-Penn-State-UCF-Maryland-187993497/

Anyone following his play the last year or so will tell you this isn’t a big loss. Kid has really struggled with consistency but has occasionally flashed brilliance. Not the guy you sweat missing out on yet, though he will probably be a good player in the near future.

He’s a good all around player, not great in any one area. He’s not an instant impact guy but he’s a high major player and that’s better than what we’ve been bringing in.

He is not on the same level of prospect as Murray or Aminu and I would certainly give the edge to Anglin at the moment, we’ve certainly been able to bring in guys better than him in recent history.

Wasn’t likely that you would get both Lamothe and Marvel Allen in the same class, so this is OK. I think Lamothe will be a good college player, but staff seems to rate Allen better, which I agree with.

Gotta love when the multi page thread listing all of the times the staff went to see him gets to the "we didn't want him anyway" stage.

We’ll definitely be better off with whatever MEAC or Big South guy transfers in a couple years.
