This win vs SMU was a revenge for last year's loss, but also for the uncomfortable close win vs SMU in the 1984 NCAA.

Everyone knows the reasons the referees were decent given these games were on the road was because they all saw what happens when Ewing gets mad at the Garden.

Live in Dallas but am not DFW I don’t get to see the Hoyas play in person very often but did get to Stillwater and to SMU. It was great fun in person except no tv to throw things at Team is tall and very athletic. Much different from what Ive read on here. SMU fans were very impressed with our D. We need to schedule more games vs teams in the Southwest

This win vs SMU was a revenge for last year's loss, but also for the uncomfortable close win vs SMU in the 1984 NCAA. 37-36 First Round win. Ewing led Hoyas with 10. We were that close to never having the opportunity to win the whole thing. You didn't get all the games on TV at that time so getting updates was torture. Where have you gone, Jon Koncak?

The recipient of the ball bop, Kendric Davis, is from Houston. Alexander is from Louisiana. More likely than not their paths crossed before.

IRRC, Patrick had the winning points on a tip-in of a missed free throw. Hence why he screams REBOUND after every missed shot.

The problem was never Blair per se, it was the fact Ewing was trying to play 11 guys. I think most posters on the board saw that that would never work, and it didn't. All 11 were capable of being solid contributors, but guys need minutes, and not just minutes but touches to get into a rhythm, get their confidence going, etc. When Ewing was playing 11 guys it was hard for anyone outside of Yurt and JA to do much as those were the only two guys that didn't have to worry about their minutes and touches. The irony is that Ewing apparently recognized this himself as he's made numerous statements about how guys are playing better cus their more freer and relaxed since they don't have to always look over their shoulder so much like when he was playing 11. So it's curious he wouldn't have shortened the rotation much sooner. Regardless, Josh and JA made the decision for him, and the team is now much better off as a result. The guards in particular have made the biggest jump. Allen was worthless while JA was here, now he's everything I wish JA could've been. Mac looks like a completely different player. Shooting better, making better decisions, etc. Mosely is more involved in the offense and finally providing some scoring. And Blair is finally able to get enough minutes and touches coming off the bench that he can be a legit factor with his 3 point shooting. I'm hoping Myron can try to mold his game a little more off Josh from last year. The three he took was beyond bad, as was whatever that dribble move was he tried at the top of the key. It's clear shooting and ball handling are not his strong points. That said, I think his rebounding along with Galen's are the best on the team outside of Yurt, I also think he's a very good defender. If he could take on that Josh role of just focusing on rebounding, playing defense, and getting easy baskets near the rim, he could become a really valuable player. Uh, you do realize is has been really early preseason and not only Ewing, but pretty much every coach puts pretty much every player they would need in early games, particularly if the games aren't that tough. They work to get different line-ups run time and get new players worked into the system, as mid-season or late Spring is far too late to do that. Myron hasn't found his rhythm for his jump shot. His shot seems to need more arc as it is a line drive, no room for error. I think he has demonstrated he can handle the ball. He's bringing the ball up on the break when we are pressed. He has to find the right pace. I think his offense will catch up with his defense as time goes on.

We are up to 39th in the Sagarin rankings with a SOS of 19, 3rd as a team with three losses and 6th in the BE. This is why a strong schedule is so important, and why we need to do the same thing going forward. With our Strength of Schedule, if we can beat Syracuse, I am pretty confident 9-9 in the Big East will get us to the tournament. Given the strength of the Big East, 9 wins is not a foregone conclusion, but it's a great position to be in where you can likely make the tournament without having to be perfect.

I was fighting the same anxiety..and it is like battered spouse 's syndrome. We had lots of lapses actually (think Yurt's boneheaded foul at first half buzzer and some generally dreadful long rebounding). But that's probably a good thing, because it means we left some meat on the table in a 20-point road beatdown. Can't really get over what a resounding indictment these last two games have been for Akinjo... and how affirming they have been for Pat and Allen. Our ceiling is probably a little lower; but our basement is exponentially higher. Good to see Blair finally make some shots. I agree with a lot of things you said above except for the team's ceiling being lower. I absolutely think this team's ceiling is way higher now. It's much harder to defend seven players then it was to defend two or three players (in a good game). Plus team chemistry has obviously improved which absolutely raises the ceiling. You see the guys celebrating with Blair last night. Let's face facts, Blair had been awful before last night. Once he got going the entire team (in true NBA style offense) was trying to get him the ball. I just don't think that happens minus the change at lead guard. You can't put a value on team chemistry and the enjoyment the team has now. That's fun basketball. I bet you the players can't wait to get back on the court and put in work...

I'm sure I have posted this before, but will do it again. I was in New Jersey visiting my junior/senior year roommate and his family, and had to return to Los Angeles the day of the game. I saw the end of the first half on TV at Newark Airport, and then had to board the plane. I proceeded to go through roughly 5 1/2 hours of torture. Weren't we losing something like 24-16 at the half? I'm not sure how I managed to avoid vomiting on the flight. My parents picked me up at LAX. The first words my dad said when he saw me were "Was Georgetown lucky." He then laid the details on me.

SMU was led by Jon Koncak, a 7-footer who went 5th in the ‘85 NBA draft. I believe I saw that game in Copley lounge my freshman year.
