We can score inside and outside and we can dribble drive to the rack, it's the rebounding that continues to be a problem. Still time to improve.

One of the small things the Allen does that impresses me is how he doesn’t pick up his dribble. Always keeps the play going and doesn’t box himself in. Great call out. Manages to inch forward even when being pressured, uses a hesitation and keeps his head up all the while.

Really nice win. From a fan perspective, it was really nice to get an early lead and sustain it. Some thoughts:
(1) Terrell Allen is a really good point guard. He's not selfish, he sets other guys up, he doesn't turn it over. In other words, he does exactly what a point guard is supposed to do. In these 2 games, he's clearly been a better point guard than Akinjo. Allen's O rating pre-transfers was 68, and now it's up to 99 in only two games.
(2) The ball motion continues to be fantastic compared to what it was before the transfers. The ball isn't stagnant, and it leads to a lot more open shots. Blair came up huge tonight, but he could never have done it without getting those open shots that were the result of ball movement. That simply wasn't happening with Akinjo in there.
(3) This game was only 69 possessions, and thus, a good bit slower than the pre-transfer games. As I've said a bunch of times already, the team in my mind operates better at a slightly lower pace because it allows them to look for open shooters and set up good shots, rather than quick ones. Again, not to dump on Akinjo, but he frequently took a ton of long twos and other bad shots.
(4) We took 27 threes. 27! Contrast that to the Duke game when we had only 16. Of course, you need to make the shots if you're going to take them, but we are making them.
(5) Basically, everyone was hugely efficient on the offensive end tonight except Alexander and Gardner. Yurtseven turned in a great night. And obviously, so did Blair.
(6) The biggest weakness in this game was defense. SMU scored 1.07 points per possession. We gave up a LOT of open threes where nobody was even remotely in the neighborhood of the open shooter. While I think the post-transfer offense is clearly much better, the post-transfer defense still shows a lot of the weaknesses we have shown all year. Allen clearly helps the defense, but there's still more work to be done.
(7) It's great seeing the guys seemingly having fun. Let's go beat Syracuse in a week.

Wish him the best but at this point it’s good riddance to Akinjo. Can’t help think what could have been with Josh in the lineup over Mosley though. Trying to convince myself he was part of the chemistry problem. Great win. Allen was tremendous

I too think about having LeBlanc. That said, if Picket is comfortable and is more confident knowing he'll get 30 minutes a game and doesn't have to look over his shoulder to see if Leblanc is on his way in....then I am fine with it. We look solid enough on defense and need all the offensive weapons we can out on the court.

Are people still cringing whenever Blair gets into the game? Maaaybe defer a bit to the coaches who see him every day in practice now?

Man, how many times have we been on the receiving end of the rain of threes?

That was fun. Very fun. These games are more fun when we win. Blair was excellent as were Mac and Allen. The team never slowed down and played pretty solid defense, except for that brief period in the early second. Everybody looked to be crashing the glass and the team played as a unit. Very good game, very good win. Also, Mac apparently had 7 assists this game which really shocks me. 26 assists on 34 made shots is very good. Go Hoyas!!!
Road underdog streak continues. SMU couldn't respond after the initial run, much like typical teams with cupcake schedules. Man, this was fun.

But it is very notable that we have gone from 67 going into the Oklahoma State game to 44. That's a huge jump for only 2 games. It just shows how much better we were the last two games.

Rebounding might be better if we had a true power forward on the team. Someone around 6’8” with muscle and aggression. Alexander and Gardner can both rebound though.

Why is Galen Alexander bopping the ball off the opponent's head at the last second? C'mon Yeah that was low-class. Not the Georgetown way. You don't know if Galen has a relationship off the court with that player. They could be tight friends. It didn't seem like the player was to worried about it...

Looks like redshirt years for them..which is great in terms of development. Only complaint, would have liked to see the walk-ons get some run. Cone on Coach Ewing...get it together!

This was an impressive road trip. Following up the Oklahoma State win with a commanding victory over SMU demonstrates that the team still has the talent to compete in the Big East. It's going to be interesting to see how McClung develops as the face of this team. That said, these also have been team victories. I am still concerned about the broader issues off the court, but I've been impressed by the resolve on the court in these last two games.

I don't think it's a coincidence how this team is playing. Akinjo has a lot of potential, but Allen is a million times better at running an offense and understanding the game. We have a bunch of decent shooters. Turns out, if they get the ball in their hands when they are open, they hit a bunch of shots. Who knew? Apparently the former PG didn't, no matter how many times the Coach Ewing told him.

The former PG just wanted his at the expense of the team. He couldn’t back it up either. The only way to hold Mac under 20 points is to not pass him the ball. Winning is fun.

What was really impressive was that the team started the game with a knockout 20-2 run to start the game. Game was essentially over by the first media timeout. I'm racking my brain to remember the last time the Hoyas did that in a true road game?

Whoa, Pop in the hospital according to Patrick post game comment? Pops hasn't been to a home game all season. Nor has Lori Michel. Praying for BIG COACH!

I have thought all season that if somehow TA got a shot to play minutes he would be the best PG we had on roster. The PG position is more about experience and marking the right choice, the unselfish choice. True PGs look for assists over points. He is the only Hoya with an elite 8 appearance, and it’s only fitting that the oldest and most experienced man on the roster controls the floor. We have stupid length and athleticism, and after tonight obvious shooting. With TA being the grown man driving the bus he might just get the final four game he was looking for. #HOYASAXA #WENOTME Pretty sure UCF lost to Duke in the 2nd round in last year’s tournament... Always one guy that has to ruin a good story with facts...
